He had the backing of Valverde, whom he could apparantly follow up the climbs. Not bitter, just feel that if he was so good, why'd he move to the USA, and not go back to being amateur in Spain, or somewhere with climbs [that matter, unlike in the US, where the majority of coverage is on flat crits].
Yeah, that's it, that's who he followed on the Baxter camp. Yeah quite agree, was just thinking you should be taking his place.

Aha! I like your optimism. I don't think I'll be climbing as well as he does, though, when he pops back into town next off-season, I will be running after him trying to get his autograph, you know, just for fun. And then try and persuade him to be my new best training buddy. It's all about who you know...!

Well, Mancebo is dominating the US circuit currently, and he is definitely a climber.
I guess he went there because someone hired him.

He's also a doper.
EDIT: Which American sports don't seem to mind. If I have my facts right, is it ok for American football players to dope in the off-season? Bit of a stupid mentality if you ask me, but then...[continues waffling anti-american speak]

Obviously, but a doped Contador can't out sprint a clean Cav, so my point that there must be plenty of hilly races still stands.
As far as American sports goes, doping is pretty fair game, with two week bans being fairly standard, although most sports care much less than cycling does.

Two week bans......not in cycling/triathlon/baseball/running/etc. Don't know where your finding your information on my country. |

How about Shawne Merriman in American Football, 4 week ban for steroids. I seem to remember Rodney Harrison getting a 6 or 8 week ban as well and I think that was 2nd or 3rd offense, could be wrong about that though.
And its only really since the whole Balco and the following Senate inquiry that baseball has started to do anything about steroids |

Yeah, I am not trying to pick fights, I know there are some large loopholes in the football area....but it is better. Now that the USADA is starting to pull things outta their a$$ |

Yeah, cycling does enough to attract a lot of bad publicity but not enough to eradicate doping.

Even the punters of American football teams are doped
This blog-thing explains the problem pretty well:
https://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/...ill/070731
The conclusion:
There is no way American sports are any cleaner than cycling. In fact, if our sports were held to world anti-doping standards, the cycling's scandals would seem mild by comparison. |
