Did the split come from the sprint?
Yeah there five sprinters got a little bit clear of the peleton - the sprinters do seem to get a little bit away from the rest in pcm 2010... It doesn't often give a gap though. Mind you it happens from time to time in pcm 09!

He is being set up quite well by Ben Swift - the main competition is Bole, Ginanni, Bennati and Steegmans.

More stages:
Stage 9: Mount Etna!

Plenty of attacks on the Mountain - Basso and Schleck form a front group with Evans, Arroyo and Scarponi able to bridge. Evans manages to go again and holds off the late sprint. We get a fairly big group behind led in by Garzelli.

Stage 11: Very up and down

Unfortunatly didn't work for me in 3-D - used the interesting detailed simulation. This allowed a break to win it! Quite a lot of gaps behind - but Pinotti still leads.

Stage 12: Real flat one this.

Two riders have a fair bit of a gap with 50km to go 8 minutes but it is caught and Swift sets it up well for Boasson Hagen. Strange mid peleton split here with about 25km to go - meaning some riders needlessly lose a minute.

Stage 13: Glossglockner stage

It is a bit of an attritional climb of Glossglockner. With 10km to go there are 61 riders left, 7.5km there is 48 left and then with 5km to go thee are 37 riders left. With 3km to go Basso puts the hammer down - only Andy Schleck can live with him. This means that the Luxembourger takes the pink jersey from Pinotti.

wacko: no probs...
Stage 14: Is the Zoncalon one....

Very much ouch. Schleck and Fuglsang duo away on penultimate climb... but they are caught on the Zoncalon. Arroyo being one of the main reasons why! The final 5km are tense - no-one really attacks as riders fall off one by one. In the end five riders finish together, Basso just getting up ahead of Schleck and Evans.

Stage 15: Not much easier a real shark toothed one that includes the Cima Coppi.

This time with a tired peleton on the penultimate climb attacks make an elite group appear. Basso rides away as Schleck/Evans have no response - teammates in short supply as Basso maintains a two minute advantage into the last climb. Cunego rolls backs the years to ride away from the favourites group but it is Basso who rides solo old style type of win this one. Schleck/Evans no match for the Italians today.

That's enough Smowz. Ginanni won so there is clearly some major issues with this version.
I think at the end of the day - the switch needs to be made to PCM10.
Spoiler (The .db structure will hopefully be similar enough to make a switch to PCM11 possible if needed early in the season.) |

Another thing to check would be improved game play with small peletons, in real life they break up alot, with large breaks going and staying away, while in 09 often no one attacks.
Does anyone know if '10 changes anything?

That will be next on my list with one of the small races that the community has been working on! I can use that handy startlist generator that someone has done (unfortunately not for the new pcm daily database yet though )

Plenty of attacks on the Mountain - Basso and Schleck form a front group with Evans, Arroyo and Scarponi able to bridge. Evans manages to go again and holds off the late sprint. We get a fairly big group behind led in by Garzelli.
See this is what I don't like. 55 riders within 1minute. That is a bad thing for such a tough stage imo. And with our teams much much stronger, I reckon it could be further neutralized. Perhaps even so much that the best TT'ers could eventually win the Tour or Giro, or atleast top 5. Which shouldn't be the case at all.

Sorry not got round to this... personally I think the stages in the Giro have been fine. Mount Etna was not a steep one - hence why there was a big group behind. In the more difficult stages there was more of a selection.

Sorry not got round to this... personally I think the stages in the Giro have been fine. Mount Etna was not a steep one - hence why there was a big group behind. In the more difficult stages there was more of a selection.
I agree with one exception - I didn´t like to see 22 riders out of limit in first short mountain stage

That's a fair point, beagle as well. I noticed a high casualty rate in the Paris Roubaix as well, In a particular nasty one weather wise I believe there were just 65 or so finishers out of a full startlist.
The question is ... is this really acceptable for the Man Game to have a high casualty list? I think it adds a new dimension.

For P-R definitely, to make sure that if you send non-cobbled riders you don't get any points.
I'm fine with it for mountains as well

Personally, I don´t see any problem if only 1/3 riders would finish classic race like P-R...IRL (if I remember well), last year only 35 riders finished in Lombardia
on the other side, I can imagine when managers won´t send their best sprinters into GTs...and I think it isn´t what we would like to experience with

I agree that more riders abandon isn't necessarily a bad thing. It gives the team with good domestiques an extra bonus. Let's say that a shitty sprinter get's dropped from almost all races, he would be a very poor investment as he could cost 5*15 races (If he was to ride that), which is 75points that some team with a strong domestique would get. I believe that is only positive.
I do still think the mountains and sprints could be a problem. I would really like to see the outcome with "our" database in order to fully understand the change.

For me sprints are a bigger problem in pcm09 and less so in pcm10. You still get trains but they don't form at 10km to go, they form later and sprinters of high quality sprint really fast - though if they are not at the front they can get blocked.
With mountains, cobbles, hills and windy ones they are slightly less decisive. It will lead to TTers being in even more demand - but I really cannot see Zabriskie, Rogers etc. being able to win a grand tour.
I do think that perhaps the depth of the Protour squads is slightly stronger in the ManGame, but our teams have to spread their talent out over the season. In this Giro look at the team Andy Schleck had ... Fuglsang, Zaugg and Frank for a start. Scarponi had Spilak, Cunego, Kashechkin, Marzano and Pietropelli. The uber support is there but we are not getting the huge groups coming to the end that we are used to.
Having played the game (pcm10) a fair bit over the last six months and tested a number of stages - I am not seeing any Man Game breaking bugs. In fact on the contrary I am seeing some big improvements. The sprinting is not perfect but is an improvement, mountains climbs are less of the attack/counter frenzy we are used to, it is a slow drawn out affair.
I cannot see how it is realistic to expect someone (well SN) to convert the whole database across to pcm10 - if we are not going use it. The databases we have such as the outstanding pcmdaily one should provide us with the answers we need.
I do get that people are concerned though - it is a change a really big one, I will try and find the time to post a blow by blow mountain stage report - I have a real dandy of one in the alps to use. I will be looking out for the attack and go backwards issue and we shall see how the group goes. I will try and pack it with really strong teams as well.
The other thing to look at is a small amount of teams in a stage race - is the Tour of San Luis okay? - wanted to have a look as tsmoha's work there I will pick six teams composite of sprinters and climbers I think.

Stage 18

This is rated as mountain stage and after an early attack on the penultimate climb, Scarponi, Basso and Scheck bridge to him. Kreuzinger and Garzelli try a couple of times to bridge but cannot. The four up front work together on last climb, meanwhile Tiralongo a lasting rider from the early breakaway helps Kreuzinger away from peleton with Garzelli.

stage 20 didn't work so this was the last in 3-D. Lampre produced a nice double move on the last climb Cunego went early and then Scarponi kept sticking to Basso's wheel, meanwhile Andy Schleck really struggled only for late rescue moving forward in last 3 kilometers.
