Once again a great sprint from Marinangeli. Just a shame for him that the first two wasn't catched. I'm definatley happy with the two first stages, now it's up to Pellizotti to gain some time on Alto de Malhao!

And great reporting Smowz. I really enjoy them, great depth, details and language. It's great that you put this much work in race reports from a C1 stage race. Thanks!
Will we see the Queen stage this evening, or do you save the goodies for a better moment? |

Well, that just threw the race for overall victory wide open!

7/16 75+ TT riders said good bye today.
My bet is on Sanchez now. So big gaps on a stage like today might bring even bigger gaps tomorrow.
On the other hand Tinkoff has the stronger team than Cerne here and so the pace might be lower then.
We`ll see. |

Thanks for the words, every race matters I probably do save a bit more for the really big ones but I enjoy all the racing really. Stage two turned out to be a pretty key one so needed some reporting - I reported on a number of races that Ignatiev won last year so to see him lose out was quite something.
I reckon this race was pretty open before the crash anyway, last year Ignatiev was streets ahead of the time trialling competition in races like these. This year Boom, Reus, Larsson (who wasn't used for races like this), Koren etc. are going to be much closer.
I will be posting the queen stage tomorrow morning before I go to work. Monday night I am busy so stage 4 and 5 shall be posted on Tuesday.

I have to admit that LLS's chances are higher now, with Ignatiev practically out of contention, though I won't consider him the main contender for the overall just yet. The next stage to Alto do Malhão has the potential to be decisive, but it can also make no differences between the favourites, which would pretty much make my man innocuous in the final TT.
Let's see what's in store for stage 3.

To win, Sanchez needs to get a gap. Reus is the obvious favorite now. I still think the TT will be the deciding factor. I have a sneaking suspicion that the next stage will be very similar to stage 2, in that a big group arrives at the same time.

Ah that was not quite as we had planned. I was hoping that Elijzen could hold on. Ah well hopefully De Greef can get a top 20 and Elijzen can save energy for the TT.

I stand corrected
A top 5 should still be possible, though 6h might be more realistic. A stage win is still on the agenda.

Another brave breakaway from us, Nordhaug doing well, a shame he couldn't hold on.
Roux was no good, definitely bad, he should have been in the very front group, fighting for the stage win. Now my hopes are Larsson can move himself inside top 10. Nordhaug will probably fade to 12th-15th on the TT, but I won't mind him having the TT of his life, holding on to a top 10 overall, highly unlikely though. LL Sanchez should take it now, but Boom should go close, I'll suspect both managers are happy anyway, congratulations! |

I don't remeber Sanchez TT stat, but I say Boom are favorite now, I was sitting here pretty much yelling at Reus "Do not give Boom time!" and he did Still, podium should be possible

Wow! De Greef riding out of his skin there! Hopefully his decent TT can keep him in a top 15 placing.

Alright I've gone through the top 20 on GC and put their TT skills in a table. I hope people find this useful/interesting for speculating on possible overall results.
EDIT: Got it wrong, fixed it now.

Pellizotti didn't delivered enough to get a good GC placement out of this race. With some luck he will get a top 10 in the end. Our focus now will be to keep on to the Points and Youth jersey, and get a couple of good placements on the last two stages.

You've got the stage results CountArach, not the GC
And I think 27 seconds should be enough for LL Sanchez. I think the big question will be whether Koren, Kreus or Kiryenka could grab Weening's 3rd place. I doubt that too, but never say never. |

Nice one Boom. Probably a very good daily form.
I am also afraid of the time gap to Sanchez. The 19s gap was too much.
Just hold on the 2nd now and with a bit of luck also Hermans or Kunitski can get a top10, otherwise both in top15, what is pretty awesome.
Worst thing on this stage was the big and dangerous breakaway. I would have never let them go away.
And even worse for Tinkoff, that Ignatiev seems pretty much injured, so even the stage win is questionable.

stage 1: good & unexpected podium place for Dumoulin in sprint
stage 2: my captain is waiting for sprinter with no chance in GC when he is being dropped...I can count myself as another victim of (sometimes) ridiculously stupid AI
stage 3: much harder profile than I expected, Van Goolen with still good chance to sneak into TOP10 overall
summary: not a big failure so far, but I hoped for much more from my team

I think Kiryenka could do it, or at least there is an outside chance.

It's funny, I feel the gap is too short
Anyway it was a great stage. I'm happy that LLS did what he had to do, winning the stage and gaping his main rivals. However I'd be a lot more happier if Weening could outsprint Boom.
Now we'll just have to wait until the last stage. I hope the 27 seconds prove to be too large of a margin and that the 16km prove to be too short of a distance for Boom. Either way I believe the difference is just enough to make that last TT as exciting as it possibly could.
