Meanwhile in France, Mr. Ciprelli (Jeannie Longo's husband if you ask) has admitted buying EPO from China 15 times since 2007.

The Tour of Hangzhou is another Chinese race being races one week after Beijing.
Haven`t found any news about the route or so.
But why? No spectators, no media interest, nothing. I understand the globalization issue, but adding another Chinese race before the current one works properly is weird. |

Blaming John Mahoney for all your problems isn't a solution Crommy. You need to look yourself in the mirror.

Knowing how extremely exciting Beijing was, I'm sure Hangzhou is on Tour level, to say the least.

Another chinese WT race sucks, China 2 WT races and a country like Portugal not one?! come on just make another continental race in China if you want to globalize cycling? but why another WT race? As ct said, there's totally no attention for races up there. Than it sounds better to promote Volta a Portugal to WT.
Is there never been talked about a south-american WT race? Why not make a stage race in Colombia and make it world-tour?

Why dont they make the Tour of California WT?
Other than money, and forcing the Chinese to watch cycling i.e. globalization (which we know, wont work for 99% of them), I dont see any reason for this.
But then again, what have they done that has ever made sense?

Would California want to be WT? They already happily go along claiming to be a massive race, and staying as they are, makes sure plenty of the American teams get to ride

I dont know if Cali would want to be PT, but surely there would be more of a market in the US for cycling, than in China (although, most European countries can say the same thing). And like you said, they have been claiming they are a massive race. Becoming a PT race would help them say that even more, I believe.
As for the american teams, that could be a legitimate factor stopping them, and could be the reason it isn't PT already.
I was just throwing out an option pretty much, if all the UCI wants is Globalization and money. Cali fits the bill better than China imo.

If Cali becomes WT that will limit amount of local teams a lot, and they do a lot to animate that race greatly. Dunno if it would be better, many PT teams don't have any market in USA, so I don't think it would work.

Cali, Portugal, Tour of Britain, USA Pro Challenge, Anything in Denmark Scandenavia or even Columbia just somewhere were Cycling is popular would surely have been a better choice! |

China has as many Continental races as Norway and Canada combined, more than Australia and Britain combined, twice as many as Switzerland.
Just because you don't think it should have races, doesn't mean that it shouldn't.

I don't know, but more people ride in them, and they have been around longer, than the tour of Britain.
