It hasn't really been discussed, or else I missed it, but will Valverde be riding the Tour?
I seem to remember something about his points not counting this year, so he wouldn't ride the most important races actually.
I hope Hesjedal can get a stage win! He will probably lose time to the leaders as he works for Danielson/american Stage Race leader, so he could be allowed to get in a break later on!

I've seen several betting sites have Valverde on their markets around same odds as Gesink/Nibali, so he may well ride the Tour. As for Hesjedal, I think the Garmin leader might be Vandevelde, but you never know with Garmin.

Valverde will ride the Tour i think its not a good idea to underestimate him because the route is almost perfect for him.
And I am happy that he is back in cycling so i hope that he win the tour and i hope that the arrogant schlecks not win the tour

Me too, I'm glad we have guys convicted for doping back, and I hope they win the biggest races, so that a message is sent. |

It'd be epic if Wiggins won TDF! I hope Van Den Broeck gets a podium place, he's working real hard for it, he deserves it. Too many flat stages imo, though. |

Valverde's points don't count for 2 years according to UCI rules on returning dopers.
Just like when Contador returns his points don't count for 2 years.
Edit; It might be one year, not 2
Cavs for the Points Jersey!!!!

Towards UCI ranking, which is important for acceptance into ProTour etc.

I didn't know that. So that's bad news for Saxo Bank even if he does return there, right? |

Yep and it is why Riis said he is going to appeal the rule to the UCI. The only way he will win that appeal is of the UCI are completely spineless.
So yeah he will probably win.

I'm not much of a fan of that rule. The suspension is the punishment, when that's over, it should be over, imo. |

i think in valverde's case the points do count but he is one of the last riders in that situation (according to an article in Pro Cycling Magazine, the stipulation applies to riders suspended since 1st July 2011)
but Contador's won't count.
To me it seems unfair, both Lotto and Ag2r secured their WorldTour licenses by signing riders without experience of racing in Europe who have so far found it difficult to adjust to racing in Europe (i hope they got 2 year contracts because it wouldn't be fair on the rider's if it was only 1) but these rider's points won't count. |

At the end of the day, anyone who cheats should not be allowed to participate in any of the Grand Tours, well thats my view and i am sticking by it |

I think every case is different.
And anyhow, if a cobblestone rider was caught, why should he care about not being able to do a GT anymore, see what I mean? |

Why the talk about points from Valverde ? Movistar is overall strong and they don't need points from Valverde to stay in WT anyway. However with Conta is different matter as Saxo needs them.
And to the TheManxMissile, Cav is very likely to pull out of Tour midway to prepare for Olympics
