EA-Sony Ericsson (2011)
cunego59
Some nice very nice results there, congrats! Kessiakoff has a great early shape.

laidbackmarc
Great results for Kessiakoff. I am also happy with the sponsor placement on the shirt since I didn't skewed the logos. The screen on Kessiakoff attacking and winning on stage 2 looked very good Wink I hope to see more of them in the future.

@cunego59: His shape is what might be his only edge throughout this tour. Because he is on par with the other climbers Wink

@laidbackmarc: Yeah the jersey looks great (Especially when you can see the full thing with our riders arms in the air Smile) But could you possible move up the best buy logo on the back because half of it gets blocked off by the rider's number. Wink If not it's still a great jersey.

Next report will be later today, some more climbs. Shock

Tour de San Luis - Stage 5

January 21, 2011

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/Profile-4.jpg

Only classified as hilly stage the climb at the end should provide gaps even if the narrow roads don't.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/Breakaway1.jpg

Jimmy Lincina makes the effort to be part of the morning breakaway, but the peloton isn't letting anything go with more than 5 riders.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/Breakaway2.jpg

So after a number of failed attempts the peloton was going to pass through the first sprint point without anybody in front of them.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/SprintPoint1-2.jpg

So Jake Keough jumps out front at the last second and picks up a few sprint points, and a little extra cash. (We told him he could take some of the money and have a steak dinner after the race.)

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/1kmtogo-2.jpg

Eventually a three man breakaway got away, including Lithuanian RR Champ Vytautas Kaupas.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/SprintPoint2-2.jpg

They still hold a 3 minute lead 20kms from the finish at the second sprint point.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/Climb.jpg

And at the mountain check at the very start of the climb their lead is down to about a minute. Surely they will be caught.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/CostaAttack.jpg

Rui Costa launches the first attack as expected. Kessiakoff tries to counter but is blocked in my the Movistar riders setting the tempo at the front on the narrow mountain road. It is a reverse effect of what happen on stage 2.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/KessiakoffCounter.jpg

Kessiakoff is slowly closing down the gap, but 3rd in GC Eduard Vorganov luanches another attack up by Costa. In the process they wipeout the breakaway riders.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/Breakaway3.jpg

With 1km to go Eduard Vorganov has opened up a gap on Costa while Kessiakoff is now struggling to keep up.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/Finish-3.jpg

And Vorganov is the best climber today, Costa takes 2nd, and David López beats Fredrik for 3rd. Time is made out between each of the riders but Kessiakoff stays in yellow but his lead has shrank to 31 seconds.

Interview - Fredrik Kessiakoff

Q: You have only been part of this team for a couple of weeks and you have already added your name to their history books by being the third rider next to Lofkvist and Larsson to record numerous days wearing a leader's jersey for a tour, Congrats.
A: Well I'm here just doing my job and anything extra like this really provides a nice moral boost, but it is really surprising that only the Sweds have been able to wear the yellow jerseys, very intresting stat.

Tour de San Luis - Stage 6

January 22, 2011

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/Profile-5.jpg

Everything comes down to this stage. Kessiakoff has to defend yellow, and King of the Mountains will most likely will be decided with all the points available today. That being said look for a EA-Sony rider in the breakaway to collect as many points as possible to keep Electronic Arts happy with our performance.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/KoM1.jpg

And it's the Irishman Philip Deignan that makes the breakaway and collects 6 points at the first climb, giving him a total of 12.

The peloton is willing to let this group go, with Deignan the best placed GC rider 10'38'' behind Kessiakoff.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/KoM2.jpg

Deignan takes 3rd on top of second climb for 10 points. But in bigger news the peloton doesn't even have the desire to chase and they are out front by 11 minutes. Deignan has virtually yellow, surely the peloton will do something now.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/Sprint1.jpg

At the sprint point the peloton has reacted taking 3 minutes out of their lead as the riders face a long flat section before the final climb.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/Sprint2.jpg

The breakaway still has a 4 minute lead as we complete the flat section marked by another sprint point which Deignan wins.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/Climb2-1.jpg

With the peloton closing the gap fast Deignan attacks very early on the climb.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/Climb3.jpg

It doesn't take long for the peloton to split into small groups. And Deignan is caught by the front group with all the favourites including Kessiakoff 5kms from the top. Now all the eyes where on who was going to make the first attack.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/KoM3.jpg

The ride 3kms without an attack until Kessiakoff takes things into his own hands wanting to take the 16 KoM points on top of the climb which would put he first in that competition. And he is followed by current KoM leader Eduard Vorganov.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/5kmtogo-1.jpg

Fredrik takes first on the climb, and now starts riding away. The only problem is he has a empty water bottle as it was until able to be full before we started the climb.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/1kmtogo-3.jpg

But he pushes onward. With a kilometer go the road is filling up with spectators. Kessiakoff is having problems hearing us over the radio ... which is probably a good thing as all we were doing was cheering as well.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/Finish-4.jpg

Kessiakoff raises his arms in the air and celebrates his 2nd stage win of the year, and if everything goes normal tomorrow he will also take home EA-Sony's first tour win of the year as well. A job well done!

Interview - Fredrik Kessiakoff

Q: You are becoming a natural at this after race interviews, great win today. How does it feel?
A: It makes me feel proud in the team I'm surrounded by, today's win goes out to my teammates. Hats off to Deignan who spent the whole day in the breakaway, and to personal protector Peterson for keeping me out of trouble all day long.

If you could possible make transfers, that would be very nice and helpful as well. Smile

Tour de San Luis - Stage 7

January 23, 2011

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/Profile-6.jpg

The final stage should provide action right at the start with the early mountain sprint, and finish with a big bunch sprint. Kessiakoff just has to stay out of trouble and the tour will be his to put on his resume.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/KoM-1.jpg

Great news for Kessiakoff as the morning breakaway pass through the KoM check point, meaning Kessiakoff secures our first goal of the season. Our focus now turns to not letting this breakaway get away.

At the most the BOTD gets 8 minutes but they are all brought back just in time for the bunch sprint.

Oscar Gatto leads the way with 2kms to go, Saur - Sojasun sprint train is down to men along with Colnago - CSF Inox. Jimmy Casper and Sacha Modolo are going to have make their move soon.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Tour%20de%20San%20Luis/Sprint2-1.jpg

Gatto is losing steem, Casper is in perfect position for his second stage win of the year.

But wait, Modolo comes out of a cannon. Casper looks over and has to kick again.

It's going to be close ... (Oh, and Keough gets blocked by the men pulling off at the front. He manages 23rd for his efforts.)

Casper fights back and takes Modolo on the line. Great win for him. And Fredrik Kessiakoff stays out of trouble and brings home EA-Sony's 8th total GC win in the history of the team.

Interview - Fredrik Kessiakoff

Q: Congrats on your win, where can we see you race next?
A: Thank you, and everyone can see me again in the teams next race at Giro della Calabria. And I have been doing my history and found out that they have shorten the race by 1 stage to 3 this year for last years version. Also their hill be more hills so we should get a better finish than Deignan 19th from last year as well.

Giro della Calabria - Stage 1

Our Riders

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Riders.jpg

After a great start in our first race we hope for the same results bring a strong squad here in Italy. Today will mark the start of the season for Swedish RR Champ Lofkvist, Irishman Danny Martin,
and now developed climber Andrew Talansky.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/LofkvistFlat.jpg

Lofkvist gets some early face time as he suffers a flat tire, but don't worry he makes his way back into the peloton,
who continue to pull back the breakaways.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Sprint1.jpg

Until, this 4 man breakaway gets away halfway through the stage.
Including young prospect Talansky.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Sprint2.jpg

Now at the second to last time check
the peloton still has no interest to chase them.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Sprint3.jpg

At the final sprint they lead by 12 minutes! I should probably mention their names now becuase they are going to be battling it out between themselves for today's win. Alessandro Bazzana, Tomasz Lisowicz, Kristjan Fajt, and ofcourse Andrew Talansky.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/10kmtogo.jpg

Lisowicz goes off solo with 15kms to go. And Talansky is the only one who tries to counter, but he is gone.
They well have to work together if they want to see him again.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/5kmtogo.jpg

Now with 5kms to go, Lisowicz holds a 30 second gap to Talansky and Kristjan Fajt. Alessandro Bazzana is struggling to keep up.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/LofkvistAttack.jpg

About 10 minutes back the peloton finally reaches the climb. Lofkvist makes a strong move off the front, while Kessiakoff follows right behind.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Finish1.jpg

But today belongs to this man, Tomasz Lisowicz a great solo victory.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Finish2.jpg

Talansky shows he still has problems with sprints,
but he does manage his best ever career finish - A 3rd.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Finish3.jpg

Lofkvist takes 5th, +7'38. And Kessiakoff follows right behind in 6th but 13 seconds later. But their loses don't end their as you also have to count up all the time bonifications as well. All in all a great day for Talansky, but it's a shame the time gaps had to be so larger.

Interview - Andrew Talansky

Q: Talk about making your present felt, after all the disappointments of last year you come out on your first stage in 2011 and get on the podium. Where did this come from?
A: A lot of work in the off-season, but I can't take all the credit for today's result because it was the team that let the breakaway get free and I probably took a win away from either Lofkvist or Kessiakoff. So hopefully in the next two stages I can outclimb Lisowicz and prevent this tour from being a "what could of been" result.

This is how the real Talansky performs. Cool

fanny pherramist
Kessiakoff well until the last day, where a large Talansky has shone as the future star he is.

Great story, lots of encouragement and good luck!

Giro della Calabria - Stage 2

January 29, 2011

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Profile-1.jpg

This stage should be split into three parts - the breakaway, top puncheurs attacking, and the fight between yesturday's breakaway riders to take yellow away from Lisowicz.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/KoM1.jpg

As expected we do get a breakaway clear before we reach the first mountain point, they are Alessandro Spezialetti, Davide Ricci Bitti, and Laurent Beuret.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/SprintPoint.jpg

At the sprint point before the crucial climb they are still out front by 6 minutes. We could possible be looking at another successful breakaway.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Chase.jpg

Deignan, Peterson, and Martin are doing a lot of work on the front since everyone else is content to let them go.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Climb1.jpg

Kessiakoff attacks as we reach the start of the climb, Mauro Finetto is the only one to counter his move.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Climb2.jpg

Lofkvist leads this next assault against the peloton. Kessiakoff is slowly reaching the breakaway riders.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Climb3.jpg

With Lofkvist in the clear, Peterson-Deignan-Martin all decide to jump out in front of the peloton and create their own group. Talansky also tries to make the jump but doesn't have the power in his legs after his long ride yesturday. But good news for him as Tomasz Lisowicz decides not to leave the main peloton either.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Climb4.jpg

Kessiakoff moves into the lead just after the top of the climb ...

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/10kmtogo-1.jpg

With 10km to go it is already clear he will win the stage, but it is the time that is going to be important. So he continues to push hard.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/1kmtogo1.jpg

Here is quick overview of the road with 1km to go for Kessiakoff.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/1kmtogo2.jpg

Finetto catches breakaway men Spezialetti and Beuret around 2 minutes later. Davide Ricci Bitti has hit the wall and is nowhere to be found after being part of this breakaway today.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/1kmtogo3.jpg

Lofkvist is 20 seconds in front of the EA-Sony trio group who attract alot of the other strong climbers. They where seen about 3'30'' later from when Kessiakoff passed through.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Finish1-1.jpg

Speaking of Kessiakoff lets get back to this man, who gets another stage victory in his brief time here so far. What a pick-up this man was in the offseason.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Finish2-1.jpg

Lofkvist also has a great ride today and finishes 5th, but surprisingly 3'43'' behind that of Kessiakoff.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Finish3-1.jpg

But the really time everyone wanted to know was how far back was Lisowicz and Talansky. They stop the clock in the same group at ... + 6'57. Meaning Lisowicz keeps yellow, Kessiakoff moves into 2nd just + 1'03 back, and EA-Sony will head into the last stage with 4 riders in the top 10.

Interview - Fredrik Kessiakoff

Q: What are the chances you will be walking away with your 2nd GC win when tomorrow's stage is complete?
A: I'm going to go with 50/50. It all depends on if the last climb causes any gaps, and if those gaps are pulled back before the finish. Sure you may say that sounds silly, but the climb comes right in the middle of the stage so it is very possible Lisowicz could come back on the flat heading towards the finish.

A bit late, still: Congrats to your San Luis performance. Strong presentation in Italy as well.

The reports and the look of the story are really high quality, keep it up!

@GreenEDGEFan: Thanks for the support, hope you continue to read. Grin

@cunego59: Better late than never Wink And it took a while but I finally found a way to make my reports look good but more importantly don't take that long to write. Glad you like it.

Giro della Calabria - Stage 3

January 30, 2011

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Profile-2.jpg

The final stage features a lot of undulations at the start but once you get pass the final climb it is a flat 35kms heading in towards the finish. So it is very possible we could see a select bunch sprint to finish the tour.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/SprintPoint1.jpg

Or perhaps a breakaway may prove to be strong enough to steal the headlines.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/SprintPoint2.jpg

At the last sprint point before the climb they still lead by 4 minutes.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/RoundaboutFall.jpg

A tight roundabout before he hit the climb causes a breakaway man to go down, the peloton takes notice of a poor course design and make it through without a massive crash.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/LofkvistAttack-1.jpg

The first rider to jump off the front is Swedish Road Champion Thomas Lofkvist.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/KessiakoffAttack.jpg

A few minutes later Kessiakoff decides to chase after his teammate. Surprisingly no one wants to counter.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Climb1-1.jpg

Lofkvist reaches the breakaway right before the summit. Kessiakoff is two minutes back.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Climb2-1.jpg

Lofkvist slows down on the downhill section to pickup Kessiakoff.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/WorkingTogether.jpg

The duo is out front by 3 minutes ahead of a select group of climbers. Lisowicz is in that group, but for some odd reason Talansky, Peterson, Deignan, and Martin were all caught sleeping when the split happen and now are forced to chase in groups behind.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/10kmtogo-2.jpg

20kms later the chasing group has cut only a minute from Lofkvist and Kessiakoff lead, but the other EA-Sony riders realize they missed the move today and won't have enough time to catch back up.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/1kmtogo.jpg

And more bad news, the Lisowicz group catchs Thomas and Fredrik with 2kms to go. Kessiakoff will have to settle with a 2nd overall.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Finish.jpg

Today's winner is Mauro Finetto from Liquigas - Cannondale, followed by Marco Marcato and 3rd to Stefan Schumacher. Kessiakoff comes in 16th, with Lofkvist right behind him in 17th. Even though Kessiakoff comes up short here in Italy, just a glance at the overall table and you can say EA-Sony didn't have a poor tour at all. And it will have to be team consistency that gives us a chance at promotion this year.

Interview - Andrew Talansky

Q: Where were you and the rest of the team when the split happen up front on the final climb?
A: I honestly don't know. I will have to watch the type when I get back to the bus. From what recall everything was going great and we were getting fed the time gaps over the team radio, and when I look up Lisowicz was gone.

Note: I'm putting this on hold for now as I want to get back to my other story. So I will start back up again when I complete my Andy Schleck story Quest For History.

And thanks for all the support, I would have never thought I would reach 1,000 post when I found this site over a year ago.

Vuelta a Mallorca - Stage 1

February 6, 2011

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Vuelta%20a%20Mallorca/Profile.jpg

Our Riders

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Vuelta%20a%20Mallorca/Riders.jpg

The 2010 Vuelta a Mallorca will always be remembered for Philip Deignan's downhill attack to win EA-Sony's 1st stage. But this year we have higher hopes, to win GC.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Vuelta%20a%20Mallorca/Sprint1.jpg

GC isn't going to be tested today though as an easy flat stage starts the tour. So we will fast forward to the bunch sprint finish, where we have finally put together a nice sprint train.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Vuelta%20a%20Mallorca/Sprint2.jpg

Taylor Phinney pulls off, leaving Pichot, Lofvkist, Hayman, and our sprinter for this tour Jake Keough.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Vuelta%20a%20Mallorca/Sprint3.jpg

As we near the finish, Keough is going to have to make up some ground ...

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Vuelta%20a%20Mallorca/Finish.jpg

But it's to late as Koldo Fernández takes the stage from a late burst of speed, beating Robert Hayles who had a great leadout from his team Endura Racing. Jake Keogh holds his ground and finishes 8th, not great but a good place to build on.

Interview - Jake Keough

Q: You looked good 6kms out, what happened in those last kms?
A: We just didn't have enough speed built up to catch the Endora train, so we will take a look at the sprint train order and perhaps change it up for tomorrow's stage.
