Team News #7: Caruso signs!
It's official! Italian national champion Gianpaolo Caruso has decided to join Ferrari for the upcoming season.
Caruso was a free agent after his former team Lafarge disbanded. The Italian will get a leader role in our squad and will be a very important part of our team this season. He's one of the best climbers in the world and will be needed to achieve our mountainous goals.
Gianpaolo had a good season last year, finishing 9th in the Tour de France and 53rd in the individual rider rankings. He also performed well in some other races, like Critérium du Dauphiné, Deutschland Tour and Paris-Nice, where he unfortunately crashed out while sitting 5th overall.
We got very surprised that he decided to join us, a Continental Tour team. He had plenty of offers from WorldTour teams, like Bacardi and Pendleton's Twicer, but in the end, he liked Ferrari's offer the most and signed a contract with us. His wage ended on € 700,000, a price we think that he's worth. We're sure that he will deliver many good results this season and we're looking forward to see him in our colours!

Team News #8: More signings!
We've successfully managed to sign some more riders!
The first of them is Mauro Santambrogio, who recently finished second in the real life Italian championships. He's a strong puncheur, which makes him one of our best domestiques in harder terrain. He will also act as leadout man in some races, because of his good sprinting ability. His wage ended on € 120,000, a good price for him, according to me.
The second new rider in the team is Emanuele Rizza. He joins Dall'Antonia as main sprinters in the team. He's a better sprinter than Dall'Antonia, but weaker on the hills, so he'll be our main sprinter in the flatter races and stages. We think that Emanuele will bring us some nice victories this season. He will at least show that the € 70,000 we spended on him wasn't thrown away.
Two main sprinters isn't enough in a team according to me. We found a solution to that - Crescenzo D'Amore. He's will be our main rider for the sprints this season, since he's better than both Rizza and Dall'Antonia. Crescenzo is starting to decrease, but he's still capable of delivering very good results. Another main reason that we signed him was his low wage - only € 65,000.
The last signing that we've completed is Eros Capecchi, another sprinter. However, he's not even close as good as D'Amore and Rizza. He will be used as leadout man for our faster guys. Even though he isn't a great sprinter, we're really happy to have him in the team.

Team News #9: Another rider signed
We've managed to sign another new rider, Moris Possoni! He is a good climber, who will be a strong mountain domestique to Caruso. Two other teams, Venchi ProCycling and UniCredit were also interested in Possoni, but in the end he decided to accept our offer, giving him a wage of € 120,000. It might sound a bit high, but he's a rider we really wanted, so we think he's worth it.

Team News #10: Pietropolli joins the team!
Another rider has signed a contract with Ferrari. This time it's Daniele Pietropolli, a good climber who will be very important as a helper for our leaders. Last year he rode for the Inter team, now named Pirelli - Alfa Romeo. He did renew his contract with the team for this season, but we managed to buy him out of his contract. We want to thank the DS for Pirelli, rycadinho for his niceness during the negiotiations and welcome Pietropolli to Ferrari!

Team News #11: Squad completed!
Today we completed our last signing for this transfer season. The squad is now finalised and the riders in it will be the ones representing us this season. The last rider we signed was also the first non-Italian, Polishman Przemyslaw Niemiec. We'll be calling him PN, since that's a lot easier to pronouce.
He will be one of the most important riders in the team, sitting on great abilities in both climbing and timetrials. That will be very important for Caruso, or whoever is the leader in a race. PN will also lead us in some races, and will surely do it well.
Transfers - Check!

Team News #12: Stagiare joins the team!
As we are going towards the end of the transfer season, it is now possible for the teams to sign stagiares, young riders who will stay with the team and learn from the older riders. Ferrari has successfully managed to sign one, Attilio Scodeller. He's a 20 year old Italian with good potential to become a strong climber in the future. He won't become a Grand Tour winner, but he will surely develop into an important domestique in the futurity.
Attilio Scodeller, the new Basso?

Team Presentation - Part 1 - Leaders
- Gianpaolo Caruso - € 700,000
Caruso will, no doubt be the main leader of our squad this season. The team is mostly built around him, and he is the guy who we expect to deliver the results we are expecting this season. In other words, our goals. His great climbing abilities will be extremely important, since most of the goals is placed in mountainous races. The whole team is ready to help Gianpaolo get the best out of his qualities, and we're sure that he will play a major role in how our season goes.
- Przemyslaw Niemiec - € 350,000
Besides Caruso, our team is quite weak on the leader front. However, we do have one other guy that will be given an promoted role in the team, Niemiec. He's also a very good climber and also a strong timetriallist. That gives him a big advantage to many other riders in week-long races with a timetrial. When Caruso isn't participating in a race, Niemiec will be given the leaders role. He will definitely have a successfull season with plenty of good results.
- Tiziano Dall'Antonia - € 100,000
Dall'Antonia is the third and last rider who will be given a leader role in the team. Unlike his two leader companions, he will be harvesting his successes in the flatter races and stages. He's got a good sprint and the ability to survive some hills, which makes him dangerous in both flat and flat-hilly races. Tiziano is also strong in the timetrials, which favours his chances in some shorter flat races with a timetrial.

Team Presentation - Part 2 - Sprinters
- Crescenzo D'Amore - € 65,000
Our main sprinter this season. At 33 years, he's got tons of experience from many races during his career, which will favour his chances in the mass sprints. CD isn't a top-top sprinter, but he's still got good speed in the sprints. His career hasn't been full of victories, but we're sure that it will be different this season. He will now be the main sprinter and get full support from the rest of the team in the flat races and stages. He will definitely have a good season in our colours.
- Emanuele Rizza - € 70,000
Also a very good sprinter, but he lacks the kind of acceleration that D'Amore has. Rizza is still capable of delivering good results, though. However, he will have to step aside and act as leadout man for D'Amore in the races where both participate. We've talked with Emanuele about that and he understands that and accepts his role in the team.
- Eros Capecchi - € 70,000
Capecchi is the third best sprinter in our team and will mostly be leadout man for his faster team mates D'Amore and Rizza. However, it's definitely not precluded that he will be given the right to ride for his own chances in some races. If he finds himself in a smaller group at the end of a stage he will definitely be allowed to try and go for the win. His role in the team is as a leadout man, though.

Team News #13: Another National Champions Jersey revealed!
Przemyslaw Niemiec is the Polish timetrial champion, so he needs a Polish national champion jersey to wear during the timetrials. The guy who designed both our standard jersey and Caruso's Italian, ANFreeman was kind enough to create a new one for Niemiec. We didn't even need to ask him, he made it anyway! What a service
Here is the jersey. Niemiec is proud to wear it. Big thanks to ANFreeman.

Team Presentation - Part 3 - Luxury domestiques
- Marco Osella - € 110,000
Marco is according to me the most important rider in the whole team. He will be the only rider who can assist our leaders in the higher mountains. That will be crucial if we want to complete our mountainous goals. Marco will probably also be given the leaders role in a few races where neither Caruso or Niemiec is participating.
- Mauro Santambrogio - € 120,000
Santambrogio is another of our strong super helpers. However, unlike Osella he will be assisting during the flatter parts and on the easier climbs. He will also be used as leadout man if our actual sprinters are not present. Santambrogio will be used as a helper on all kinds of terrain, except the hardest mountains.
- Cristiano Salerno - € 85,000
Salerno is actually our second best puncheur, which tells you a bit about how weak our squad is on hilly terrain. Our best puncheur, Caruso, will not be aiming for any hilly races, so Salerno has a good chance to actually lead our team in some hilly races. His strength isn't amazing, but it will certainly be enough to deliver some good results this season, perhaps even a win.

Team News #14: Ferrari invited to GP Liechtenstein!
Yesterday, the race organisers of the ProTour classic Grand Prix Liechtenstein annouced which teams was going to participate in their race. The 18 ProTour teams were assured a place in the race, so there was only one place left for the ProContinental and Continental teams to fight for.
Ferrari's management made the decision to go all in to try and get that last spot on the startlist, so this wildcard was the only one we applied for. Our plan worked and Ferrari got the wildcard spot in the race.
The race is very hard, taking on 14 laps on a mountainous terrain. The race should fit Gianpaolo Caruso very well, so we'll be sending a strong lineup to Liechtenstein as backup for him.
The riders who will be representing Ferrari in Liechtenstein are:
| Gianpaolo Caruso | Leader | | Przemyslaw Niemiec | Co-Leader | | Marco Osella | Luxury domestique | | Moris Possoni | Luxury domestique | | Massimiliano Maisto | Domestique | | Daniele Pietropolli | Domestique | | Mattia Pozzo | Domestique | | Edoardo Girardi | Domestique |

Team News #16: Strong start in Tachira!
The Management season kicked off yesterday, but Ferrari decided to skip MTN Cycling Classic and take on Vuelta al Tachira instead. The first stage of Tachira was reported today, with good news for Ferrari!
We sent these riders to represent us in South America:
| Przemyslaw | Niemiec | | Massimiliano | Maisto | | Edoardo | Girardi | | Daniele | Pietropolli | | Pier Graziano | Sgrigna | | Mattia | Pozzo | | Enrico | Battaglin |
The first stage was a short team time-trial. We didn't have any expectations at all, since we had a quite weak timetrialling sqad. However, the guys gave everything and surprised everyone with a 6th place at the end, only 9 seconds slower than the winning team, WWE. This was a really nice surprise for us, and it gives Niemiec a good position in the overall going into the harder stages. We'll see what he can do there.
The Ferrari riders en route to a 6th place on the day.

Team News #17: Ferrari on the attack in Tachira!
It looks like our strong performance in the opening team time-trial in the Vuelta al Tachira has motivated our riders in a good way. In stage two Mattia Pozzo decided to give it a try late in the stage together with Cornelius Van Ooijen from Team Emu Export. Unfortunately, they were quickly brought back by the sprinters teams.
Pozzo giving it a try in stage 2.
The day after it was another flat, easy stage. Once again Ferrari had a rider on the attack. This time it was Daniele Pietropolli who managed to get into the early breakaway together with Piotr Mazur from Bianchi and Craig Lewis from CSC-Orbea. Pietropolli didn't just join the group, he won both the intermediate sprints on the stage too. A strong showing by the former Pirelli rider.
Pietropolli battling with Mazur and Lewis at the intermediate sprints on stage 3.
Both of the stages was won by Jonas Aaen Jörgensen from newly the newly formed team Aker Solutions - Bergans after two impressive sprints, beating Cerne man Bruno Santos and Volkswagens' Fabio Sabatini to the line on both stages.
Jörgensen on fire in Venezuela!
The Ferrari riders stayed out of trouble on both stages and is saving as much energy as possible for the coming mountain stages, where we hope to see Niemiec shine. The man to beat will be Aker's José Alarcon, one of the best climbers in the cycling world. If the Aker riders continue like this, it looks like it will be a walk in the park for Alarcon in stage 4. It will surely be a great battle!
Will we see something like this in stage 4?

Team News #18: Niemiec storms to timetrial win in Tachira!
After some less good stages for us in the Vuelta al Tachira, we've now got something to cheer about! Stage 8 provided a very hard mountain timetrial, suiting the climbers with good skills against the clock too. One rider with exactly those skills is our Polish friend Przemyslaw Niemiec. We knew that the stage would suit him quite well, but we hadn't expected this kind of performance by him!
Niemiec on his way to victory in the mountain timetrial.
We've also got another good result here in Tachira. In stage 7, we sent Daniele Pietropolli into the long breakaway. His companions were Julian Rodas from CSC-Orbea, Amets Txurruka from WWE and Victor Hugo Orozco from Emu Export. They were allowed to go clear with a big margin, enough to battle it out for the stage win.
The breakaway in stage 7: Pietropolli, Rodas, Txurruka and Orozco.
Unfortunately Daniele didn't have his best day and was dropped by his three companions on the day's big climb. He still managed to hang on to a 4th place, some six minutes behind stage winner and new race leader Rodas.
Pietropolli couldn't follow his companions on the climb.

Team News #20: Good start in Wellington
As I said earlier, the Tour of Wellington started today with the first of five stages. The organisers had decided to give the riders an easy start of the race, with a 118 kilometres long stage without any major difficulties at all. It did include two mountain sprints, but none of them were hard enough to create any selection in the peloton. In general, stage one is a sprinters stage.
The profile of stage one.
The peloton reeled in the early attackers and everything was setting up for a mass sprint. Team Bpost managed to set up a small sprint train for their fastest man Jurgen Van Loocke and all the other main sprinters, including Emanuele Rizza followed the Bpost riders. Unfortunately, Rizza couldn't manage to get any good wheel and had to settle with sitting on the wheel of CSC-Orbea's Roman Maksimov, a bit too far back.
The long line of sprinters, with Rizza at the back of it.
Unfortunately for them, Bpost's work for Van Loocke didn't pay off, as he was passed by the other sprinters when the sprint was off. Rapha Condor's fast Briton Peter Kennaugh was the fastest in the end and won the stage ahead of Focused's Romain Feillu and overall race favourite Fabian Wegmann from Team Trilux. Rizza managed to advance a bit from his bad position and finished 7th on the stage, while the rest of the team finished safely inside the peloton.
Kennaugh just edging out Feillu and Wegmann to win stage one.
Result:
1 | Peter Kennaugh | Rapha Condor - Qhubeka | 3h01'48 | 2 | Romain Feillu | Focused Cycling | s.t. | 3 | Fabian Wegmann | Team Trilux - Falke | s.t. | 4 | Jérome Giaux | Jayco - Red Bull | s.t. | 5 | Enrico Gasparotto | Team Puma - SAP | s.t. | 6 | Jack Bauer | Meiji - Fuji | s.t. | 7 | Emanuele Rizza | Ferrari - ERG | s.t. | 8 | Claudio Cucinotta | Team Rothaus - Aegon | s.t. | 9 | Westley Gough | Oz Cycling Project | s.t. | 10 | Ben Hermans | Team Rothaus - Aegon | s.t. |
