Startlist - Leader - Gaizka GerekoechevarrÃa
Sprinter - Gorka Izagirre
Free - Aitor Valiente
Free - Mariano Fraga
Team - José Juan Leis

Stage 1
Today's stage should end in an uphill sprint, Izagirre and GC man GerekoechevarrÃa are our men for today.
There is no break today...
Ahead of the only KoM of the day we decide to send Fraga up the road, he wins it so he'll have the jersey tomorrow!
Fraga is brought back swiftly though with the only intermediate sprint of the day coming just after the climb, Izagirre tries to follow Brown (MTN Qubeka) but gets boxed in and loses the wheel, so he doesn't contest the sprint, Nikias Arndt (LKT) wins it from Brown and Ljungblad (Differdange)
With about 15 km to go we move towards the front and work with LKT to set up the sprint for Gorka and Gaizka.
Sprint pending Gorka takes Gaizka's wheel, who follows the favourite Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg.
The sprint is launched, can we take our first win...?!
No! Van Rensburg takes it. We left it too late before launching our sprint and couldn't make up the ground, Gaizka takes a good 3 place though and Gorka Izagirre takes 5th. We also go into the 2nd stage with the KoM jersey, so not a bad day! Here are the results and the GC;
Stage
1) Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg - MTN Qubeka - 3h59'01
2) Nikias Arndt - LKT Brandenburg - +0
3) Gaizka GerekoechevarrÃa - Xacobeo - +0
4) Stuart Shaw - Drapac - +0
5) Gorka Izagirre - Xacobeo - +0
6) Jani Tewelde Weldegaber - MTN - +0
7) Jonas Ljungblad - Differdange - +0
8) Morten Hoberg - Concordia - +0
9) Johan Coenen - Differdange - +0
10) Rens Te Stroet - Jo Piels - +0
GC
1) Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg - MTN - 3h59'01
2) Nikias Arndt - LKT - +2
3) Gaizka GerekoechevarrÃa - Xacobeo - +12
4) Aaron Brown - MTN - +16
5) Jonas Ljungblad - Differdange - +18
Ahead of tomorrow's hilly stage Gaizka is well placed at just 12 seconds down, and we hope to be in contention for the stage win tomorrow! |

Thanks, pretty pleased with the first stage in South Africa, Gorka's one of the better sprinters, and Gaizka one of the better climbers so we're hoping for a stage win and a top 3 on the GC, Van Rensburg will be hard to beat! |

Tour of South Africa
Stage 2
The first of 2 hilly stages in the Tour, today it's all about Gaizka.
Fraga attacks from the off, firstly to consolidate his lead in the KoM competition and to excuse ourselves from working on the front, to try put pressure on MTN.
He quickly gets 2 minutes, and it becomes clear that he's in for a long day in the saddle on his lonesome. Not that he minds, he doesn't have to waste more energy sprinting to the top of the climbs!
As Fraga takes the maximum points on offer for the first 3 climbs, his closest rival Humbert (LKT) decides to attack to try keep up in the KoM standings.
Eventually Humbert makes it across to Fraga just before the last categorised climb, he's the better climber too, so he's up against it on the final categorised climb.
Humbert proves to strong and takes the final categorised climb. But Fraga isn't too worried, he extended his lead nicely!
Now the last of the KoM climbs are over it's time to focus on Gaizka, who is looking to get one over on Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg, he tells us that he's not feeling too great today, but he's going to give it his best nonetheless!
The first of attacks from the favourites start with Coenen (Differdange), Shaw (Drapac) and Van Rensburg (Jacques(MTN), Gaizka doesn't want to go too soon, so lets Gorka cover the attack, as it is it was quickly neutralised.
With just 2km left the races starts to go uphill, Gaizka see's this as the perfect time to make his bid for victory, it definitely has Van Rensburg worried as he reacts immediately.
But, he fails to get the gap, which leaves him at the front of the group, so he's forced to launch the sprint, can he hold on?!
Nope, Van Rensburg takes his 2nd stage in as many days. Gaizka got caught out there on the front, his inexperience showing, but still takes 4th. He's disappointed, but equally as determined to put that right in the coming days.
Here are the results;
Stage
1) Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg - MTN - 4h11'40
2) Jacques Janse Van Rensburg - MTN - +0
3) Christofer Stevenson - Concordia - +0
4) Gaizka GerekoechevarrÃa - Xacobeo - +0
5) Johan Coenen - Differdange - +0
6) Sander Oostlander - Jo Piels - +0
7) Jason Christie - Differdange - +0
8) Jani Tewelde Weldegaber - MTN - +0
9) Meron Russom - MTN - +0
10) Pim De Beer - Jo Piels - +0
GC
1) Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg - MTN - 8h10'21
2) Nikias Arndt - LKT - +20
3) Jacques Janse Van Rensburg - MTN - +28
4) Gaizka GerekoechevarrÃa - Xacobeo - +32
5) Christofer Stevenson - Concordia - +32 |

Vuelta Ciclista a Andalucia
Stage 3
Finally a stage stage to our liking, it's nice and hilly but there are some very good riders at this race, so we'll do the best we can!
After many attacks from many riders finally one sticks and the break of the day is formed. Mads Christensen (Saxobank-Tinkoff Bank) is going to be very lonely today!
With 90 km to go a counter-attack is formed, with Sella (Androni), Belda (Burgos), Laverde (Columbia), Rosendo (Andalucia) and De la Fuente (Caja Rural), but the group is considered too dangerous and swiftly brought back.
With 40 to go another is formed, instigated again by Sella and followed by teammate Jackson Rodriguez they were joined by De la Fuente again and Tom Jelte Slagter (Rabobank) but again the peleton aren't keen on letting it go very far.
Mads Christensen is still over 2 minutes up the road with 10 km to go, and the peleton don't seem keen on chasing, Izagirre is feeling good, so gets Fresnedoso to the front to try bring Christensen back to a manageable distance.
And he does a brilliant job, as he pulls off Christensen only has about 20 seconds left.
There are a flurry of attacks on the final climb, but only 2 men were strong enough to get off the front, Rui Costa (Movistar) and Gasparotto (Astana) both got a good gap and look like they should fight it out for victory. Ion told me afterwards it was almost impossible for him and most others to get away, god knows he tried! Come the sprint there was a bit of a surprise as Costa managed to hold off a charging Gasparotto, he clearly had just enough in the tank, a great win for him!
Stage
1) Rui Costa - Movistar - 3h47'24
2) Enrico Gasparotto - Astana - +0
3) Oscar Freire - Katusha - +16
4) Eduard Vorganov - Katusha - +16
5) Dave Zabriskie - Garmin - +16
6) Juan Manuel Gárate - Rabobank - +16
7) David Arroyo - Movistar - +16
8) Luke Roberts - Saxobank - +16
9) Wilco Kelderman - Rabobank - +16
10) Giampaolo Caruso - Katusha - +16
30) Ion Izagirre - Xacobeo - +16
GC
1) Rui Costa - Movistar - 8h19'41
2) Enrico Gasparotto - Astana - +3
3) Dave Zabriskie - Garmin - +12
4) Oscar Freire - Katusha - +19
5) Luke Roberts - Saxobank - +23
26) Aiert Fresnedoso - Xacobeo - +50
**No more from me until tomorrow evening at the soonest, classes tomorrow morning then off to watch the start of the Paris-Bourges in my town! |

Vuelta a Andalucia
Stage 2
Another pretty uneventful day in the peleton, that ends in a bunch sprint with surprising results (Finish coming just after a cat 3);
1) José Joaquin Rojas - Movistar - 3h57'51
2) Eduard Vorganov - Katusha - +0
3) Andre Greipel - Lotto - +0
4) Mark Renshaw - Rabobank - +0
5) Enrico Gasparotto - Astana - +0
6) Oscar Freire - Katusha - +0
7) Mattia Gavazzi - Astana - +0
8) Jackson Rodriguez - Androni - +0
9) Tyler Farrar - Garmin - +0
10) Dmitri Muravyev - Astana - +0
12) Aiert Fresnedoso - Xacobeo - +0
Fresnedoso takes an unexpected and very pleasing 12th place on the stage, especially impressive considering the quality sprinters here!
Tour of South Africa
Stage 3
After a good rest day Gaizka is looking to do some damage today, he likes the look of the stage with the cat 2 just 12 km from the finish and a long downhill running he knows he'll be hard to catch if he gets a gap. Gorka for the sprint if Gaizka can't get away.
With no break thus far Gaizka decides to take advantage and goes for the intermediate sprint, and he takes it from Arndt! Those bonus seconds could prove really important in the outcome of the race.
After 70km and no attacks so far Ceballos decides enough is enough and puts in a big attack, he was hoping for some company but doesn't get it and finds himself all alone.
With 20km to go Poutsma (Jo Piels) attacks with Mortensen (Concordia) as Ceballos is reeled in, but they never get more than 20 seconds.
We knew Gaizka really wanted to have a go on this stage and was feeling good today, but with 12km to go disaster strikes as he clips wheels with the rider in front and crashes hard, he takes a while to get back to his feet, question is, can he get back into the peleton?
Gorka is the only one of our team to stay up in the peleton to as the others drop back to help Gaizka, but Gorka is unable to take the sprint, Shaw wins it and Drapac get the 1-2, a good day for them...
...But not for us as Gaizka rolls in 1'35 later, battered and bruised, he is extremely disappointed as he really wanted to go for this stage.
Stage
1) Stuart Shaw - Drapac - 4h14'48
2) Rhys Pollock - Drapac - +0
3) Reinardt J.V. Rensburg - MTN - +0
4) Jani Tewelde Weldegaber - MTN - +0
5) Jonas Ljungblad - Differdange - +0
6) Gorka Izagirre - Xacobeo - +0
7) Aaron Brown - MTN - +0
8) Johan Coenen - Differdange - +0
9) Nikias Arndt - LKT - +0
10) Schiewer - LKT - +0
GC
1) Reinardt J.V. Rensburg - MTN - 12h25'01
2) Nikias Arndt - LKT - +24
3) Stuart Shaw - Drapac - +28
4) Rhys Pollock - Drapac - +36
5) Aaron Brown - MTN - +44
6) Gorka Izagirre - Xacobeo - +46
Gaizka is now 2 minutes and 9 seconds down on Van Rensburg. |

Vuelta a Andalucia
5th and Final Stage
Another hilly affair, we're going to try for a top 10 today, with the calibre of riders here that's the best we can hope for!
The break of the day was formed very quickly, with Ferrari (Caja Rural), Mancuso (Androni), Verona (Burgos), Bak (Lotto), Roldan (Andalucia), Lund (Saxobank) and Laverde (Columbia) in it.
On the final categorised climb Fresnedoso comes to the front to set a hard pace, he's been a great team mate for Ion all week!
However many of those dropped come back on the descent and we find ourselves in a 70 man peleton for the finale, Ion has kept well hidden and feels pretty good, so we're hopeful.
With the break still 1'30 minutes ahead and only 3km left and the course going back uphill, Ion decides it's now or never, so he attacks straight away, and even gets a nice little gap!
But he is caught by the onrushing peleton and a super strong Costa flies past to take his 2nd stage and secure the GC.

1) Rui Costa - Movistar
