Nibali is a much better descender though, but he won't be able to gain enough time on a downhill to be anywhere close to Contador in the GC. |

Monday and tuesday stages may be the most interesting ones, since there won't end with a climb. So maybe Contador will not be that dominating, and Nibali could try something.
except for the fact that contador is as good a time trialist as a climber so it's not like nibali can just ride off the front without him.
the only way contador will be beaten is if he crashes out of the giro, and technically thats not beating him. Remember Paris-Nice 2010 ? (or was it 2009 ?) Contador had it in the pocket and... just forgot to eat, got a severe hypoglycaemia, and lost the race. It's not over... till it's over. |

Not necessarily that, but anything else could happen. Bad day like most GC leaders usually get at some point, etc. You never know. Of course all the odds are with Contador at the moment (although Nibbles will get this one from the court in a couple of weeks). |

I hope the break will stay away and Nieve doing something similar to Cotobello, in last year's Vuelta.

If the break stays clear, youd have to fancy Nieve's chances of a stage win - depending on his recovery from a good ride up Zoncolon, and whether other strong climbers in the break have been taking it easy in recent stages to target a break such as this.
At least Euskaltel made the break this time, they certainly wont be chasing!

I'm happy as long as Contador isn't winning.

You have to say Euskatel are having a superb Giro here. Just checked the break details, I would suggest that in terms of the GC battle Euskatel are being fairly aggressive. I would estimate that they may well be more successful than Garmin were yesterday on Mt Baldy against Radioshack.
Of course now we will likely see Lampre and Liquigas pulling in the last third of the race - I really hope they at least try something a bit different but I have my doubts. Scarponi may pull his Lampre lot out of a chase and who knows maybe Nibali will try and do something on one of the descents.

It would be, but it's not happening. Liquigas is at the front. |

It's a pity that's Liquigas's second best placed rider on GC is 40+ minutes down and Szmyd has not been feeling great.
They have to chase - they'd get a serious amount of criticism if they didn't even make the podium.... |

Nibali realy needs top form and healthy Szmyd..to try anything against Contador
you can count Yaroslav Popovych as strong breakaway rider..because he sucks last 5 years

Anton must be satisfied that Saxo and Liquigas are doing most of the work! Hopefully he gets +5! |

On the issue of Contador I agree with Aquarius. Although his lead seams unbeatable right now, lots of things could happen.
Contador did not seam as superhuman yesterday as he did the two preceding mountain stages. And the stage today is rather long. Contador usually prefers shorter stages with few climbs.
More unlikely things have happened in this sport. |

no, he simply didn't need to attack yesterday. i think his attacks at the end showed that if he needed to he would have stayed with Anton and attacked him at the end.
contador doesn't need to win every stage by 1.30. all he needs to do for the rest of the giro is sit on Nibali's wheel. thats what he did yesterday.
unless contador crashes out or gets ill he will be on top of the podium next weekend. |

This is the stage I've looked most forward to, if it's possible to say that about mountainstages in the Giro. Hopefully we will have a great battle for the podium, and hopefully they start attacking each other early. |
