Team Cofidis on the road to Pro tour status.

Millar Banana

Never mind he can't climb, so you'll get him next stage. I'm doing the same Tour now. Really boring apart from those two stages in the middle.

EDIT: 100th post, this calls for yet more bananas BananaBananaBanana

Sorry

5th Stage: Tapah – Genting Highlands (124.3km/Mountain)

img691.imageshack.us/img691/4931/stage5r.jpg

Race Estimation:
The stage is completely flat until the last climb which is about 18 kilometers long. The pace should be high, because of the shortness of the stage, so we won't go into a breakaway group. If everything goes fine Taaramae should be able to keep up with the favorites.
Race Report:
Again an attack right after the start. A big breakaway group of 9 riders is able to make a gap of about 1 minute. 4 more riders are able to join that group. After the first sprint the group has been caught by the peleton which is lead by 'Garmin – Cervélo' with David Millar in the leaders jersey. After the breakaway was caught the pace drops, so we decide against our plans to attack with Dumoulin. Considering that he won't be able to stay with the best in the final climb, he will now be able to collect some more points for the sprinter's jersey. Effectively he is able to win the two sprints and is now leader in the sprinters jersey ranking. Apart from Dumoulin there is a second breakaway group of 4 riders one minute behind him and 2 minutes in front of the pack. They shouldn't be able to resist in the final climb. After the attack from Dumoulin, it was 'Garmin – Cervélo' and 'Astana' making the pace for the peleton. On the foot of the last climb only Dumoulin is about 40 seconds in front of the peleton and he has to resign after 2 kilometers. The pack which was complete at the foot of the mountain is now shrinking to 27 riders due to the high pace of 'Garmin – Cervélo' and 'Astana'. Iglinsky is presumably in a great shape, otherwise 'Astana' wouldn't pace that high. 5 kilomters to go: Very unexpected, David Millar is situated in the second half of the peleton which will shortly rupture in the middle. This is our chance Taaramae who is on the second position attacks 3.5 kilometers before the finish line. Iglinsky and Morabito are able to follow but can't close up and a group of three riders finds together when Possoni closes up with them. Rein enters the sprint(at 1.5km to go) with 20'' advantage, it looks good for him. He gives all in the sprint, because he knows that a win today is normally also the victory of the tour. The camara is focused on the finish line, which is situated after a 180 degrees turn. Let's hope the first jersey we can see is red with a sun on it... Extremely nice finish by Taaramae; he wins the stage in front Possoni, Iglinsky and Morabito. Unfortunately Iglinsky is now 2 points in front of Dumoulin in the points ranking, but we will surely be able to collect some more points on the upcoming sprinter stages.

6th Stage: Rawang – Putrajaya Loop (139.3km/Flat)

img40.imageshack.us/img40/6132/stage6e.jpg

Race Estimation:
The stage should end in a sprint. Probabely a chance for Dumoulin to collect some points for the points ranking.
Race Report:
Three kilometers after the start several attacks and breakaways take place. Eventually a group of 12 riders forms the breakaway group of the day. 'Farnese - Vini' and 'Endura Racing' are doing the pace for the pack. Both teams have with Guardini (Farnese - Vini) and Blain (Endura Racing) two good sprinters so they don't want to give the breakaway a great advantage. 80Km to go: 6 riders are able to join the breakaway group so they are now 18. As a reaction to the strong breakaway group several teams are now making the pace. Good for us, so we won't have to do. The peloton catches the escabies 49 kilometers before the finish line. Now it's our turn to make the pace. Not too high and not too low, just high enough to avoid attacks. The final is approaching and our train Taaramae-Demaret-Dumoulin works well and is situated in the top position. Unfortunately Demaret isn't able to follow the pace of Taaramae and it's too late to take another wheel. Dumoulin has to start sprinting 3 km to go and finshes 17th. Pietropoli can win the stage and Iglinsky finishes second which is bad for us. Once because Dumoulin is now 22 points behind in points ranking and second because Iglinsky's deficit shrunk to 27 seconds on Taaramae in the overall ranking.

7th Stage: Banting – Tampin (165.3km/Flat)

img819.imageshack.us/img819/4199/stage7.jpg

First off I've got some great news! I use now a different software for the screenshots which should have solved the problem. So I will post screenshots for every race from now on!

Race Estimation:
Flat. Mass Sprint. No Attack from our side. I guess there's nothing more to say for this type of stages.

Race Report:

img155.imageshack.us/img155/2825/pcm2011072022264849.png

Taaramae in his yellow jersey.

There are several attacks, but we keep the pace high, so Dumoulin can sprint out of the peloton for the intermediate sprint.

img402.imageshack.us/img402/7443/pcm2011072022315062.png

El Fares pulls the sprint for Dumoulin. None else is sprinting out of the peloton.

img35.imageshack.us/img35/863/pcm2011072022321866.png

Dumoulin wins the first of three intermediate sprints. El Fares becomes second.

img35.imageshack.us/img35/9224/pcm2011072022334798.png

Kriit and Saramotins are pacing up to avoid other attacks until the second intermediate sprint. Dumoulin becomes second this time.

img801.imageshack.us/img801/3567/pcm2011072022401726.png

Cummings and Irizar are 1'49'' ahead 20 kilometers before the finish line.

'Endura Racing' and 'Farnese – Vini' are making the pace for their sprinters Blain (Endura Racing) and Guardini (Farnese – Vini).

img19.imageshack.us/img19/8323/pcm2011072022430373.png

Our sprint train is in front of the peloton and Demaret launches the sprint 3km to go. Unfortunately Demaret and Dumoulin are in a bad shape, so they can't keep up with the other sprinters.

8th Stage: Kuala Pilah – Jasin (165.7km/Flat)

img850.imageshack.us/img850/2162/stage8.jpg

Race Estimation:
We won't allow Morczynski in a breakaway to avoid unnecessary danger of Taaramaes KoM-jersey.
Depending on Dumoulins form and the advantage of the breakaway group, we will pace high so that Samuel (Dumoulin) can sprint for the two intermediate sprint of this stage. The last 40 kilometers are quite flat, but the 30 kilometers before are hilly. We have to protect our sprinters on this stage very carefully to avoid greater loss of energy on the hilly parts.

Race Report:

img801.imageshack.us/img801/6301/pcm2011072023354988.png

At the beginning of the stage several attacks lead to the formation of a sixteen-headed breakaway group. Who else than 'Farnese – Vini' and 'Endura Racing' would be making the pace ?

img35.imageshack.us/img35/6430/pcm2011072023365608.png

After a few kilometers 'Farnese – Vini' stops doing the work, so we join the riders of 'Endura Racing'.

img713.imageshack.us/img713/9449/pcm2011072023393705.png

We are able to catch the breakaway group before the first intermediate sprint. El Fares is launching the sprint for Dumoulin.

img851.imageshack.us/img851/8608/pcm2011072023395959.png

Dumoulin becomes second after Blain (Endura Racing). Not good for us, since Blain is also a rival of Dumoulin for the sprinter's jersey.

img839.imageshack.us/img839/5528/pcm2011072023461205.png

Five men attack after the second intermediate sprint(where Dumoulin becomes 4th): Stannard (Sky), Houle (SpiderTech), Irizar (Radioshack), Sergent (Radioshack) and Ostergaard (Glud & M).

img21.imageshack.us/img21/5871/pcm2011072023490251.png

29km to go: The breakaway group has an advantage of 3'38'' which is quite promising.

img694.imageshack.us/img694/9532/pcm2011072023503692.png

The high pace of 'Endura Racing' and 'Farnese – Vini' makes the escabies surrender at 12 kilometers to go.

img707.imageshack.us/img707/4033/pcm2011072023525179.png

The sprint train of 'Farnese – Vini' (left) is several meters ahead. Our train (right) works fine aswell, unfortunately Demaret isn't able to bring Dumoulin in a good position.

img836.imageshack.us/img836/8598/pcm2011072023535714.png

Iglinsky wins the stage out of the mass sprint which isn't good for Dumoulin. He can now forget about the ponits ranking. Also Taaramae is now only 7 seconds in front of Iglinsky in the general rankings due to the time bonification of 20 seconds.

Stage Ranking:

1 Iglinsky 4h07'32''
2 Bertogliati s.t.
3 Ferero Carreno s.t.
4 Guardini s.t.
5 Keough s.t.
6 Downing s.t.
7 Dumoulin s.t.
.
.
.
16 Blain s.t.
.
.
.
37 Taaramae s.t.

Since nothing has changed in any ranking (at least nothing of importance except the Iglinsky thing), I will not post the rankings again. Iglinsky has the green jersey for sure now!

9th Stage: Melaka – Nilai (146km/Flat)

img40.imageshack.us/img40/8669/stage9.jpg

Race Estimation:
The mountain jersey is sure for Taaramae, so we don't need to care about this anymore. If there is a breakaway, we won't make any effort to catch it, because if three riders pass the line before the peloton Iglinsky can't get any bonus seconds. If it comes toa mass sprint we will sprint as usual.

Race Report:
The race starts with some attacks, but all of them were unsuccessful, because of the hard work of several teams.

img18.imageshack.us/img18/5840/pcm2011072102234808.png

The break of the day is very late today. Only 71 kilometers to go and Stannard (Sky), Cussidy (Ana Pest), Irizar (Radioshack) and Nielsen (Glud & M) are the four men ahead. Irizar and Stannard are already the fourth or third time in a breakaway for this tour.

img32.imageshack.us/img32/7194/pcm2011072102253866.png

At 52.6km to go, the escabies have already 7'09'' on the peloton. At this time the peloton surrenders.

img837.imageshack.us/img837/5720/pcm2011072102262747.png

We decide to take advantage of this situation and attack with Saramotins who is able to make a maximum break of about 6 minutes to the peloton.

img12.imageshack.us/img12/9757/pcm2011072102321840.png

In the final the peloton accelerates and the gap shrinks by every second. Saramotins is able to resist and crosses the line wih an advantage of 96 seconds ahead. The winner of this stage is an Irishman from team 'Ana Pest': Cussidy. Nielsen finishes second and Irizar gets bronze.

img64.imageshack.us/img64/3703/pcm2011072102331866.png

Our sprint train fails again and Downing wins the sprint out of the peloton. I was probably too early when I said Iglinsky is surely the winner of the points ranking. It will be decided on the last stage. If Iglinsky doesn't finish on the podium on the last stage, Taaramae will be the winner of all categories except points.

Stage Ranking:
1 Cussidy 3h38'49''
2 Nielsen s.t.
3 Irizar s.t.
4 Stannard s.t
