Thanks Sutty, and he will hopefully win stage 5, as his form is over 70 because of the fast peak for Sardegna. He will also ride in Oman, where he'll be our leader.

Tour de San Luís Stage 5

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/Profile-3.jpg

Today is an easy stage until the end, where the 8.4km long and also very steep Mirador el Sol awaits us. It should be a nice battle at this place for the orange jersey. The current wearer is David Millar (Garmin), and he said yesterday, that this will be the key day for him. We will see.

Favourites:
Dekker (GRM)
Millar (GRM)
Monfort (RNT)

The stage

Today's weather is very hot, and lots of riders will suffer from the heat. Despite the weather, there were a quite big breakaway, with names like Masciarelli, Rubiano or Jesus Hernandez.

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/BotD-2.jpg

A pretty strong BotD

In the Peleton Garmin- Barracuda dictated a fairly slow pace, and with 30kms to go the lead breaks was more than 6 minutes, so it looked very good for the breakaway. Unfortunately our photographer was so excited because of the last climb, that he didn't take any photos during the climb. Anyway, here is the write-up of the climb. Masciarelli and Hernández attacked out of the climb, and made a very fast pace. The peleton broke into pieces, and Duarte missed the cut. Stetina was right up there with Dekker and Monfort, and also unfortunately with U25 jersey wearer Talansky. Millar was a little bit behind with Henao. At the end Masciarelly won the race with a little gap to Jesús Hernandez. Then came Zaugg and Rubiano, who lost some ground during the sprint. Our Photographer got back to work, and took a nice picture of Masciarelli celebrating his well deserved win.

Tour de San Luís Stage 6

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/profile-4.jpg

Todays stage is a hard and demanding hilly stage. Our team was pretty excited before this stage. Rubiano looked to win both KOM sprints and secure his jersey, and Duarte hoped to do well against the big guns.

Favourites:
Dekker (GRM)
Millar (GRM)
Monfort (RNT)

The stage

There weren't to much action in the first kms, but then Rubiano attacked and soloed well until the 2nd KOM sprint, where he got a company of 4.

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/BotD-3.jpg

The escapees

They tried to cooperate, but they were unable to make this breakaway succcesful, as Garmin pulled them back.

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/garminpace-2.jpg

Garmin doing the pace

At the foot of the 2nd climb, the peleton broke into very small pieces, in the first steep section.

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/piecebreaking.jpg

Boss, where are my teammates?

After a very strong pace by Zaugg, a group of 5 riders separated themselves from the others. Talansky, Dekker, Zaugg, Monfort and our Duarte.

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/top5.jpg

Just 4 left for Zaugg...

With 1km to go the sprint started and Dekker and Zaugg started to sprint away from the other 3.

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/1km.jpg

Dekker or Zaugg?

Zaugg wins stage 6! What a performance by the swissman!

Tour de San Luís Stage 7

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/profile-5.jpg

Today is the final stage of the Tour de San Luís, and if nothing happens Thomas Dekker will take home the orange jersey, and the win. For us this stage is all about waiting till the end. Possibly it'll come down in a mass sprint, with the main favs being Guardini and Förster.

Favourites:
Guardini (FAR)
Förster (UHC)
Roulston (RNT)

The stage

In the peleton Garmin made an easy pace and let a quite big breakaway go.

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/BotD-4.jpg

Will the break finally make it?

With 40kms it was not looking good for the attackers. UnitedHealthcare (Förster) and Farnese- Vini (Guardini) made a very big place, and didn't want to let the break away.

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/Farnese-UHCwork.jpg

Farnese and UHC sharing the work

At 10kms the break was caught and the sprint preparations started. Farnese- Vini came fast with a very well organised train for Andrea Guardini.

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/2km.jpg

Things were a bit messy

When the sprint got through the 1km sign, there was a clear lead for the italian fast- man Guardini.

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/1km-1.jpg

Guardini for the 2nd stage win?

Guardini wins stage 7! Although Förster was faster in the last km, Guardini took the stage after a fantastic leadout by Faili and Gatto.

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/Guardiniwin-1.jpg

A happy, but tired Guardini

We lead also the team and rider ranks in the CT.

Ah well it was not to be, but 5th place is still a good result Wink

January review

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/Janreview32.jpg

Team Garmin- Barracuda was the most dominant force in January. They won the Tour de San Luís with Dekker, and classics specialist Vansummeren won the TdU after a nice victory at Willunga Hill. Cadel Evans became Australian ITT Champion, and Stuey O'Grady wears the Australian RR Champion shirt. The rider of the month was a sprinter, whos dominancy in the TdU was very impressive.
This rider is the german "Gorilla" from Lotto- Belisol, Andre Greipel. He won not 3, not 4 but 5 stages in the Tour Down Under! What a nice achievement for him! Congratulations!

For Fiat - Diadora, this was a quite succesful month. Rubiano won the KOM jersey in Argentina, and Fabio Duarte got 5th at the same race.

February preview

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/febpreview.jpg

In February the preparation usually starts for the cobble specialists, and for those who want to be the main contenders in P-N or T-A. The most important stage - races are Tour of Qatar, Vuelta a Mallorca, Tour of Oman and Volta ao Algarve. At the end of February, two cobbled classics will be held, as the first indicator of the cobblers form.

Fiat- Diadora will ride in Italy apart from the Tour of Oman. In the Giro della Calabria we'll try to fulfill our goal, which is a stage win. We'll also ride some italian one-day races, in whiches we are hunting the win. In the Tour of Oman we'll try to get the win with Fabio Duarte, aswell in Sardegna. This will be a quite busy month for us, but our riders are delighted, and eager to show their abilities. We hope for a good February.

Some nice Italian races for the team to shine in Wink

Yes, hopefully Duarte can snatch some good positions.

Tomorrow earliest, as I won't get to my PCM computer 'till then. ca. 100 riders stats are revised, mainly sprinter, climber and young talents. Some flat stats are improved, and I'm thinking of some more REC for the sprinters.

Giro della Calabria Preview

www.cyclingfans.net/images/2011_provincia_di_reggio_calabria.jpg

Our squad:

i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh505/matinho97/csapat-1.jpg

Fabio Duarte is in such a great form after Tour de San Luís, that he is a big contender for the GC. Our goal here in Italy is a stage-win, which is also a sponsor goal, so it's quite important. We brought there our top sprinter Giacomo Nizzolo, who lacks form, and has hard competition with some top sprinters being there.

Top 3 (Duarte)
Stage- win (anybody)

Fabio meets a very strong opposition. Peter Sagan from Liquigas, Spilak from Katusha and also Bosisio from Utensilnord are there. The sprinting section is also amazing with "old but speedy" Petacchi, and also Sagan. This will be a very interesing tour, that's for sure.
