Great result by Modolo considering the bad early season form
Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. Teach a man to cycle and he will realize fishing is stupid and boring.

3things
1 - Congrats on a solid start with Modolo
2 - Nice to see Westra win, even if it did spoil your day a tad epic rider
3 - Pozzo's stats, 77mo? Surely 79! And 71do? The bloke practically falls off every time the roads goes downhill
that's all from me good luck once more

@CountArach Thanks, and yes as his form improves we expect lots more wins.
@chris Thanks
@baggieboys 1. Thanks
2. I don't care who won, it's bloody annoying!
3. I was thinking about tweaking his stat, might make it 78. And about the do, I'm sticking with 71.
Giro della Calabria
The Giro della Calabria is Italy's first stage-race of the season, but has been on-and-off over the past 91 years of it's existence, since the first edition in 1920. Past winners have included Michele Bartoli, Daniele Pietroppoli and most-recently Daniele Pietroppoli.
This years route is one for the punchy climber. All three stages are characterized by medium climbs somwhere in the route, and with Pozzovivo out there riding, we have a good-chance for a top-5.

Stage 1
The first stage is a pan-flat ride all the way to Catanzaro where the road kicks up for the final 15 or so kms. A rider like Rodriguez or Cunego is best fitted for today's stage, although Pozzo will do his best to keep up.
No breaks were clear for nearly the whole day. The race was in one piece when it got to the final section, and Katusha lifted the pace. As the climb began, Basso was the first to kick, so Pozzovivo followed. Pozzo was feeling fresh after Pirazzi protected him well up the final climb. While the others were attacking off the saddle, Pozzo was staying put, putting in a solo effort to catch up. He eventually caught Rodriguez, but as the sprint began, his accelaration blew the rest of the riders away. Pozzo was soon past by Janez Brajkovic and Ivan Basso, and lost a total of 29 seconds.
Rodriguez will be tough to beat here in Calabria..
Stage 2
Today is probably the hardest stage of the race. The climb 35kms from the line will cause major selection, and the final uphill sprint will favour Rodriguez, once again.
A weak break got free containing no-name riders. Jackson Rodriguez of Androni was the best rider there. Their gap was around 6 minutes at it's peak, but they were brought back on the final climb. As the peloton began to ride up, Stefano Pirazzi started his drive. He pushed hard, and caused the group to split. He was soon exhausted, but it was worth it, as a 6-man favourites group came out ahead, containing Pozzovivo. Rodriguez, Basso, Brajkovic, Pavel Brutt, Vladimir Gusev and a strong Gerald Ciolek made up the leaders. Pozzo was feeling great, but once the final uphill sprint began, Rodriguez's amazing accelartion caused a 10 second seperation, and Rodriguez's crown was all but placed upon his little head. Pozzo beats the rest to come in second, and overtakes the KoM jersey.
Pozzovivo edged out Basso for 2nd place, but the top-5 is still stable, with the Colnago rider in 4th.
Stage 3
The final stage was probably one for the sprinters or for a break. The final standings were basically sewed up, but it was still a big day for Pozzovivo as he attempts to defend his KoM jersey.
A strong break got free early, which included Jose Serpa and Fabio Taborre, both riders who were just beaten by Pietroppoli last year, among others. It seemed as if today was their redemption. Their biggest lead was around 9 minutes, as no one was chasing on a mainly calm, Calabrian day. The main action came after about 120kms, when our-own Pozzovivo attacked from the peloton to take a vital 2 points which wrapped up his KoM jersey. Well done to him.
Over the climb, the pack was split, but some strong sprinters remained. The lead group had been cut down to only 4 though, with René Jørgensen and Matvey Zubov joining Taborre and Serpa in front. Their lead was around 3 minutes with 20 kms left. They held on all the way to the Reggio de Calabria were a strong sprint from Taborre wiped out the rest. A great win for him. The pack followed, led in by Stefan Schumacher, about 1 minute later.
Taborre celebrates the win he should of earned last year. A well-timed break by him.

Nice (and realistic) start of the season. Hope you can make it as legendary as Tuco the Ugly's one with Colnago!

@sutty Yes it was..
@dienblad I just hope to reach like 10-15 pages first!
Colnago to ride Tirreno, MSR
The race officials of Tirreno-Adriatico and Milano-San Remo have made the expected decision to allow Colnago to ride their races. We are very pleased with this decision, as it means our stars Domenico Pozzovivo and Sacha Modolo's peaks won't go unused. Both look for big results in their respective races.
Trofeo Laigueglia
Another early season Italian classic, the Trofeo Laigueglia has a storied 48 year history. Past winners include Eddy Merckx, Lance Armstrong, Michele Bartoli, Paolo Salvodelli, Luca Paolini, Fillipo Pozzato and most-recently Daniele Pietroppoli. The race has four big climbs to test the riders, finishing flat into the Cap Mele which will be a final-test for the already tired riders. The Passo di Testico will be ascented three times, with the Passo Balestrino once at the beggining.
Domenico Pozzovivo once again returns, for his 2nd race of the season. The main goal of this race, and the following two, is to improve form for the Tirreno-Adriatico. He has decent fitness currently though, so we expect something around top 10-15.

Once again, a break made up of weak riders (and no Colnago riders) was the BOTD. They were never a real threat though. The first two ascensions left the peloton nearly completely unscathed, although the fireworks started on the third as an attack from Henry Frusto and Fabio Felline forced them to wake up and many inferior climbers were dropped, although most Colnago riders were comfortable and headed downhill, protecting the leader Pozzo. Once the final climb was reached, it was a minor anti-climax. The pace was increased by Katusha and Astana, and the pack split into a final lead-group of about 30 riders with no succesful attacks. On the downhill, 2011 Winner Daniele Pietropolli and Emanuele Sella both attacked, and they got a gap depsite chase from Astana for their leader Kreuziger. Sella was eventually dropped, and despite a closing sprint, Pietroppoli defended his title and celebrated in style! Pozzo, an inferior sprinter, came in 9th. Well done to him.

Yeah, looks really nice so far. I'm just a bit confised about the final reserved spot Anything still coming there?

Great story with one of my favourite teams. I look forward to seeing what Pozzovivo and Modolo can do at the Giro, and you targets definitely look acheivable.

@TomC Thanks, good to hear you'll be following.
@cunego Thanks very much. As for the final spot, I thought I'd add a spare one just in case, but I don't think I'll use it.
@jph Thanks. Modolo will in fact not ride the Giro, he's peaking for MSR and some July classics. My Giro squad (if I get in) will be completely based around Pozzo.
G.P. di Lugano
Formely a time-trial classic, the Lugano classic is now one of Switzerland's biggest classics. Last years champion was Ivan Basso, while other former winners are Paolo Bettini, Luca Paolini, David Moncoutie and of course the great Eddy Merckx. The 178-kilometer race comprises five laps of a figure-eight shaped, 35.7 km circuit.
Pozzo is set to race his 3rd prep race for the TA here, and with improved form a better result is on the cards hopefully. That means top-5.

Alberto Contoli was lucky enough to join today's break, and joined riders with similar stats to him. They actually developed a large break, and were nearly out front all the way. After three laps the peloton was still pretty big, so Stefano Pirazzi hit the front and increased the pace to catch the break, and cause some disruptions in the peloton. Once the final climb came around, a small favourites group had formed. Kiserlovski attacked first, and Pozzo was the only rider really able to comfortably follow. Both got too tired though, and with a sprint finish on the cards Katusha and Astana were pushing hard and reformed with Pozzo and Kiserlovski. Into the final 2kms, when Kiserlovksi kicked, Pozzo got on his wheel. While those two were battling though, Simon Spilak and Dimirti Murayev both burst out aheadm and Spilak crossed the line first, as Pozzo edged Kiserlovksi to round out the podium.

@PCM rulezz Thanks. Yes Astana did do well, and Kessiakoff crashed right near the end, suprised he made it the whole way.
@sutty Yeah by Tirreno it'll be nearly peaking so he will go for the KoM jersey there as well as a good placing..
@baia Thanks baia. Do you like just the one screen or should I post more in a gallery section, like in Squire's story?
Strade Bianche
Strade Bianche (White Road) has rapidly risen as a favorite among bike racing fans and racers since the first edition in 2007. Italy's version of Paris-Roubaix is held on the white dirt roads of Tuscany with the finish in Siena. All the winners since '07 are Alexander Kolobnev, Fabian Cancellara, Maxim Iglinisky, Thomas Lofkvist and of course Phillipe Gilbert took the title during his rampage of the classics last season.
The race starts in Gaiole in Chianti and finishes in the famous public space Piazza del Campo in Siena. The route consists of 190 kilometres around the city of Siena, including 70 kilometres of gravel roads.
Pozzovivo is once again our leader. He has been riding on these gravel roads recently so he is confident he can put in a good result. Sacha is riding here to improve form or Tirreno and then ultimately MSR. Also notable, this race is a sponsor goal. A top-10 is expected.

We didn't try and join the day's break, as we knew teams like Lampre, Liquigas and Farnese Vini would chase for their leaders. Turns out we were right, and no break was allowed a decent gap all day. The gravel roads were being nice to Pozzo, as he was comfortably stiking to the front and was feeling confident about his chances to achieve the sponsor goal, and maybe even better. Over the main climb of the day the peloton was still pretty comfortable. We sent Battaglin, Di Corrado and Locatelli to the front to push the pace, and it paid off, with the numbers depleting. As well as Pozzo, Modolo was in the front group too. But into the last 5 kilmotres, the real fireworks started. Vincenzo Nibali was the first to attack, and Gasparotto, Kolobnev and Spilak were all dropped. Pozzo followed easily, but once the sprint started, despite his terrific positioning, he was again too slow, with Nibali speeding ahead and Grega Bole and Kiserlovski also passing Domenico. All in all though, a great ride as he beat some big names (Pozzato, Cunego, Gasparotto). Modolo sprinted to 20th..

Another good result... .. keep it up...
Well, about the screens.... i like your screens very much, you can keep it like it is now or maybe sometimes when something important happens at the race, you could post that in one screen... one good picture is more worth then 1000 words...

@sutty Yeah, Strade Bianche is one of my faves too. Shame Pozzo couldn't do better, but I was still happy with his result.
@PCM rulezz Thanks very much.
@baia Thanks man, yeah I think I will stick with one screen per small race, but in PT races or other big races I will do detailed reports with lots of screens.
Tirreno - Adriatico - Preview
The Race
The Tirreno - Adriatico, Italy's second biggest stage race (behind the Giro of course), has been running since 1966 as an important precursor for the Milano - San Remo classic. Some of the biggest names in cycling have famously won this race, such as David Rebellin, Fillipo Pozzato, Paolo Bettini, Oscar Freire, Andreas Kloden, Fabian Cancellara, Michele Scarponi, and last year, TdF winner Cadel Evans. Roger de Vlaeminck is the most succesful rider here, winning 6 straight editions between 1972 and 77. The Race of Two Seas never fails to dissapoint, as the riders transit between the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic coasts of Italy.
The Route
This years route suits a rider with a strong team, strong TT skills and capable climbing ability. The key stages are the first stage team Time-Trial, the 4th and 5th stages, which feature steep climbs, and the final stage time-trial, although at only 9kms, may not be too decisive. The 5th stage will most likely have the largest gaps, with a summit finish atop the Prati di Tivo.
The Team
Once again, Domenico Pozzovivo is our leader. Since the TT kilometres in this route are heavy, he will ride freely, hunting for the King of the Mountains jersey. Sacha Modolo looks to improve form and compete on stage 2 before he leads in the MSR soon after this race. Battaglin, Pirazzi,
