Yep, however, in order to rank managers I have to rank teams, and in order to do that I need to rank the riders.
I'm attempting to do that now, but the numbers aren't working as well as I had hoped ( classic PCM problem of Cunego and Valverde being better sprinters than Boonen.)

I think it was always rjc's (Auber's) strategy to do as well as possible without grand tour GC leaders.
But to really crack the top five surely do need at least some riders to go well in Grand Tours and Monuments! One leader (such as Valverde) clearly isn't enough, you need at least two with a healthy dollop of points from others too in the Protour it seems. Food for thought I guess for teams thinking of raiding Cunego and Valverde in this years transfer season - may well give individual glory but perhaps at the sacrifice of team glory.
You can also understand why Carmuese have transfer listed Popovich and Domina Vacanz are entertaining offers for Nibali both seem to lack strength in depth.
One wonders whether Lafarge would have been relegated if they had not overstepped their wage cap and they would have had an extra leader. I think one thing that mb's analysis shows that overstepping the wage cap and losing a leader will no doubt absolutely kill your season from a team points scoring perspective.
Agreed. And that is basically what we want I think. To punish people enough to make them not do it again. Also it makes a scare picture for other managers, which is good.
