A very pleasing performance and Mori is really having a nice start to the year as he has been good everywhere he has been. Mori did a lot of work there and gained a really well deserved win, this was an awesome Carrara Tachira type win for me as the others in the break did nothing.
Was probably a big advantage for my team that Impey didn't win the first stage which enabled a breakaway win here. I guess that means Jayco Red Bull are on chasing duty shouldn't be too much of a problem on stage 3.

A great start to this race for Jayco - Red Bull, if they continue like this, promotion will no doubt become more than a dream for Smowz
Though, there's still lot of racing left, and Bellis should still be the favourite for the overall, will be interesting to follow. And great reporting mb2612, looking forward to the continuation. |

That was a really great report, usually you can tell midway through whether the break will be staying clear or not, but in this report, I really didn't know what would happen.
Shikai looked strong in the break today, but he was never going to contest with Mori.
Also Itami looks good for the Lanterne Rouge.

Well I'm happy about 3rd stage, obviously Congrats to Partridge.. a well deserved win since he waited for Gate...
..seems like the favourites do not fear this two.. Partridge can do some damage now, maybe. Gate won't But it's nice to see him finishing 2nd today. Very nice day for Oz Cycling.

Whilst it is a bit disappointing to lose the jersey in that way and a possible sprinting chance for Impey - it was also a sprinting chance for Bellis also so not necessarily horrible tactics.
Also Rapha Condor have a bit of a dilemma as we head into the medium hilly stage 4 and 5 whether to protect what they have on GC. I suspect it is time for Bianchi to make their presence felt after some wheelsucking in the first few stages.
Stage 4 does look fairly tricky I wonder whether Gate and Patridge will stuggle to hang on.

This stage looks too difficult for Gate imo. I hope he proves me wrong though..

Unfortunately.. he didn't.. good job by Partridge defending his lead.. this stage was pretty much what I expected: several attacks and the peloton splitting into several smaller groups. Now it's time for another breakaway with Oz Cycling, mb2612

Jayco failed pretty much today. Would have been a great chance to win the stage and get back the overall... |

Firstly it's irratating that Bellis managed to take the win, I get the impression from the report though that Impey didn't win because he was blocked. That aint stupidity that is unlucky.
Actually fairly good work by Jayco Red Bull to gain time with six riders whilst simultenously leaving Rapha Condor with a leadership question, they sort of answered it by leaving Partridge behind though.
Of course I knew Impey was not going to win the stage after the comment 'Impey will surely win the stage now' toward the end. I am wondering whether the false predictions will remain consistent, in which case after being called stupid for two stages in succession the well placed Red Bull sextet may upset the true favourites for the race in Bellis and Monfort.
What does concern me going into stages 5 and 6 is my teams lack of ability to attack with the favourites when they go as former rider Augustyn seems to be doing.

it´s irritating for me to see, how other promotion contenders share tons of points in poorly taken races again, again and again

By the way enjoyed the use of the word 'dichotomy' in the report now there is a word I don't think I have heard or seen used once in my lifetime and I am from the South of England!

At the end of the day, it was a great stage for Jayco - Red Bull, at least in my eyes, having 6 guys in the first group, giving them 6 riders in top 15 on overall. That's a lot of points, and an extremely good use of their race days.
Smowz has really got off to a great start for his team, pointwise, and in my eyes, they've done a lot better than expected. I'm even starting to believe they might be the team to beat for the overall. But it really depends on how many points they can grab in races where the competition is tougher, but no doubt, a great start! |

, it's a word I heard once and really liked, so I use it far more than necessary.
As far as predictions go, I write as I watch so any foreshadowing, or false predictions, are entirely coincidental. That said, we will see more Red Bull tactics as the race continues.

Nice to see Pires launching himself in late attacks, even though they weren't efficient. I just wished the rest of my guys could join a break once in a while, given that neither Biondo nor Santos can seem to have any chance at the final sprints.
And keep up the good reports mb. I find them very easy to read through, which makes it very pleasant to follow the time line of the happenings of the stage.
