January 12th
Hello and Welcome
Hi,
This my first blog of the season. As you can see my calendar consists mostly of UK races, and of those mostly Tour Series Events. These will be a great chance to test myself in a professional peloton. The whole season will be about securing my contract for 2013, and getting into the ToB squad if possible.
The first time i met the rest of the squad was New Years Eve. We all went out to Ministry of Sound in London to ring in 2012. It was a great night. Good music, good drink, good dancing, great fun. Lee Davis may be 41 but he still got moves. As does the Ladies Team
The whole squad will be going on a training camp to Portugal at the start of March for 2 weeks. A few riders will be of to New Zealand first for a race. I wont be one of them. I actually wont be doing any cycling in January at all, as i am using the time to finish off my A Levels early so i can focus on my racing later in the year.
So until then thats all i have.
Karl
P.S. I almost forgot, i will be doing a publicity piece for Cycling Weekly. Just a simple interview and profile. So that will go out from our camp in Portugal. So any questions can be passed on to them.

March 20th
Cycling Weekly Piece
CW; What are your main strengths?
KH; I am strong and produce a fair amount of power so flat and cobbles i guess. I have a decent kick so a small sprint win is possible. My main point is my decent, so i hope to use it.
CW; What are Node4 Giordana aiming for in this season?
KH; We, as a team, want to be the best of the Conti Brits. If we could beat UK Youth,Raleigh, Sigma Sport and Rapha we will be very happy. Node4 would love a ToB stage so that's our ultimate goal.
CW; Do you think you'll ride for Sweden at some point?
KH; Haha, maybe. I like having the dual nationality, and i like the ability to switch if i want. Will i? not for now, but its never going to be out of the question.
CW; How is the camp going?
KH; The camp is great. I love being on a bike. Everyone is buzzing and we cant wait for the season to begin proper. We also took a day to visit Lisbon and another for Porto so its not just cycling.
SweatyViking; Are the rumours that you and Lucy Garner are roomates at the training camp true?
KH; I can safely say we are not sharing a room. There is a strict policy stating we cant switch roommates. The question should be do i wish we were, and that is something i'll keep to myself. But, as the youngest, we do get on well.
Even on the days out we were still on bikes

New Zealand Cycle Classic
It was only a 6 man team, lead by Rogers.
Rogers and Cronshaw both got a top20.
Davis got in one BOTD.
Otherwise nothing of note.
Clancy came away with 3 wins and the GC.

March 21st
"Its my First Time", "Nervous?", "No, i've been Nervous Lots of Times"
I sit here in my hotel room. The sun sets over the sea. Its a chill evening. Its supposed to rain tomorrow...
So its my first race as a professional. Wow, thats a scary thought. 2 months ago i was sitting my A levels and now i'm about to go head to head with the likes of Eeckhout, Downing, Sabido and more...
I'm a long way from home. I miss it right now. I wish i could have my dad here to give me some advice and encouragement. The other guys can sense i'm uneasy. They keep trying to cheer me up but it's not working.
We had our planning meeting earlier. All i have to do tomorrow is ride in the peloton and get used to the speed and behavior. Its up to the other guys to make the racing.
The Ladies team move back to the UK tomorrow as well. Their season wont begin until May with us, but they will be riding for GB in a new Nations division around France and northern Europe.
Writing this blog is helping actually.
I only have two goals for tomorrow. Dont fall over, dont get dropped. I can build from there.
Now, i should get some sleep, but i'm meeting up with Lucy, Harriet, Sarah and Philip for some drinks in the Hotel bar.
Wish me luck! (with the racing)
Karl

Volta ao Alentejo
My first race. Williams will be our leader, along with Lavery. Clarke, Bialoblocki, Moss and Sampson will also be in attendance.
Stage 1
Clarke tried to get into the early move, but none of them succeeded. However he did lead over the days first KoM point.
The rain did come so it was going to be a tricky day. There were a few crashed throughout the day, in the end 30+ riders lost time.
The BOTD was Williams, Branaa(BUR), Tanguy(UKY), van Coppernolle(JVC) and Powers(JBC). They built an advantage of 4'10.
Williams took KoM 2 and 3, so he would lead that competition.
The break was caught with 11km to go.
I was still there, and was looking after Lavery, trying to get him forward.
I did so, but too late to contest the sprint fully.
Endura lead out well for Downing, but Bagdonas beat him to the line. Von Hoff rounded out the podium.
Lavery came in 14th, not too bad. I came in 41st without losing any time.
Williams made a trip to the podium to collect his KoM jersey.
All-in-all it was a great day for us. I stayed upright and got involved in the leadout, sort of. Williams is on great form, and we hope he can keep it up. Lavery in the top15 was a bonus.
Stage 2
Williams was again in the BOTD, along with Wesemann(MTN), Weber(DIF), Sousa(EFP) and Hansen(CWO).
Williams extended his KoM lead.
The break defied the peloton to take the stage as well.
Sousa won, but Williams took a fantastic second!!!! will Wesemann third.
The peloton rolled in 38" later, and yes i was still there.
Williams now holds the GC and KoM leads!!!!! And Node4 Giordana is the Best Team!!!
Williams is the man!!! No idea if we can hold the GC but we are damn well going to try it!!!
Stage 3
Nothing of note today. We all rode to keep Williams in the lead.
The final sprint was won by Downing, ahead of Bagdonas and Van Hoff.
Still to come;
Stage 4 - Node4 Giordana winning a GC on the Continent???
To be Continued....
