Ahh thats to bad, because he has the speed to win i think. Who knows
Hagen to me proved all this year that he is just below top sprinters but when the going gets tough he is up there with Goss, Rojas and Hushovd
and swift seems to be the man Sky lead out atm. Stage 16 though looks suited for him if he can get over the climb.

Have to disagree. He was out for major part of spring season and when he came back he won his first sprint at Bayern Rundfhart and bagging podiums. At Dauphine he was unlucky with the puncture before sprint. Then Tour was next. Swift shown much more because he wasnt injured so much, Hagen is as fast as Swift with right form which he looks to have. Swift has much bigger potential to be great sprinter in couple of years though and this Tour experience will help him a lot. Right now I think the decision who will be final sprinter will depend who will feel better on the day, as both are very similarly fast, we just coulndt see it often this season, plagued by injuries.

Sorry i don't get the point your trying to disagree with me on?:/
As i didn't say Swift was Faster then EBH i just said Sky seemed to be sprinting for Swift
I think it most be the just below top sprinter thing which i definatly think he is he has the same speed as Goss in my opinion and i see them as 3rd - 10th place riders in bunch sprints just not at the top like Cav, Farrar and when he's firing Pettachi

The disagree part is about Sky spriting for Swift. In video interview Swifty said that he is domestique on the team and isnt the final sprinter. That might change on how he feels on the day, but for me it looks like Hagen is the man they protect and work for the final straight. We'll learn tomorrow I guess.

Ohh now i get it and I thought the only reason they took swift was because of the sprints and that surely if they would have needed a domestique Standard was a much better option?

I agree with that. Stannard would be much better option but I think Swifty will get more by completing this TDF and should gain lots of confidence. Also he will play key role in lead out on flatter stages and on good day I am sure he will go for sprint as the main sprinter. Swift not bad domestique either

Well, in the video interviews I've seen Swifty has confirmed that he is the sprinter for some stages.
Here's his Stage 3 review @ 30 secs
"Plan was for me to go for the sprint. I had Geraint and Edvald looking after me.
They was (sic) doing a fantastic job and was coming up the outside around 1 kilometre to go unfortunately we got put straight into the barriers.
That was the end of that.... Tour de france I guess ....
We'll give it another shot in a few days time."
In other news - here's a look at Johnny "Hooligan" Hoogerland's bike for today.
@GeraintThomas86 Geraint Thomas
More wind and more rain today... So much better than 40degrees!! Let's get it on!!
@mattgoss1986 Matt Goss
Woohoo, rain! No such thing as bad weather just bad clothes!
@swiftybswift Ben Swift
Rain right on time. Another fun day on the cards today.
@TheDPate Danny Pate
Heading out for stage 7 today. Looks like it could be another rainy one. https://lockerz.co...
@StueyOG STUART O'GRADY
Another fun day of X-wind an rain ahead.Prob easier moving the eiffel tower than getting jensy on twitter!Ze Leopard Tank is not real keen
(note jensy = Jens Ulrich who they are trying to get onto twitter).
@MarkCavendish Mark Cavendish
Trying to explain #Twitter to the team directors. Brian Holm thinks it's some sort of game & Rolf Aldag thinks it's a chatroom. #frustrating
For those considering twitter, I would highly recommend you follow Craig Lewis @craiglewis85 - As you will all recall, Craig is recovering from his accident during the Giro - so he's stuck at home.
He has taken to tweeting his thoughts during the race, and it's nice to get his insights IMO.
You can also read them if you don't have twitter by going to: https://tinyurl.co...Edited by Martin_TB on 08-07-2011 11:33

Anything interesting happening today? I hear it should be windy for the last 30km, which would probably neutralize the intermediate sprint from the topsprinters.
