Rjc will be very pleased Im sure - he had a goal to win that race, and Ponzi delivers. And Vespa achieve their Top 5 goal too - which will be some consolation for Ginanni missing the podium.

Bad start, really bad start. Disaster. I need some big result in San Sebastian now.
Great ride by Ponzi, rjc will be happy for sure.
Btw Hushovd will take part of Scandinavian Race Uppsala, so there is bigger competition in these classics than mb thought.

Just a brief Rankings look for Garda. Wiggle close the gap on IKEA, although the Swedes will score from Slovenie ... eventually. But just look how close it is in the 3-6 battle after points for Pendletons and UBS. (Needless to say, its still pretty tight behind, with Bacardi now in 9th and Vespa in 18th, both up 1.
1 | Team IKEA - Bianchi | 3327 | 2 | Wiggle - San Pellegrino | 3134 | 3 | Pendleton's Twicer | 2469 | 4 | Sport Lisboa e Benfica | 2465 | 5 | UBS - Annie Chun's | 2457 | 6 | 100% Me | 2455 |
Ponzi is up to 3rd, Monfort there in 5th. But again, Taaramae will score well from Slovenie.

Despite getting the goal and finishing in the Top 5 I have to be slighty annoyed that Ginnani can do no more than Pozzato on that kind of course.
Close relationship with a good doctor - I think not.
He was in the Top 5 of the CT rankings last year - looks as if he's not even going to get close to the Top 10 this year.

He just about dropped him over the final hill, but Pozzato was always going to win the sprint.

I found it interesting to see those Yamaha boys riding in Youtube colours - no big problem both teams have the same mentality show ourselves in the first half of the race and then sit back and enjoy the fireworks!
Superb win for Ponzi there - season goal clincher as well and a big boost for Wiggle's hopes of winning the division as well as his own individual glory. Wiggle are the only team capable of chasing moves down from what I can see, so when he attacked others needed to respond.
That race behind for promotion is fairly intense - Benfica have raced more than the others I think (whilst Pendletons have raced the least) but then Benfica have got some mountainous stuff left where they excel.
Bacardi, Mercedes, Pendletons, Lego and Tinkoff all had similar races in scoring - Ricco's 5th will probably be slightly disappointing. But Efimkin's 17th was a blow for Milka.

San Sebastion
This one being in the HC class is really going to count, though I notice most of the main protagonists from the Italian race are here.
JJ Cobo is the best of the spainards - though we know what happened to him in the previous hilly classic in Spain that Kim Kirchen won. Bacardi have a chance of getting him and Ricco in the top rides, so it could be a good race for them.
I think this is a race for Pipo Pozzato to finally return to his bloemfontain winning form.

13rd by Wyss, what you could expect in this tough opposition. |

Yep, especially if you see what he made up from those 3 minutes to Ponzi and that minute and a half to Pozzato/Ginanni. Attacking way to late again, hasn't been the first time this season.

Another crappy performance from Ginanni. Why are they bothering to write his name on the roads.
Cobo I think was very lucky to win that one. |

And again, disappointing. Now he was there, but doing a proper sprint, no way.

Agreed
The whole raec I was begging him to hang onto Ricco's wheel. Then Ricco and Glbert dropped away

Well again with these hilly ones someone his going to be disappointed! It is very unpredictable though, the nationality bonus and some dodgy sprinting put paid to Ricco and Gilbert there. At least they were at the races so to speak.
Another pretty ordinary performance by Pozzato, Efimkin and Ginanni though nowhere near as bad as Schumacher back in 17th... UBS beginning to drop back I feel in that promotion hunt. Lego meanwhile are quietly accumulating with these hilly ones - though after this period we do quiet down before those October ones (Giro d'Emilia and Japan Cup).
That Slovenia points haul is going to frustrate rjc now - barring a crash (and Alarcon has crashed before on the last stage) there Ikea are going to score well. I imagine they will do will in the upcoming Urkola/Burgos races as well.

Big win for Santander really, they need results like that to get back into the thick of the battle.

That wasn't good result but it wasn't a complete disaster too.
Now I need some good luck in Sweden, I need some top 5 result to achieve one of my goals.
