I managed to wear the pink jersey in Denmark with Lars Bak yesterday.
In the prologue, he only lost 15" to Froome (who surprisingly won) so I managed to get him in the breakaway two times and win two intermediate sprints by attacking 3km in advance, -20" seconds.
If Sagan (who won the first stage in the sprint and was wearing pink then) didn't finish top 3, Bak would be first in the GC 2" ahead of Sagan. I won the stage with Greipel, Sagan finished fourth, Bak got pink and Greipel got red.
Of course, Bak lost the pink jersey in the next stage since it was a TTT, but still, he stood on the stage in his home country with the leader's jersey of a GT.

Coming from behind with Chris Horner to take the Vuelta on stage 20, by beating Samuel Sanchéz... That left me pretty delighted!

No, I'm not. It was the World Championships of 2012 with Slagter clearly not being one of the favourites, but due to his really good condition and a bad Dutch team, he was my main man anyway. I tried to save a lot of energy until Hushovd attacked in the finale, followed by Breschel, Ballan, Flecha and Bennati. Much to my surprise, Slagter could easily follow them, but the group got reeled back in. He still had some energy left though, so with an all-or-nothing attack, Slagter managed to surprise the sprinters and could just hold off Matthews and Degenkolb. I think the other teams were counting on their sprinters too much on a hilly course and I do realise that I will probably never pull off a stunt like this again... |

Just wanted to share a story from my career last night. I lost the stage but I was impressed with the AI so it made me happy.
I was in the Tour Down Under with my custom team led by Carlos Betancur. Betancur took the GC lead on the first hilly stage so I was just looking to preserve it in the 2nd hilly stage. My best helper got injured early on in the stage and had to abandon. This left Betancur to do most of the work on the final hills and he ended up getting beat out by Tom Slagter of Rabobank.
This left Betancur 2nd in GC, 1" behind Slagter with only a short flat stage remaining. I decided to gamble going into the final stage. My plan was to attack with 4-5 riders and get Betancur the first intermediate sprint and the 3" time bonus to regain the GC lead. However, I wasn't able to get a breakaway until after the first intermediate sprint. I relayed my team hard and was able to win the 2nd intermediate sprint with Betancur.
At that point things were looking good as I had regained the GC lead and all the other sprint stages finished with the peleton going slow before the sprint. I took my foot off the gas and the peleton quickly caught up to my group.
However, when they caught my group they didn't slow the pace at all. Sure enough, at the front of the peleton was Tom Slagter and his Rabobank teammates. They pushed the pace hard until the end and Betancur had expended so much energy to win the 2nd intermediate sprint that he was dropped from the peleton in the final 20km and ended up finishing over 2 minutes behind. Tom Slagter finished with the group and won the GC. |

I always play on hard. And I guess it was a clear sign of what Slagter was about to do in Tour Down Under this year |

Im very new to PCM, but i am managing Endura Racing on Hard mode
.....last night nearly won my first stage of any race, had an excellent sprint train and got lead on the final sprint, only to get piped to the line by an excellent sprint by the AI...to be fair the AI team were a good Pro Conti team (cant excatlly remember who)....but it was very exciting! I was already celebrating my first EVER stage win to lose it within less than 1 yard!!
Ill get one eventually! |
