Nice. Shame is that he'll very likely beat Petrov more or less the way Kubica did (although Petrov may have improved), but he'll have to leave his seat to Kubica (who'd better take Petrov's seat when he'll come back...).
Of course it's still unsure whether Kubica will ever be able to come back and how strong he'll be. |

Nice for Nick. A greatly underrated rider, in my opinion. |

Quick Nick is back. Not the best way to get a cockpit actually. But he is definitely a good addition for the season. |

You mean Frentzen at Sauber? He actually beat Webber too. Very pleased for Nick and would love to see him finally win a race this season. |

As expected, the GP of Bahrein has been cancelled. |

Don't really care. F1 is a bit boring, and Bahrain is one of the many tracks where there's no passing.
I'm annoyed that the GP2 races there were cancelled, though. They're always awesome.

Well, what's going on in Bahrain is a bit more important than a trillionaires race, as much as I love F1 and GP2. |

I didn't say it wasn't. I'm just annoyed that GP2 Asia was cancelled.

Oh, my post wasn't in response to your's. It was more of a reaction to the news of the cancellation, but sorry for the confusion. |

So the season starts in Melbourne. Good.
As for GP2/GP2 Asia, I'd love to be able to watch those races but don't have Eurosport and can never find a live stream on the internet for it, or even find highlights for that matter |

And so Australia has arrived, I cant wait to see just how the new regulations affect the racing on Sunday - most notably with the tyres

Absolutely nothing have changed in comparison with the 2010 season. Thats the conclusion, which I take from times in FP1 and FP2 today.
Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari are leaders yet again, but Mercedes seems to be much closer to them right now.
Loss of Kubica affected on Renault's form as they dont look so fast right now. Its gonna be tough fight for a place in top10 in Q sessions between the other "old" teams and, surprisingly, Toro Rosso, which impressed me their progress and times on the same level as Renault for example.
Lotus did its best during winter to catch up with others, but they still are about 1,5s behind their closest rivals.
Virgin didnt break the 107% rule today, but they improved by 3s between sessions and thats a good sign, so they may not have much difficulties in getting into a Sunday race. I hope at least.
And HRT...well, nothing to say about them as they did 1 lap only. No time set by F111 - lets just leave it without comment. Nevertheless, I still wish them all best and hope to see Karthikeyan and Liuzzi on grid on Sunday.
However, tomorrow's Q session should give us a lot more accurate infos about teams abilities. Really look forward to it.

Liuzzi and Karthikeyan failed to qualify after their HRT didn't get to the 107% time in the first session. Probrably the first time of many. |

If they wont participate in races in Malaysia or China, then probably Tata will say "goodbye" and even their nice livery wont help to stay in F1. Thats a shame coz they are irreplaceable part of Formula 1.
Btw, I wish Hamilton will beat Red Bulls tomorrow

Taking into account all the problems HRT have had, it's hardly a surprise. Actually, I didn't thought they'd so "close" to Virgin and Lotus. I don't think it'll take more than 2/3 races to get to the 107% regularly for them.
And the improvement of McLaren is impressive to say the least. |

That was ominous from Vettel and Red Bull. It still should be intriguing tomorrow - the teams will be struggling to find the optimum tyre strategy...and it's Albert Park |

First off, Kobayashi
Second, as a casual follower of F1, what is the 107% rule?

It stipulates that a driver who does not lap within 107% of the pole position time during the hour-long session the day before the race will not be eligible to compete in the race, subject to the discretion of the stewards.
Example in Japan Grand Prix some years ago.
Pole position time: 1:38.909
107% time : 1:45.833
One rider had this time: 1:46.795
% of pole: 107.973
He wasn't allowed to race. Hope it explains
