Do you think these are decent times for a freshman?
800- 2:38
1600- 5:48
I'm the third fastest runner at my school, the two that are faster than me finished in the top 5 for state, so I have nothing to really compare myself too... |

I am first in my school..., going to be a senior this year
800 - 2:14
1600 - 4:57
My freshman year our 800's were very similar, my 1600 was always around 5:35 my freshman year

Cool, the only real training that I do is riding my bike so if I actually ran in things other than track meets and PE, I think I could improve some |

I do track only for training. I guess I'm too old for turning into a track athlete, or not good enough, to put it more honestly. I'd probably have done that if I hadn't gone the cycling way (and there were no athletics club around at the time).
I think my only recorded performance was a 1 000 m, which I could do in 3'45" at 12 (great, I'm feeling old now, when I was 12, I was like 42% of my current age).
Running is more effective for global progression, as you burn like twice the amount of energy if you spend the same time at the same heart rate.
Don't you guys run longer distances than 5000 m ? |

I frequently run long distance, so between 5000 and 10 000 meters. Lately however, I've been achieving better times on 1500, 3000 and 5000 then I do on the 10k.
I am considering changing over to be more of a "long-middle distance runner".

With age you'll lose a little speed, and gain endurance, no matter what, so at some point you'll run the same distances as me when you'll be my age, kids. |

Well, good luck then.
1500 on 5k ? Better have a good position on the grid, cause overtaking is sometimes really painful (I've once run a 10 k with 3000 persons at about 75 % of the field, ended in the first third despite a poor 45:30, I remember getting mad at all those large people running in the way). |

I had a 14,1 km race today, in the woods, so no tarmac at all, which made everyone slower. It had a relatively long stairway-like clim (7% on 300 m, 50 m flat, and so on 4 or 5 times in a row).
I must have finished 54th or something in 58 minutes (waiting for confirmation).
Note to self for next time : finishing your lunch three hours prior the race is a generality. Depending on your health and food, it might not always be enough (could as well be too much).
So, I got a stomach bug, that prevented me from really accelerating the pace on easier sections. That probably cost me 2 or 3 minutes on the race length.
Not that bad in the end, given I'd been a little sick for two weeks, and a little ill (nose and throat) lately.
I passed the 10 km mark in 41 minutes, which isn't bad (assuming it had been properly measured).
Things should work better next time, with a 10 k (9,7 actually) on the road.
Oh, and I lapped the last two guys, there were only three laps.

I ended up getting a 19:04.. it was scorching heat weather.
I did a 5K last week with a crowd of about 90 and won it
Got a 18:03
You can see how dead I was here
That was the first time that I ever wore glasses in a race, because I had lost my contact lens down the drain in the morning

Don't you use proper running shorts and shirt (sleeves-less) ?
Less weight, less friction. |

Haha, that's faster than me, I'm younger and more a 400-800m runner though. But hey, good job!

Those are pretty decent times. 800m meter could be improved a bit. How old are you?
