A portuguese guy send me a list of names, so I have them covered. They have very similar names, so I have put in many "doubles" (Nuno Miguel, Nuno Augusto and so on)
yep sounds right
let me know if you need any further help with Irish names/surames |

I could actually use some data on Irish surnames. So if you have a link or a list it would be very helpful |

Most interesting might be the list far below : Notable examples of firstnames and surnames, where they use the anglicised version of the Irish names.
There are normally always wikis for country names.

I have found the Wikis. Problem is that many of them only have limited names, and for some countries I need more than 100.
I am nearly done with first names now. Currently working on Switzerland |

I am now done with version 1 of the first names. Now it's time for the surnames, which I suspect will be a much bigger job. But nil desperandum, I will have a go at it.
An overview of the first names:
Heavily updated countries:
Australia
Austria
Belarus
Canada
Croatia
Czech Rep.
Germany
Great Britain
Ireland
Kazakhstan
Latvia
Luxembourg
Moldova
New Zealand
Norway
Poland
Portugal
Slovakia
Slovenia
South Africa
Sweden
Switzerland
Ukraine
USA
Updated countries:
Belgium
Denmark
Estonia
France
Italy
Lithuania
Japan
Netherlands
Russia
Spain
Basically, heavily updated means that I have given the names a complete overhaul. For a few I have "only" removed unrealistic names and added a large amount of realistic names.
Updated means, that I have removed many unrealistic names and/or added a few realistic names.
All other countries have not been edited (yet?)
I hope to release it later this week, when I am done with surnames and testing |

Just try to avoid looking at football for the Netherlands. Because in football, there's a lot of moroccan, surinam and turkish heritage players... and cyanide simply copied the football names which makes no sense
You get mixes like Mohammed Van der Sar etcetera... it looks really silly
Keep it to really dutch names |

This is what I have done so far . Also in Austria it was bad with a lot of turkish and slavic names. With a bit of common sense and lingual knowledge, it can be done

It's great that you do this project! It is really annoying sometimes, to see these unusual names if you play a long career.
Maybe if it's finished it also could be submitted to Cyanide for the new game? At least i expect it to be in the next Daily DB
But it has to be finished before. So keep up the good work |

And this 2 sites can you find a lot of more names, but the sites are in Dutch....:
https://www.voorna...ge_id=3800
https://www.voorna...
If you look at the first site, if you going a little bit down and then look at the left you see the Dutch boys first names.
In the second site are the last names if you looking a bit down !
Good luck! |

My family is Austrian for several generations and has a polish name. I would prefer to see all kinds of Austrian last names but for first names you should stick to german names. For example Heinz Pollischansky is a normal Austrian name (and no, this is not my name). |

That is true but a little bias is needed in some cases. For example in Ireland there are niow lots of Poles , Nigerians and many other sbut not mnay of them are likely to be in the next generation of cyclists
how mant Asian cyclists in Britain are there for example?

My way of doing it is, to exclude most foreign names. This is to prevent unrealistic names. Unfortunately this is the only way of doing it, as there is no way we can restrict the combination of first and last names |

MacC: I am not talking about immigrants. These "foreign" sounding austrian names come from the 18th or 19th century.
MrDemus: No need to restrict any combination. If you only have german first names there will never be a foreign name like Petr Czervenka (sounds Czech to me). But it would be possible to have a Hans Czervenka (a normal Austrian name). |
