You can't really expect GC action in a stage like this. Only if weird stuff happens the GC will change, but you can't expect that as it wouldn't be weird if you think it possible
I actually can. Let me tell you why.
There is 3 stages left to gain time.
The first is today.
There is almost 26 km downhill From the top mur de peguere, and 13 "flat" km.
From 152.5km - 178km it goes down.
yesterday evans attacked with over 20 flat km to the finish with a lot of headwind.
So every reasonable logic says that today is a 1000 times better opportunity compared to yesterday.
Furthermore a big part of the downhill is pretty difficult.
And they have no reason of saving their energy for tomorrow or tuesday. So they should ride with all they have today.
The key will be early attacks and isolating wiggins and froome
once again I agre....VDB and co. need some time before TT, there isnt many mountains left, I think everybody sees that Wiggo or Froome are not gonna loose lot of time in Pyrenees even if they have bad day (something like Evans)
if they attack on first climb could be very interesting, isolate Wiggo and Froome and on the second climb, attack after attack...
but that are only our wishes |

Absolutely true. We need attacks on the first mountain, or in the bottom of the second. This should force Froome and Wiggins to do the hard work.
Yes it is our greatest wishes for today, but from what i have seen this year from Nibali and VDB, i do think they will attack. Massive respect to both of them, i think they have just stepped it up a bit this year. They have matched Wiggins and Froome almost 100 percent. They are incredible aggressive, and without them,Rolland and Pinot, this year would have been the worst Tour ever. They have been the main reason for this Tour's entertainment level. (Along with Sagan )
Next year when Contador and Schleck are back, it will be the Tour of the attackers. Lets hope they create a route with 5 finishes on the Mountains.
Really have gained much respect for VDB and Nibali - Go go go attack attack attack ! |

Worth noting however, is that Evans wasn't really attacking Wiggins yesterday. From what I understood, he was simply trying to keep a strong position, and maybe also thin out the field of sprinters for Gilbert.

From what all our experts and reports here in Denmark have understood from the interviews and analysis, was that Evans was attacking.
The tried twice in the headwind when they noticed Wiggins was down to 20-40th place in the peloton. And then on the cat. 3 climb, where VDB also tried. They couldnt get rid of him, although it looked like at one point that they might could get away.
I think the real gain was in Evans head. He showed his character and hopefully regained some confidence and believe.
Hoping for a big stage, but lets see. I really dont think VDB has given up the podium. He is in the shape of his life.
Otherwise lets hope Rolland and Pinot can do some damage

It is also worth noting that they are only human and thus if they attack on the first climb and set a high enough pace to isolate Wiggins and Froome, then they aren't going to have that much left for the second climb, let alone the run in to the finish.

The 20km flat after the final climb/descent makes me think nothing serious will happen today, but a rider like Evans or VDB could potentially put Wiggins in difficulty in the final km's of the Péguére due to the steepness (is that a word?) of it.

At the base of the first climb. Sagan tried to get away but was brought back.

Group splits. Schleck and Kloden are in the second part of the peloton. I haven't got more information on group sizes/make up etc.

Hopefully. I want Coppel to do well here.
Sagan, Kruiswijk, Paulinho about 15" ahead of the peloton, but coming down.

When he tried to escape in the Alps the other day, he was 14th in G.C. That's when Wiggins escaped from the peloton to catch him, later commenting : "It was Coppel. 14th G.C., only 15 minutes down. You never know."
I guess that, unless he loses loads of time, Sky won't grant him a breakaway ticket. |

Yeah but he is a good enough time trialist to maybe still aim for a bottom top 10 result. He is just targetting top 15 anyway.
But regardless he is now 1'30" behind the pack, so that's a whole different issue.

He won't easily get in the breakaway anyway, being now almost 2 minutes behind the peloton.
