Sky confirms that only 6 riders will start the race. Reason given later in the evening. Appollonio, Porte, Siutsou, Urán, Wiggins and Zandio.

Sky need to sort their priorties out, I understand that it's Olympic year but you surely have to comply with the rules in fielding 8 riders for the race. Little bit of a mess their getting themselves in.

They have priorities, to win everything. It will be fun to see them fail in these objectivesWink

I don't see how the Olympics would have anything to do with that.

If an important British rider would have been taken out maybe that could have been an explanation (odd, but an explanation), but with Rogers and Pate being those who won't start, I simply can't see the connection.

First, you can field minimum 6 riders in a WT race so no problem there.

Second of all, and more improtant Pate has to go to Dwars and E3 as Sky wouldn't have enough riders.

Barry and Dowsett - Broken Elbows

Kennaugh, Thomas, Swift - Specific Track Training

Knees - Injured

Flecha - Broken finger/arm

Barry, Flecha, Thomas, Dowsett and Knees would be certs for Dwards and E3, but cant ride. So Pate and Svistov have to go to those races. No other way can be done.

This is because of the Worlds or specific training for Olympics? I dont get it what use Sky has from having the riders which cannot help them in important road races Rolling Eyes

Worlds, iirc they said they want to do really well at Worlds and see how they progress from there. No way Brailsford would hazard Thomas on such race over a potential Gold at Olympics.

Although three of them said they will finish up with Track after London and focus on road. Thomas will ride Giro/Vuelta though, Siwft too. Dunno about Kennaugh. After this year the whole team will be focused on road, so that's good at least.

Gotta remember that Brailsford is also the British Track Cycling Director and since Thomas, Swift and Kennaugh are all good track riders, he needs to do well at the Olympics and Worlds to keep his job. There is also the fact of getting cycling gold at you're home Olympics which I think is pretty important and the riders will certainly want to be in with a chance to get one.

And in your reply to wanting to win everything, thats the staff mentality at Team Sky. Why else would they have assembled a squad that is relatively good on every bit of terrain?

"Fortunately mononucleosis is a disease with which you don't have to stay in bed or in hospital. [...] I will go to Estonia and stay at home for about a month. However, I will continue to ride my bike, but reasonably, just an hour or two a day. Apparently the virus is not as hard, as it was the case with some collegues. My teammate Rudy Mollard for example suffered a virus infection in december and was a living corpse till march, even the eyes were hurting. Me, I still finished Paris-Nice (after already having got the infection before). [...] So it's a so called light version. Apparently this is the case because I had some antibodies present in my body for already having had the virus in the past. [...] Do not worry, suffering from a virus like that isn't the best start of the season, but I've already finished four races and stepped on the podium five times. [...] A month of calmness and then I start the preparation for my new goal, the Tour de France. Ther'll surely be enough time to reach peak form till july. One day I'll be glad that everything went the way it did."

Not as bad as it seems, hopefully Taaramae does indeed recover for Tour, he'd be the biggest favourite for the White imo.

Absolutely agree CLURPR, there's a lot of pressure on Brailsford to deliver, and he does indeed needs to if he wants to keep the job.

+ Track cycling is, at least as far as i know, huge in GB. So does not really seem weird or stupid to me.

Also exactly the same thing will happen with Greenedge and Bobridge, Meyer etc.

Always going to happen when the road team is so closely aligned with the National Track Team like Sky and Greenedge are.

Yeah, Albasini has this pretty much in the bag, the gap with Delaplace keeps growing.

Albasini wins. Great result for Delaplace too.
