I remain ever hopeful that Impey will morph into Bettini overnight, bar that, I'll be overjoyed if he wins an SSR next year.

Seriously though, Greenedge will only win the odd TT and a lot of sprints.

Now if GreenEDGE had T Martin, they would be a TT Powerhouse.
and yes we do love the rivalry against Sky should be great to watch their progress |

I dont think sky wil become boring at all. Need to remember they have many great GC guys in there team now. Something i feel HTC lacked slightly over the years. Yes they had a few good climbers but not as many and as higher standard as some of the sky guys. I dont think GE dont have anything like the level of riders of which sky have. Also commenting on the second comment on this thread, why not have a thread where we can talk about the teams individually. Sort it out into UCI classifacation folders and that way it keeps it all tidy. |

Not a bad idea.
And also, Bannan has even said to not expect a whole lot from GreenEDGE in the first year, he said they'd just experiment and see what happens and that they'd build the team up over time. Maybe next year they'll sign some more exciting riders to contribute to the teeam.

Yeah, I think Bannan is saying the right things .. I just want to see them moving in a positive direction.
The announcement of the Subaru deal sounds like a good step forward. |

I know it's only one race... I know Gerrans wasn't the strongest rider on the day ... but looking back through this thread, I can't help but smile.
Greenedge don't have to win anything else all year and I'd still be willing to call it a successful 1st season!! |

I have a feeling Gerrans will be the dark horse for the Classics and smaller stage races this year. He's got the form.
He might well have a similar season to Gilbert 2011.
GE now need some of the other riders to step up. Cant be a 1 man band. Sorry to say Bannan signed too many , that are well past their prime. For a fledgling in its first season, they should have signed more youth and a GC contender. Young riders with no fear and "never say die" would suit a developing WT team, much better in the long term.
He didnt do enough to secure Evans , Porte or even Rogers. Geez! Even Cobo was on the open market for a while after the GEOX collapse. Bannan has modelled the team along similar lines to HTC. So no harm in getting riders from other parts of Europe. Not just Holland.
They'd stand more chance of getting their stage wins in the Tours. Apart from Gerrans, I dont see anyone else pushing the envelop this year.

There's no way Gerrans can have a similar season like Gilbert 2011. He doesn't have the quality and even for a rider like Gilbert it's highly unlikely that he will repeat this feat. I think Gerrans just peaked in the early season half. He was already in good shape at the Tour Down Under. Let's wait for the other classics before we can say that GreenEdge is a 1 man band. Maybe Langeveld will be good in the cobble classics.
And I think GreenEdge has a lot of young promising riders: Durbridge, Hepburn, Bobridge, Cameron and Travis Meyer, Keukeleire and Howard.
Cameron Meyer recently rode a great Tirreno - Adriatico where he finished 10th.
I do agree that their line up lacks GC riders and climbers, which is a pity. |

That is a rather bold statement. Nothing to me indicates a 2011 Gilbert season for Gerrans. Yeah he's good, but 2011 was something very rare and quite special indeed. We are in March, there's a long way to go. And the other classics, well they are a totally different type of race.
Greenedge are having a great season, it will continue. But let's not go all "ZOMG GERRANS IZ THE AWESOMEIST"

Maybe he will have something more like a Gilbert 2010 season but yeah it will be a long time before someone repeats the Gilbert 2011 results.

He won the Catalunya, but thanks to the 2nd stage results not being counted. If it was, he would end on the loosers side. But still Greenedge with nice results
