Nice start from Rujano, not losing that much to other favorites...
Hoping for a top-10 and that's it. Anything else is a plus.

Wasn't sure who I'd sent to lead the team. I guess Tenorio works.

Happy with that Top 3, all sprinters remain over 20 seconds behind Intxausti

3rd for Serebriakov, out of the GC with Rodriguez.
Stage wins, here we come. |

Wild cards really do rule in the sprints... well apart from Youtube but we will se more of them later!
Horrible early crash for Tenerio though, Lafarge really could have done without that! |

The ProTour sprinting quality is incredibly weak compared to CT, beyond Bennati and Boonen. Both of whom seem only to be doing the Tour, so a missed opportunity for those 2 to really dominate a race, and the CT teams are prospering. Its an even worse move for the likes of Vanderbiest and Roelandts - maybe Bewley aswell if he is doing the Tour, whose only GT will be battling against better sprinters when if they had gone for either of the other 2, theyd have been the top sprinter.

That's exactly how I made my plans for the TTs and sent Cornu to the Vuelta. Knowing that Rogers will be in the Giro, Zabriskie, Coppel and most like Cancellara and Phinney in the Tour, I sent Cornu in Spain thinking he will have a great shot at winning the time - trials here. I guess I was wrong though.

Id argue it probably did work though. Cornu taking 2nd in the prologue, and probably still favourite for the longer time trial to come - chances are he wouldnt have got 2nd if the likes of Zabriskie, Coppel, Phinney, Rogers etc were riding.

We'll see, hopefully Cornu will win the next TT and he or Plaza will take the last one as well. 2 stage wins in a Grand Tour would be great for us.

Such a nice little train there, but Meyer left it to late. Would have been tough anyway but a podium and some bonus seconds would have been nice.

Freire and Guerao now become my 'enemies' then. The next stages profile looks like too much for Guerao, but not for Freire.
And wow a Vesuvio rider up in 6th with 1km to go, probably Hopman, so a shame he presumably sat up to completely dissapear down to 30th. And instead, Intxausti is 10th in a bunch sprint (Which is great news for the points classification should he do well over the course of the whole race)
I assume the likes of Cabrera and Medvedev had been relaying on the front, hence their time loss?

Indeed ... the sprinters field at the Vuelta really is weaker than the sprinters field at a number of CT races this season
