Stage 4, Ejido - La Azulita
img406.imageshack.us/img406/6705/pcm0001is5.jpg

A designated hilly stage today. It will be a fairly hard stage though, with a mountain-top finish in La Azulita. However, with around 38kms gone there has been no attacks at all and Herrera Cortés was getting bored, so he decided to liven the day up with a solo.

img260.imageshack.us/img260/4190/pcm0002vn9.jpg
Herrera Cortés goes clear of the bunch

This solo however didn't go exactly to plan as, after around 10kms soloing, it wasn't a solo anymore, he had been joined by 9 others making a lead group of 10.

img111.imageshack.us/img111/5761/pcm0003ab5.jpg
The group contains Ciccarese, Anza, Chacon, Herrera Cortés, Zárate Estrada, Parra Colada, Serina, Gónzalez Barrera, Pérez Rosa and Mayorga

They reach the bottom of the climb with a lead of around 2'00", but that lead isn't enough and after around 5kms they are passed by the favourites.

img510.imageshack.us/img510/9338/pcm0004pl9.jpg
José Chacon, Franklin Chacon (from the break), Yeison Delgado

Calderón tried to follow the attacks but with Chacon and Delgado being much better climbers he couldn't get onto the wheel, and was even taken back by the peleton.

With the 2 Chacon's being teamates this was obviously a plan from before the race, Franklin put a furious pace on the little group, and his plan worked. José Chacon saw that Delgado was feeling the pace and attacked. He was never seen again. This was also a moment for Calderón to ttacl, from his group, he got a gap, and kept increasing it going solo.

img113.imageshack.us/img113/2230/pcm0006ew1.jpg
Chacon wins in front of Delgado

Calderón was still going solo, and very close to the finish, if he could maintain this gap he would finish 5th on the stage and move up drastically in the GC.

img179.imageshack.us/img179/1212/pcm0007kw3.jpg

Calderón finishes solo and this is also the sign for José Ibáñez, Elder Herrera Cortés, Franklin Lopéz Blandon and John Fredy García to attack from their relative groups, they all got gaps and some even bridged up to gaps in front. A great performance by the Frugos riders, with a lot of them finishing above way better climbers than themselves, like Calderón

It is worth mentioning that after the TTT all my riders were in the 40's in the GC and around 1'40" back, so where Calderón is in the GC is a very good accomplishment.

Stage 5, La Azulita - Bailadores
img519.imageshack.us/img519/8522/pcm0001ri0.jpg

Another stage, another mountain-top finish. This stage is harder than the other one though, as this is granted a full mountain stage status. Chacon have been great so far and Delgado has always been on his wheel, can Delgado overcome Chacon, or can someone else get in the mix.

img169.imageshack.us/img169/4104/pcm0002my9.jpg
I know cyclists have improved their bike handling skills, but come on!! Well at least they're keeping themsleves out of the wind

After 3 kms the stage already has a breakaway, well breakaways. 3 riders have attacked but are all doing solos, with around a 30 second gap between themselves. A great tactic, this will definatley workFrown

img113.imageshack.us/img113/4599/pcm0003aa8.jpg
Torres Castro, Montiel and Moser are the 3 soloitsts today

With 75kms to go the gap is at 6'30" to Castro, he hasn't got a cat in hell's chance of making it. At the 1st KOM point my point is confirmed, with 40kms to go, the gap is 2'30". Once everyone is over the 1st KOM point there is an attack!!!!

img124.imageshack.us/img124/7668/pcm0004tu5.jpg
Attack by John Fredy García!!!

He has been feeling great all day, easily keeping up with the pace and probably doing better than our leader Calderón. He was doing great he had passed Castro and was now 1st on the road, he could win!!, but then, with 10kms to the finish things went wrong...the favourites attacked!!!

img256.imageshack.us/img256/2904/pcm0005rm5.jpg
Chacon, Delgado, Rangel, Calderón and Ibáñez attack!!!

img409.imageshack.us/img409/6713/pcm0006xu2.jpg
Chacon, Delgado and Rangel have now overtaken García and are making there way to the top

Calderón and Ibáñez countered the Chacon attack but didn't have the strength to hang on and are now in a group 2nd on the road with 8 others. 4kms later Calderón had gathered his strength back and attacked again!!

Rangel gets dropped with 5kms to go and now Calderón is gaining on him. He has no chance of catching Chacon and Delgado, but if he can catch Rangel then he can get a podium finish.

img49.imageshack.us/img49/6688/pcm0007bx1.jpg
Chacon and Delgado, side by side, one of them will win, but which one???

Calderón is really gaining on Rangel, but unfortunatley the group behind is gaining on him also, and there are a hell of a lot more of them, it will be close.

img254.imageshack.us/img254/1318/pcm0008wt9.jpg
Chacon wins!!! again

With Calderón now entering the final 1.5kms the gap to Rangel was 50seconds, he could do it, but the group behind was gaining and he was starting to feel the burn. Plus i think the time gaps are wrong as they say the gap is 50seconds but Rangel is only 200m ahead. Anyway Rangel comes in 3rd as Calderón blew up during the final 500m, but will he even get 4th, he is in the red zone and the group behind features a couple of good sprinters????

img177.imageshack.us/img177/3523/pcm0009dd8.jpg

Calderón 4th, just!!!!!!!!

As with the other stage that was the signal to the other riders from Frugos to attack, and they did, all bridging up to the group in front. A great stage with a few of our team moving up places in the GC.

Huge time gaps in the GC, due to Chacon and Delgado's total domintaion. No chance of winning the GC for our boys unless Chacon and Delgado abandon. There is an outside chance for a podium though, as Rangel isn't the best climber and tomorrows stage is incredibly hard, and yes...another mountain-top finishWink

I had a bit of a panick on after this stage as i sudden't had a thought that a sponsor goal was to win the climbers jersey at this tour, but luckily that is for a different racePfft

yes, unfortunatley i have discovered now after 2 very short stories, that i am no story writer, i don't have the ability to keep motivated, as the report writing, and photo resizing, uploading etc. is to me very boring, and time-consuming

now i realise this may be the case for others, but what i didn't tell you before i started was that my longest ever story, through all the PCM's is 4/5th April 1st season with Ubbink (again embarrassed smilies would be nice)

so it's obvious that i am not a long career person, which is really annoying for me as for some reason i am unable to stick at things, i was hoping doing a story would help, but unfortunatley it made it worse. So thanks for the support, it was very nice to hear your comments, but i will now just read and comment on others' stories as i love reading them Smile

I never got that far in PCM1! I was a bit of a PCM-Noob then and just played with the database it came with. I played the Tour of Qatar over and over again with Davitamon Lotto, I created custom mountain tours to play as T-Mobile, and custom TT tours with continental teams apart from Credit Agricole, where I played as Wiggins and won Grin
