Santos Tour Down Under is the first Pro Tour event and pretty much the only stage race that it's made for sprinters. One of the main favorites seems to be Andre Greipel, who won the race in 2008 for the brand new team at that moment, High Road. His opponents aren't all really top sprinters, except maybe for Freire and Farrar, both real threats for the German.
Sky brought for this race a team made by sprinters and Down Under riders. Sutton and Henderson will be the main sprinters, still to be decided who is going to be the leader, while Gerrans is here to try to take a stage win in one of the 2 stages that look a little bit harder.
Team Sky for Santos Tour Down Under:
Kurt Asle Arvesen
Russell Downing
Simon Gerrans
Matthew Mayman
Greg Henderson
Lars - Peter Nordhaug
Chris Sutton

thanks Batista.
And skimaster, I didn't take Hagen here because I want my team to be lead by Aussies. Hagen will most likely start his season in Qatar.

The opening stage in Down Under is quite flat except a sort hills with c. 25 km before the finish. The main favorites are the same that are rated with the biggest chances to take the overall win: Freire, Greipel and Farrar.
Some important names took part in the day's breakaway, like Meersman, Arrieta, Velo or Quinziato, but it still wasn't enough to take a big advantage over the pack. Arrieta was the only interested in the KoM points, so he had no problems becoming the first King of the Mountains
At the end of the climb the escapes were caught and some new attacks started. The only one that managed to get away and stay in front for a few kilometers was Gasparotto. He was caught inside the last 10 kilometers
The hill proved to be quite steep and some of the sprinters were in trouble there, including Henderson. So with Henderson at the back of the pack it was only Arvesen and Sutton who could have done something for us
Arvesen was quite fast, sometime Sutton had troubles following him, and put the Aussie champion in a nice position for the sprint, right behind Pronk, who was leading the pack with 2 kilometers left
But the hill also affected Sutton and it was almost impossible for him to pass the Vacansoleil rider, while on the other side of the road the big names were coming fast from behind: Farrar, Duque, Freire and Lorenzetto
And it was Freire who took the first stage in Down Under. He was followed on the podium by Duque and Farrar, while Sutton finished 9th at his first race as the new Aussie National Champion.

If there is a really flat stage i´m sure you will get a top 5 result!
It´s not surprising me when your riders just have a fitness about 50 it´s the first important race this season so you can´t expect fantastic results
but just go on i already love your story!
Hope for a story like columbia, that was unbelievable. Moreover i´ve learned many things from you in storywriting. |

Yeah usually TDU is one of my weakest races of the season, especially because of the riders' weak fitness

Freire won the opening stage, but Farrar and Greipel want the revenge, especially the German who wasn't able to finish in the top 10 yesterday. For us this should be an more interseting stage as the only hill of the day is placed at more than 40 kilometers before the finish, which will give Henderson and Sutton more time to recover
Turgot was the only escape of the day so we had no chance against the pack today. He managed to pass the only climb of the stage in front and take the 2nd place in the KoM rankings, behind Arrieta
The climb proved to be more important that it was expected as a group of circa 40 riders got away from the pack. Freire, Farrar and all the Sky riders, except Matthew Hayman, where there
With just 20 kilometers left the front group lead by Rabobank, Garmin and Lampre has more than 2 minutes advantage over the chasing group, where we have some important names like Greipel, O'Grady, Bos, Plaza, Brajkovic or Vaitkus to name just a few
This could have been a great opportunity for us to make a really strong sprint train, but Sutton had some problems following Henderson's wheel and he lost the contact with Arvesen and Greg. Yesterday's winniner, Oscar Freire, also had problems finding the best position
In front, Arvesen is doing once again a very good job, leading Henderson to the first positions in the pack. The bad news could be that Farrar got Henderson's wheel, which puts him in a very good position, maybe better than our riders'
When the sprint started, Arvesen was leading the pack, but Henderson had some problems following him as he was caught behind the Lampre train
Still he managed to get away from there with the help of David Le Lay. Farrar is still right behind him
Inside the last kilometer Le Lay is laeding but both Farrar and Henderson look settle to overtake him
Farrar had a great acceleration in the last kilometer and took a comfortable win. Le Lay managed to hang on to the second place, while Henderson finished 3rd, bringing Sky the first Pro Tour stage podium. The second group at 2 minutes and a half behind the first one which means that the winner of this year's Santos Tour Down Under is one of the riders that finished in the leading group today.

Batista put the results from the excel file using the table button, which is between the youtube and spoiler one. Also maybe this can help you.
Gerrans didn't lose any time. The only rider that wasn't in the leading group was Hayman, as mentioned in the report.
