I think every rider would like to win this classic. Me too, at least. Amstel Gold Race is one of the best classics on the UCI calendar. To write my name on that one day race, is a dream, "says Sanchez.
The 26-year-old leader of the individual world rankings,missed the Amstel Gold Race the last 2 years. "But I know the race. Previously I have ridden it one or two times. But without a decent outcome as result. I hope that this time will be different. I'm in great shape and am very motivated. "
Sánchez, a decent climber and very strong time trialist, starts this time with a different motivation. He wishes to consolidate or reinforce his leadership in the world ranking. "In our team the team leader is Alejandro Valverde in principle for the classics. So also in the Amstel Gold Race, where everyone will ride on his wheel. But I can probably benefit. Not only is he my fav rider, hes in form aswell, performances in Paris- Nice and Tour of the Basque country proves that, he has to be the favourite. |

Could Ivanov do a wonder again? Possibly... I think the surprise of the year could be Hoogerland, Gerrans or van Garderen.
