Not really a point, is it ? Look at Germany, we splitted Berlin for about 40 years - not quite the same, but still...

At least for one of the halves, I guess?

So what was your point in bringing up Berlin then? Berlin was an unsuccessful division, but Brussels would be successful if it was divided up because there are no Russians involved?

There's actually no chance of Brussels being divided. 1: Belgium splits and Brussels is with the flemish. 2: Brussels splits and is with the French part of Belgium. 3: Brussels will be a country.

But flemish people have maybe the biggest reason to take Brussels because brussels is in Flanders.

Wallones have been trying to make a corridor ( a piece of 20 meters wide across the Zoniƫnwoud to have a connection to Brussels)

And there will certainly be no wall.

My point was: It is possible to split a major city, that's all. Of course that causes a lot of problems, but there's certainly not a point in saying belgium can't be splitted because of brussels

@sam: Berlin is also in east germany, that didn't stop the split...

You would probably have an effect still, although lesser than in Berlin.
Flanders is richer than Wallonia.

You will never split Belgium because of Brussels, and besides there really isn't need for it. The independance feeling on either side isn't particullarly strong.

that feeling is growing stronger because the some flemish politicians say that negotiations are stuck because of the fransh speaking.

But you would need an argreement. The Walloons would be unlikely to accept a division especially if they are relying on current Flemish trade and money.

Not necessarily, De Gaulle said decades ago that France would "do its duty" if Wallonie was to split up from Belgium. And I'm wondering if it was Sarkozy or someone else, but those words came up again quite recently (one year ago, or something). Wallonie would thus become the third district of the Nord - Pas-de-Calais region.

Yeah, Walloons

@Aquirius, that is interesting. How strong is national identity though in Belgium?
