Continental Career
rip
Just finished my second season, my first season in the PT and didn't do too badly. Only reached 2/5 of my goals, and this was the effect on my budget...

Last season

Budget 3.5m
Transfer 1.4m
Salary 140k

Upcoming season

Budget 4m
Transfer 1.6m
Salary 160k

Didn't go up too much Sad

Not too bad RIP. Do you get different trainers options each year? I am in August of my first season and I have two mythical trainers, one that specializes in sprints the other classics. THe other mythical trainers available do not have and specialization. I was hoping there would be new trainers after the each season.

So far there are no new mythical trainers in my game. Only 7 in Total in fact, and that is how many there were when I started this career. I don't know if that changes or not either.

I have never seen a trainer with a specialization in Free Agency. I do believe that new staff become available if their contracts are not renewed with their current clubs.

You can only see if a trainer has a specialisation once you've hired them and only mythical trainers can have a specialisation. There are only 2 ways you can tell if a trainer has a specialisation before they're hired.

1. Hire a mythical trainer and if he has a specialisation make a note of his name. (The same mythical trainers always have the same specialisations).

2. If you can, edit the database and look at which trainers have which specialisation (much quicker).Wink

I checked the DB list you suggested and it appears that there were numerous trainers who had a specialty but I am assuming they all probably start out on teams because I have never seen any of them available in the new staff hiring pool.

When starting a new career, you're not guarenteed any specialised trainers will be in the available staff pool. However, on average, you do get one or two of them.

If you restart a career a few times you'll find some in the end. I've spent a good hour restarting a career in order to get the "perfect" combination (I'm a bit anal like that Shockops: )

Remember, their specialisation can only be seen once you've hired them.

In one career I has Greg Lemond as my trainer! Needless to say I cut him immediately!!!

I had to restart another season last night. I decided to purchase a lot of equipment during the month of September and did not realize that I had spent all of my budget. Well, I experienced the concept of bankruptcy in the month of October. C'est dommage!!

It's a shame too. I met (4) of my goals and was the #1 ranked CT team.

Keep us updated on your career even if you restart. You have made some great posts that have helped me with game strategy, etc plus it is interesting to see what direction you go with your teams.

Same problem here, didn't get the sponsor budget soon enough and didn't make it with the biggest loan either.

Is there any way around this, which program can I use to change my budget? I tried PCMSave and my saved .db-file, but it didn't work, I didn't even find the negative budget number

PCMSave is for PCM06, so don't use that. Instead, use Hannes Converter 2.0. You can read here what to edit: https://www.pcmdaily.com/forum/viewthr...&pid=55618

I am in mid-August during the 2007 season for Team Slipstream. I have met 2 of my four goals with only a top 3 in the US ITT needed. I have only entered two UCI races to date. I got smoked in Paris-Robaix but did manage a 2nd place GC finish with Medici in the Tour de Suisse. I am currently the number 1 ranked Continental team with three teams on my heels within 200 points. Barloworld would be number 1 if they did not sign up for every UCI tour event.

I have not had much luck signing free agents. Many of the unsigned young riders with potential 7 decided to sign with other Continental teams. I am going to be interested to see if they signed for less or equal money with those teams. I mean why not sign with me, who is sure to be promoted to the Pro Tour next year.

One strategy could be to intentionally NOT get promoted to the Pro Tour next year. Give yourself one more year to develop talent before getting sent up to the Big Show and not being able to make your sponsor goals and potentially getting fired.

Keep us updated!

I did think about that. If I could get some free agents to sign for me then I would highly consider it. But no established rider wants to sign with a Continental Team. I am hoping to sign a few decent Pros to my roster next year. Hopefully with those Pros it will prevent me from getting relegated. Right now I am looking at Zabriskie, Millar, Backstedt and Danielson (gonna unite the "real life" Slipstream team). I don't want Dean. But I am hoping to steal one or two other Pros away from other teams as well.

The young squad members are looking good Ulissi and Nolf have progressed to 72 overall both with 72 in cobbles. Tolleson is giving good results and Phinney is progressing steadily. The real surprise is Donald and Peterson. Both have done wonders as climbers in support. Donald has even been a decent TT. I got excepted into my third UCI event the Deustchland Tour. I have applied for three events and got accepted to all three.

I am a bit worried though because most of my good riders are over or approaching 50 days of racing. So if I use them then I will not get good results for the rest of the season but if I do not then I will not take advantage of the larger purses of a UCI event. And I really need the money. I am on pace to finish the season with a balance of 20, 000 Euros (or in my mind - dollars).

you cans sign pretty much any one if you have the money after October 25th, for example I (with Slipstream) signed:
Levi
Dave Z
Brad McGee
Steegmans

As for Pro Tour events, use them to gain experience for guys like Phinney, Peterson, and Donald. I was able to get Phinney to 72 in MO and TT by the end of the first season by getting him to exp level 4. The benifit of experience in Pro Tour races is for level 3 growth.

Great point, dave. I forgot to mention that that is the only reason why I signed up for the Tour of Germany. I wanted to get those guys with Level 3 some additional experience (not to mention I needed some money)
