Another idea to check. When I installed the PCM DB and PCM 2010 it actually installed into this weird hidden folder (path below). The game worked fine but when I started editing stages I got very frustrated because I was making edits to the visible folder and they were having no impact because the game was actually running off the stages in the weird hidden folder. The fact you are seeing one set of variants in your db and a different one in the folder you are looking at suggest you may have something similar.

I found it by searching for the variant folder I think and turning on show hidden folders option in windows explorer. Maybe someone who knows more about window can explain it. Once I found that I made all my edits there and it was fine.

The path was:

Users\Username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Cyanide\Pro Cycling Manager - Season 2010\CM_Stages

Hmm, i found this folder, it had a Folder called Variant in it as well.

Inside the Variant file, there was a .txt file, which had 2 lines of words in.

I then copied my CM_Stages file over this one and tried to make a new game... Still no new variants, but when i then went back to have a look at this file, It had Completely Disappeared

Got me, didn't have that experience. Wonder if you have a third version lurking somewhere.
