I'm applying because it looks like a great game. I have been tempted to apply previous seasons too, especially the last two, but I never did, because I knew I wouldn't have time for it then. Now though, I have both time and motivation to join the management game.
I was part of rjc_43 "game" with individual riders from this community, based on PCM08, and I liked the way I had to plan "my" season there, and I'm sure I will like putting together a team, doing their race plans, putting right people in the right races. I've always liked strategic games, and PCM combined with strategy in the way it is in the management attracts me, and hopefully I can be part of it.
How do we know that you will be active?
You just have my word on that. I've been away from this community from october/november until now, but I can assure you that I'm "back" now, and I know I won't just disappear from this community again.
How would you intend to manage a team, if you get one?
If I get a team, I will hopefully manage to base it on riders from Scandinavia and Northern Europe. It will most likely be tough to get "top class" riders the first season, therefore I will try to have a team with punchers/fighters, and aim for one day races. But if I get the chance to sign a decent stage racer/sprinter, I won't say no. As a policy, none of my riders should be older than 30.
How do we know that you will be active?
Firstly I'd like to say I have been following the Man-Game intensely for the past few months and it looks like a lot of fun, and something I'd like to be a part of, and for that I thank you for giving those lucky few the opportunity.
You know I'll be committed because I have over 3000 posts and joined the site over a year ago (And I'm still here). Also I want to point out that I was rejected of a spot in the game last year so maybe you'd rather allow even newer users than myself, but I understand and pray this isn't the case. I think I've learned a lot from last year even though I wasn't picked because I have a much better knowledge of how the game works compared to if I was accepted last season.
Plus over the past few weeks I have been reading all the threads in the Rules and Announcements forum section to get an even better knowledge of the game. Another reason I believe you should pick me is because I have been involved in other “somewhat-outside-of” PCM Daily games like the PCM Daily Fantasy Football League (which I won). Even after all that I think you know that I will be active if I happen to get accepted because I've been here for over a year, and I have posted on almost every single day. I check the forum after school every day.
Why do you want to apply?
I'm applying because I think the Man-Game looks like a lot of fun to manage a team, that you have created yourself and watch throughout the season, getting good results and the occasional victory by your team. Even just reading along in all the discussion and media threads even before now is very interesting to me because reading about the teams good results or news on a new sponsor for next season are very interesting to me. All of my friends on the forum always talk about how great the Man-Game is and I have never seen anyone that has been a part of it say anything bad about it, so therefore it must be great. I guess more of the reason I want to join is because I want to setup my own team so now on to the next (my favourite) part.
How would you intend to manage your team, if you get one?
I would want to start a Japanese team and sign some of the better Japanese riders where possible if I was chosen. I would also sign riders from other parts of Asia and maybe a few exotic countries if the amount of Japanese riders isn't enough enough for a team, plus I want the team to be successful and I think riders from exotic countries makes the team more interesting, but I'd be sure to keep the team mostly Japanese/Asian. I would try to build a team around attacking style riders that can get in the breakaway or attack with 15km left in a stage (f.e. Beppu) but also have a couple riders that can climb and sprint so we can get results at any type of race. The teams goals would be do do well in the "home" races, so races like Japan Cup, Tour of Japan, and the Tour of Malaysia (forget the actual race name atm).
My main goal is to try and steal Arashiro from Smowz (jk unless he offers him). I also noticed Deadpool was giving up his Japanese riders at the end of the season so that helps as well.
Ok so now I just wanna say, I'm not making this up just make my ideas sound good. I really want to start a Japanese team, because last year at this time I was on a trip in Japan, and I have loved Japan ever since. I can't really back this up, but Arashiro has been one of my favourite riders even before I joined PCM.daily and found out he has his own fan club.
I think a Japanese team in the man-game would be really cool because most teams are from Europe or North America and an Asian team would "turn heads".
(Yes you read correctly, I don't want to start a team of Canadians)
I want to apply because I missed the deadline last year and I want to have the opportunity to join this year. I love cycling and all of it's aspects but have never done cycling fantasy. I've done football(site), hockey, basketball and baseball but thought why isn't there a fantasy game for cycling. The management game sounds like a great experience. It's like footbal manager but cycling! I love reading the the teams and there goals and reading about the results. I want to have the chance now to join the fun myself.
How do we know that you will be active?
I have been a member of this site for a year and a half with a modest post count. I don't really post much but am defiantly logged on almost everyday. I will be active because I had to downgrade computers and it can't handle PCM( really sucks). I've been following almost every story to try and fill the void but storytellers just don't go fast enough . With a chance to manage a team without playing is a great opportunity and I won't let you down. I like to keep my word and finish what I start. So a few years from now when I'm at the top you will thinking "WOW! Glad we let him join" or "Why did we pick him he's too good." Not to sound cocky but sports managing is my specialty.....although I lost in the fantasy finals...valverde
How would you intend to manage your team, if you get one?
If I get a team i would want to start young with a few veteran so I can build my team from the ground up. Based on free agency availability i would want a czechoslovakian spear headed by one day the 2 sensations. Or a candiamerican team filled with promise from North America. I would like to have a sprint first team which would be a challenge with my ideas but it would be fun. Climbing would take 2nd priority while hills/classics will be minimal. However this is all based on the availability riders via free agency and transfer. Already got a couple of cool sponsors in mind. I want a team that can grow and that can produce superstars that will have my inbox flooded with transfer requests.
Thank You for the consideration and I hope I can be apart of the management world this year.
(I'm on vacation with no computer access so this application was typed up on my iPod. My thumbs may be hurting but it will be worth it if I'm selected. )
I'd like to apply for a CT team, knowing it will be almost impossible for me to get one again.
I would be interested in making a team where I can't sign riders older than 24 and with an AVR of 74... My team should also be based in a certain nation with me having atleast 50% of the teams riders from that nation.
You know that I'm very active, and will put in my every power to make my team as good as possible within the criterias I get to work under. I will play fair though after last seasons poorly thought ways of behaving.
De Stijl Cycling have today submitted an application to the UCI, for a place in the Continental Tour for the 2012 season. The new team is fronted by young British DS, James Hare, who has this to say:
"It would be an honour to become a part of the Continental Tour, but of course the decision lies with the UCI. If we were to get a slot, then we would of course be extremely happy and will make the most of the space. We have our fingers crossed."
The team will be based in Geneva, but will be a team of mixed nationality, with a focus on developing young talent. The majority of the team will be Under 25, with a group of strong riders between 25 and 30 to lead the team, and some experienced heads to lead the team.
The bikes for the new team will be provided by SCOTT Sports, and I am pleased to announce that the helmets for the riders will be produced by Bell Sports, through their Giro brand.
An announcement on our sponsor will be made at a later date, but I can tell you now that it is a large multinational company.
Right, I'm not sure if this idea seems a touch over eager, or arrogant, but, inspired by Jph27's approach, I figured I'd have a go, and fill in some of the blanks that I left out of my initial post; namely the sponsor details.
Speculation over new teams for 2012 By: Nicholas Adams Published: March 13, 21:30
With the 2011 season drawing to a thrilling climax, our attention now turns to the transfer season. Managers, from both the pro tour and the continental division will now be vying to acquire the most talented of riders, and building their teams for the upcoming season.
However, as with every season, not all teams continue; Some sponsors pull out, or the management simply quit, leaving ample space within the peleton for new teams to emerge. With this, come a mass of rumours of new sponsors and teams, who intend to step up to the challenge.
One such rumour that recently emerged was that the company known as Cyclevox, would be applying for a Continental License, and building a team from the ground up. The company have been working amidst cycling for years, providing media coverage and informative consultations for teams and the pubic alike.
For some time, this rumour has seemed somewhat uninspired, and possibly random. However, a recently leaked image of a jersey bearing the cyclevox logo (shown below) seems to suggest that this rumour may, in fact, hold water.
Management are, as of yet, unwilling to speak openly about this; though it would be feasible that this may be to avoid disappointment if the team is ultimately unable to acquire a continental license.
It seems, only time will tell.
Now, to see if that was a good idea... My apologies if it seems arrogant, though. Just thought I'd have a bit of fun out of this After all, in real life, the competition for places would be really interesting, too.
Why do you want to apply?
Well I mean apart from the obvious reasons, such as it looks like fun and I enjoy cycling - both of which are totally true, it is mostly because I love the idea of seeing the behind-the-scenes stuff that you don't get in a game of PCM. This sort of game, to me, represents in many ways what PCM's Managerial side should look like - the struggle team managers face in getting their ideal team, the attempts to set things up just perfectly and finally the minimal input they will have in a race once the starting gun is fired. The idea of just tweaking very small things to perfection - getting rider fitness to peak for just the right race, adding in an extra race for a rider who is really in form - these are things that really appeal to me.
I also really enjoy writing, though I have yet to do an after action report for PCM (I have written them for other games in the past and I had a couple for various games that were read by a lot of people). I think this would really be a challenging opportunity to write in a medium I am not used to - press releases, rider interviews, fake blog posts for my riders - I think there are a lot of possibilities I would like to explore that only this sort of setting would allow me to do.
On top of all of these aspects of gameplay, I feel I will really be able to become a part of the community. Often communities with large groups of regular members are hard for some people to work their way into, and for me this provies a path to get to know the other members in a way that is more personal, and thus allows me to feel my input elsewhere in the forum will be more valued.
How do we know that you will be active?
I have commited myself to various parts of this forum over the last 12 months in particular. I participated in the Fantasy Tour and I commented on that thread almost every day. I also participate in the Fantasy Betting at every opportunity. I watch cycling fanatically, though I suspect I am not the only one in this thread, but either way I find that this is one of the few forums on which I can post about the sport. Because of this I am unlikely to leave this site for a very long time, as I can't imagine myself not talking about it. If I am actively watching cycling and actively posting and reading about it, I will be active in this game - that is how you can know.
Further to this, I have several generations of the PCM franchise, and fully intend to get PCM11 the day that it comes out. I read the new blog posts and interviews on this site whenever they come out and I don't expect that to change. So as long as Cyanide are making cycling games, I will be on this site.
How would you intend to manage a team, if you get one?
Initially I would look at the project as similar to Landbouwkrediet, targetting the semi-classics and hoping to gain acceptance to the larger classics throughout the season. A place in any of the Grand Tours is beyond what this team hopes to accomplish, at least in the first couple of seasons. I would want lots of aggressive riders who can seek out long-distance breakaway victories or at least get air-time for the sponsors.
I wouldn't want the team to become dominated by one country only, though the backbone would quite likely be Belgian riders with a good measure of aggressive riders from other countries thrown in. The team leaders would likely be super-domestiques if they were in any of the major teams - this would not be a team based on one rider alone, but would seak to find classic riders of the future.
So yes, that's a lot to get through but it pretty much sums up my view on all of your questions. I followed a lot of the last season, so I know how a lot of it works and I've been waiting for this thread to open in some time. Sorry for giving you so much to read
Why do you want to apply? It seems like great fun. I like these sorts of fantasy games, and really want to take part in one. I have never tried anything like this before, so it would be a great challenge. Also, it is an opportunity for me, to be a part of the activity on the site.
How do we know that you will be active? I guess you don't know. All I have is my word that I'll be comitted to the game. I know that I am not the guy with the most posts on here, but you'll just have to trust, that I will be around for the game.
How would you intend to manage a team, if you get one? I like the puncheur type riders and cobbled classics. So I would try to have a very varied range of riders, combined with a lot of young guys. I have been thinking, and a mock up would be like this: I think my team will be mainly spanish or french, but with a second nationality that is a smaller nation. Riders will be mainly from our main countries, but not exclusively. Maybe about 80%. A mentioned, I would aim to have an action team - puncheurs going for the mountains, and some aggresive classics riders.
Not the longest and most detailed application for a place in the Man-Game.
Why do you want to apply?
Also for me, the Man-Game is a great game and surely fun to play. I don´t know where else i could play such a game so the next logical step is apply here. Also, i´m sick of reading the race reports without being involved.
How do we know that you will be active?
I think i was active througout the last months and can´t see a reason why that should change. The Man-Game would be a further reason to be active in this forum.
How would you intend to manage a team, if you get one?
I´d like to manage a German team with one half of German riders and the other half of mixed nationalities. Riders should be of all ages with talents, old experienced riders, ... . I will not have the money for really good riders in the first year so i only can aim to get some riders with chances in smaller races and breakaways. Here, the focus will be on good mountain and hill riders and at least one man for some top ten results in sprint finishes.
The sponsor will be a German. I haven´t decided yet but "reactivate" a team (e.g. Gerolsteiner) is one possibility; the other one is to get a sponsor with a seat not too far away from where i live.
Why do you want to apply?
I have been very interested in joining the man-game even since I created my account here at PCM.Daily. I figured out how the man-game worked as it opened up for new managers last season but I don't feel my resume was good enough at the time to even I apply since I was a fairly new member. So I now after waiting a year I feel that I'm ready to take the reins of a new team to victory. How do we know that you will be active?
To start, I have been very active over the last year writing my EA-Sony Ericsson Cycling Story in the forums. I have great commitment since this is my only story I have wrote while being part of the forum. Another point I would like to bring up is during my strong 1 year here I also put together PCM.Daily's Favourite Cyclist and Team Competition. Together they tallied over 800 replies over just a short period time. How would you intend to manage a team, if you get one?
I would like to create my team around 1-2 accomplished veteran riders, and surround them with young climbers. If possible I would like all the riders come from Europe, with the majority from Spain and Portugal. I will mainly focus on 4-5 stage races with key climbing stages that decide GC.
Why do you want to apply?
Well, i've been waiting a long time on this, and I've allways loved to write. I've read around in some HQ's and followed the game in some month's now, and i've received a very good impression. I have been thinking about starting a story, but since I often get very tired of playing, (which is sad, since I love to write), I see this as a great opportunity to use my creativity, and use some of the spare time I already have, without getting tired of the playing-part!
One of the most positive sides of this game, is the competition, both for signings, and races etc., which you will not find in a carrier on your own. That's maybe the most important point for me with this game. The way I write, is very inspired by news reports, which is one of the reasons I think this is the spot for me. I also think this management game, will help improve, both my English and my writing abilities.
How do we know that you will be active?
You can only take my word, of course. But I never commit to something without being 100% sure i will give my precious time to participate in a proper way, and try to reach the top and be the best. My number of posts kind of fool my activity in time. I check into here several times a day, being most active into the graphic section, but i also reed most of the stuff being posted here. For example i read several stories and and are following the Man-game, and I'm also staying as up-to-dated i can in the PCM news.
How would you intend to manage a team, if you get one?
This I've actually planned for some time. My main focus (if i get a team) will be around young Italian riders. I am going to aim for some respectable places in the minor Italian 1-day races and heading for some good placement's in other races in Europe the first year. My rooster will focus on fighters, who can climb hill's very good for the hilly 1-day races. I may have some more experienced rider's, but my intention is to grow the future stars, and present my rider's will to win for the other team's, and be visible. Our sponsors will probably be Italian only, if we we manage to find the right one's.
Why do you want to apply?
Because I am interested very much it this manager games, and I wanted to present myself already, but there may not be a season meanwhile, the time came now so. How do we know that you will be active?
More will be my spare time already since this season is beginning in a May expectedly, and I can observe PCM Daily events then every day. How would you intend to manage a team, if you get one?
I would put Central Europe competitors into it if I would get a team, fighters, one-day cool ones, sprinter with 1-2 means, and a good several days long competitor
I would like to apply for a team in the management game.
Why do I want to apply?
I'd love to play this game because it requires knowledge of cycling and riders. I believe I would be good at the game because I do follow cycling closely. The independence of owning a team is a thrill to me. The highs, the lows, the feeling when a rider you have mentored succeds, is something I crave.
How do you know I will be active?
Obviously there is no way of proving this but my word. As you don't know me I can see how you wouldn't trust me but as I said I'm enthralled in cycling and I am not a person that would quit on a game certainly out of respect for you and your game.
How do I intend to manage my team?
I truly believe in young riders. A young sprinter like Andrea Guardini is the kind of rider I love. Riders from many different countries and specialities would be my target. Breakaway riders like Voeckler are very fun to watch on a bike and those riders who will always do something in a race are the riders I would fill my roster with.
I appreciate you thinking of me for the Management game.
