I'm a big Samu fan but his descending skills can even be compared with the ones that had the greatest one in this terrain: Paolo Savoldelli. I will never forget when he was with Discovery, went to the Giro without a decent team and won it in the descents. It was incredible.

Savodelli was still something else. That guy was hors categorie! but i must agree that SS is one of the best of the peloton.

I really see Sanchez as a candidate for podium finish. Until now, he was actually the best in the mountains stage. And his TT ability is very underrated. Last year on the final TT he was just 8s behind Contador and 23s faster than Andy Schleck. |

i agree he may be a candidate for the podium but until now the others just let him go because he was behind in the gc i dont think it will be this easy for him in the alps to get an advantage |

Hi
Do you think that today Contador will try an attack on Sestrieres?
46 descending kms with 1500+ meters slope, if Andy downhill like yesterday he could lose a lot of minutes.

Let him go? It more looked like Andy could respond to first attack on de Beille, but couldn't to second. And on Ardiden Samu actually attacked on flat part before the actual mountain started and Leopard & Saxo tried to catch that group, which consisted of Samu, Gilbert, Vanendert, Trofimov etc. |

I'd say no chance. The downhill is not very steep. And the downhill isn't really technical at all.
Here you can see a profile of the downhill.

Schleck's whining yesterday was not so much a question of sour grapes as a whole sour vineyard.
Andy basically wants a Tour with 21 summit finishes so he can win the whole thing by 42 seconds.

JF Pescheux is brilliant, responding to Frandys critisms of todays descent he said "they can't say they lost the tour because of a descent, they should have attacked on Super Besse, Tourmalet etc."
There's no point slapping a schleck - Sean Kelly on "Who needs a slap"

I think that if you have like 8 guys in the group, nobody wants to be the one who catches Samu and then the rest could just counter-attack. In both stages Samu picked right moments to attack. |

I wasn't really talking about the last downhill, only the one from Sestriere, as that was the one he was talking about. But from what I know the last downhill is the total opposite of the one from Sestriere, it's steep and technical. If the Schlecks has lost time on the top they could lose more time in the last 8 towards Pinerolo.

With so many teams still hoping for a stage win the group aren't being given too much room. They've not even established a lead bigger than 45 seconds and they've been out there for a while now.
Quick Step, Shack, AG2R, Liquigas, Cofidis, Katusha, Lampre, Vacansoleil all want to be in there. |
