And now Le Samyn
I don't really know what happened there, Van Avermaet and Goddaert were not sprinting anymore but still overtook three other riders in the last 200 meters. I'm thinking the sprint ended in a hill and their good hills rating enabled them to overtake pure sprinters. That would explain why Roelandts was to his limit and could not make any ground on Gilbert. Really unexpected though!

Another great result, though the competition is not really up to par... |

Here's the Strade Bianche
Good result for Hermans, we came very close! The worst part is that Ascani was not part of the original breakaway but was able to bridge a 3 minutes gap between the pack and the attackers. In hindsight, I should have had Hermans participate a bit more in the break at that point and Ascani wouldn't have been in shape to join him in his attack and then win the sprint... |

You're absolutely right, here's stage 3
Perfect race for us: a good enough sprinter (73 SPR & ACC) in a breakaway with no member closer than 3 minutes in the general classification, which means as a teammate of the leader, he does not have to give any effort except the sprints, and our team can wait in the pack knowing there is no danger and no point in even sprinting at the end.
That's a dominating performance for us in a stage race in our country, but more serious matters start on the same day with the prologue of Paris - Nice and Tirreno - Adriatico starting very soon. We won't be able to dominate that type of competition. |
