Santos Tour Down Under
Stage 4
Today's stage of the Santos Tour Down Under is set up for a bunch sprint from the start, as it is flat all the way after a reasonably hilly first half of the stage. It is going to be a crucial day in the deciding of the points classification, if not the overall winner of the 2010 TDU!
It was an 8 man breakaway who got over the hilly first half a lead of over 10 minutes! The highest placed rider in the break was Guesdon of FDJ, who was just 15" behind.
No teams wanted to bring the breakaway back in, so everyone on Team Milram except Gerald Ciolek were working as hard as they could to catch the leaders and keep the yellow jersey.
Fortunately, while the breakaway just about survived as Baden Cooke of Saxo Bank won the stage, the peloton led home by Ciolek was close enough for no time gaps to be counted, meaning the GC and points classification remains unchanged.
Tomorrow's stage is the hardest day of the tour, and it is going to be very stressful indeed!
General Classification
1. Ciolek - Milram
2. Goss - HTC-Columbia +0"
3. Dumoulin - Cofidis +9"
4. Davis - Astana +12"
5. Napolitano - Katusha +15"

Santos Tour Down Under
Stage 5
As was mentioned in the previous post, today's penultimate stage of the TDU is easily the most difficult. It will be a very stressful day for Team Milram, as they fight on the 242km of hell against the likes of Stijn Devolder, Andreas Kloden and Johnny Hoogerland to keep the leaders jersey. I imagine that today will be the day that decides the tour.
After most of the early attacks in the stage came to nothing, it was 8 riders including Milram's Luke Roberts who got away and stayed away until the first major climb, when they struggled and fell back into the peloton.
Another attack came shortly after, and Luke Roberts went again, giving his home fans a thrill. He was in good breakaway company with Benoit Vaugrenard and Xavier Florencio. Sadly shortly after Florencio attacked and the group exploded, meaning Roberts fell backwards into the bunch once more.
At around the 60km to go mark the short, steep climbs quickly came one after another. Everyone on the team was struggling. Stroetinger was in the A3 group, Forster in the A2 group and everyone just about clinging onto the back of the peloton.
With 10km to go the only remaining Milram rider in the bunch was Gerald Ciolek, when the attacks from the stage favourites started, including Karsten Kroon, Stijn Devolder and Andreas Kloden.
Sadly, Ciolek couldn't keep up, and stayed in the small peloton. Kroon won th stage and took the leaders jersey with Ciolek now in 14th 2'19" behind the race leader.
Going into the final stage all our hopes rest on a points jersey win. Can we win the stage and take the jersey?
General Classification
1. Kroon - BMC
2. Devolder - Quick Step +8"
3. Kloden - RadioShack +10"
4. Kern - Cofidis +32"
5. Gutierrez - Caisse d'Epargne +32"
14. Ciolek - Milram +2'19"
74. Eichler - Milram +7'48"
75. Wrolich - Milram +7'48"
77. Roberts - Milram +7'48"
80. de Vocht - Milram +7'56"
82. Forster - Milram +8'04"
130. Stroetinger - Milram +15'08"

Santos Tour Down Under
Stage 5
Today is the final stage in the Santos Tour Down Under. While the leaders classification is now out of reach, the overall points classification is still there to be won by our man Gerald Ciolek who will wear the white jersey as the leader of the UCI ProTour in today's stage.
There were some short, steep climbs in the first half of today's stage allowing a breakaway of 9 riders to escape before the descent into Adelaide where the stage will finish after a few laps around the city.
These riders had to be caught as they could stop us winning the points classification! Would they be reeled in by the peleton? Fortunately, after a hard push from Eichler, De Vocht and Wrolich they were caught with just over 10km to go. Our sprint train took shape perfectly, could we do it!?
Stroetinger took Roberts and Ciolek to 5km to go before Roberts lead out Ciolek perfectly. Ciolek began the sprint at 2km to go and no-one was anywhere near him - we'd done it! We'd won our third stage of the tour and the points classification!
Ciolek finished 12th best overall, the top sprinter, and 3rd best in the young rider competition. Happy day for Team Milram!

Vuelta a Mallorca
The next big race on the calendar for Milram is the Vuelta a Mallorca which starts today. We are bringing a strong lineup to the tour which includes Knees, Gerdemann, Rohregger, M. Fothen, Schroder, Voss, Forster and Knaven.
Stage 1
The Vuelta a Mallorca starts with a number of laps around Palma in a flat 113km stage. We will be looking to Robert Forster to try and win us the stage.
It was the first race of the season for a number of riders today, including German champ Christian Knees.
There were attacks early on but on wide roads on a stage like this they were never going to escape the rampaging peloton, and it came down to a bunch sprint. Could Forster do the business?
Servais Knaven pulled Forster until the last 5km, when Forster jumped onto the wheel of Cofidis' Remi Pauriol. Forster sprang into action with 2km to go, and seemed to have the sprint won before Filippo Pozzato of Katusha came up on the inside to win the stage, with Forster 2nd.
Not a bad start to the Vuelta a Mallorca...

Tour of Qatar
It is another strong team for the Tour of Qatar from Milram, which includes Gerald Ciolek, Niki Terpstra and Luke Roberts. As all the stages in this Tour are completely flat, we hope for a good performance from Ciolek, hopefully the overall win!
Stage 1
The Tour of Qatar kicked off today with a short TTT around Doha. As we are a team with very few good time triallists, we just hope to be not too far away from the leaders for Ciolek to still be in with a chance of winning the Tour.
We didn't perform too badly on today's stage, with Milram coming in 30" behind winners Team Saxo Bank. This means that with some good stage wins from Ciolek, we can still win the tour.

Try to take pictures without that white circle underneath your riders, it looks so much better without.
I may look happy, but honestly dear. The only way I'll really smile is if you cut me ear to ear

Vuelta a Mallorca
Stage 2
Stage 2 of the Vuelta a Mallorca looked flat and a simple stage, but it was far from it!
A large breakaway got away early on in the stage, and with just under 50km and a 4' lead to the peloton, Milram's Markus Fothen attacked off the front of the breakaway and tried to go alone.
Sadly he was caught with 12km to go after some serious pacemaking on the front of the peloton. This pacemaking meant that a lot of our riders were tired and an effective sprint train could not be built.
Forster did as best as he could linking up with other team's trains but could only manage 20th on the stage in a disappointing result for Milram. He is still high up overall though, in 3rd position 28" off the leader Pozzato.
What's more, after his great solo effort on today's stage, Fothen took the maximum 15 points to sail into the lead in the king of the mountains classification.

Tour of Qatar
Stage 2
The Tour of Qatar is interesting in that all of the stages are incredibly flat and are on long, wide roads. This can mean that a high wind speed can easily rip apart a peloton.
In usual blustery conditions on the open roads, there were four brave men who decided to attack the bunch, including Milram's Dominik Roels. After a while out front, it became clear that the breakaway would not succeed, but rather than sitting up and falling back to the peloton, Roels took his energy bar and drove harder than ever.
This was in an attempt to rip apart the chasing peloton, and it succeeded. Roels fell back into an incredibly select bunch of only a few riders out front with 10km to go. Included in this group were Ciolek and his two lead-out men, and Garmin-Transition's Tyler Farrar. Who would win the sprint?
Despite the tough day's racing, it was a dream lead-out. Eichler drove up the pace with 10km to go, making the lead group even smaller. Stroetinga took over with around 5km to go leaving Ciolek to sprint away in the last km to win the stage and take the sprint jersey, reducing the gap to the race leader dramatically to only 13".
Just to show Milram's domination of this stage, the lead-out train leader Eichler took 10th on the stage, and lead-out man Stroetinga 5th!
After the stage, Milram directeur sportif Hotchip95 said: "It felt great to be winning again. It has to be one of my favourite wins of the season so far as we got our tactics absolutely right. We knew that it was windy and with a strong breakaway ride the peloton would rip apart, leaving our strong flat riders at the front of the bunch. It was an excellent day and we look to take advantage of the windy conditions in the next few stages "

Vuelta a Mallorca
Stage 3
Today's stage of the Vuelta a Mallorca is flat for the first half until it kicks up for two tough climbs in the second half of the stage. Could it be a day for Christian Knees or Linus Gerdemann in the Milram blue to take away a good result? Let's hope so!
On the tough second climb the day's breakaway were caught by the peloton, and with 5km to go to the summit, Milram's Linus Gerdemann decided the time was right to make an attack. Knowing that the young German had taken the yellow jersey by attacking like this in the 2007 Tour de France, Alexandre Vinokourov and Denis Menchov took no risks and followed Gerdemann.
This group managed to get a good lead of the peloton and amazingly, Gerdemann was managing to keep up with both Vino and Menchov! That was until disaster struck with 10km to go, when Gerdemann fell off, losing 1'58" to stage winner Denis Menchov.
However, with no injuries sustained in the fall and two days left in the hills in the Vuelta a Mallorca, Gerdemann will be hungrier than ever to ride with the best once more. Watch this space!
General Classification
1. Menchov (RAB)
2. Vinokourov (AST) +8"
3. Izagirre (EUS) +12"
4. Gomez Marchante (ACA) +20"
5. Pozzato (KAT) +40"
10. Rohregger (MRM) +1'20"
13. Schroder (MRM) +1'20"
15. Knees (MRM) +1'20"
27. Fothen (MRM) +2'16"
41. Gerdemann (MRM) +2'18"
113. Voss (MRM) +6'22"
132. Forster (MRM) +9'52"
143. Knaven (MRM) +11'48"

Tour of Qatar
Stage 3
It was another very flat day on stage 3 of the Tour of Qatar, and after our incredible victory the day before, we decided to try the same trick again - drive up the pace of a breakaway forcing the peloton to then chase and sprint so we could win the sprint.
So we did - it was Markus Eichler who was our man in the breakaway alongside two other brave riders. The breakaway kept pushing hard, and eventually got a lead of around 5' back to the peloton. It was then however, just over the half way point of the stage that the peloton began to catch the three leaders.
Just to make the peloton have to work that little bit harder, Eichler took his energy bar and attacked off the front of the breakaway group in a very bold move. Neither of his breakaway companions could catch him.
Amazingly he began to pull away from the peloton, and had a 3' lead over the splitting peloton as he came under the 10km to go banner! Could he do the impossible?
He was slowing down at an incredible rate having led the race for almost the whole day, but he managed to hold on and win the stage by 1'28", with Ciolek in 3rd and Stroetinga 8th!
Eichler takes the overall classification lead by over a minute, a lead which we should easily be able to defend with the remaining three flat stages!
General Classification
1. Markus Eichler - Team Milram - 6h24'54
2. Alex Rasmussen - Team Saxo Bank - +1'26"
3. Matti Breschel - Team Saxo Bank - s.t.
4. Fabian Cancellara - Team Saxo Bank - s.t.
5. Laurent Didier - Team Saxo Bank - s.t.
Points Classification
1. Markus Eichler - Team Milram - 43
2. Gerald Ciolek - Team Milram - 41
3. Allan Davis - Astana - 40
Team Classification
1. Team Milram - 18h55'05
2. Team Saxo Bank +57"
3. Caisse d'Epargne +1'02"
