Russian guy (can't spell his name), was about 8 bike lengths behind heading into the back straight, and went and won it. Sireau perhaps slowed slightly, but not enough to call this a fluke.

It was an amazing finish from that russian. But in my opinion, I do still not have good knowledge about rules in track cycling, but why got the polish guy get DSQ'ed in the semifinal vs. the russian? To me, he just went faster than the russian, they were close to each other, but still, what did he do that deserved disqualification? To me he just looked faster...
It must hurt both him and the home crowd that he never got the opportunity to compete for the gold. |

Follow track cycling long enough, and you quickly learn that the officials will often make some questionable, and sometimes plain wrong decisions

Apparently he swung down too quickly, which is a load of rubbish.
Either way, it took guts to DSQ a Pole on polish soil.
Like SN said, rulings in track are often questionable at best.

So, back from the Manchester World Cup.
The Mens Sprint being a highlight, Jason Kenny beating Chris Hoy 2-0 in the semis, only to close 1-2 to Sireau in the Final.
Rohan Dennis beat Geraint Thomas in the Individual Pursuit, but Thomas went out very hard and quick in the final, only to fade - so it was a great race.
And the Elimination Race was fun to watch aswell. Elia Viviani beating Ben Swift by the closest of margins at the end.
I had a new camera in use aswell, so Ill probably upload the pick of the photos at some point

Well consider that he is targeting London 2012, not Manchester 2011 - and in the short term, his form is more likely to peak at this years Worlds rather than here. He'll still be very tough to beat in the Keirin, and ultimately here, he was only beaten by a Brit - so thats no bad thing.
I do think theres a very strong possibility that Kenny rides the Sprint in 2012, not Hoy. With Hoy in the Keirin, and both in the Team Sprint.
And Im hoping Ben Swift soon realises that the track is not for him, and he should focus in the road. He may have been 2nd on the Omnium elimination, but struggled in the points race

And there we go, Hoy wins the Keirin - almost all others in the final crashing behind.
Very nasty injury for the Malaysian Awang, a splinter from the track went all the way through his leg.

Someone from HK won a race, yay.
I hope Awang gets well soon, he was officially given third, not often you see that happen for someone who was stretchered off the track

Yeh, Hoy won easily, Nibblett just stayed up for 2nd, and then it was a mad scramble behind for 3rd amongst those who crashed. Awang was quickly on his bike again to just beat the Pole for 3rd, before then collapsing again.
Amusingly, the Spaniard tried to barge past the Kiwi, but fell over in the process, and then had to go back to get his bike anyway

Oh did Awang and the pole get back on their bikes?
The BBC footage made it out that the Kiwi's sprint was for third, and I assumed that the other 3 had all been DQed

Yeh, they mistakenly thought that at first (Only glimses of Awang and the Pole were there in the first few angles they had). A few minutes after that, they showed the video from the finish line camera though - and there it became clear.
It even took the UCI commissaires a few attempts to get the right result.
