Ginanni has the Tour of Britain, Giro del Lazio and Giro del Piemonte still to come. A big showing in the Tour of Britain would be nice. It's a race that should suit him.
Vespa are still racing Paris-Bruxelles, Tour of Britain, Duo-Normand, Paris-Tours, Giro del Lazio, Grand Prix d'Isbergues, Milano-Torino and the Giro del Piemonte. (And the Tour of Ireland too - outside chance that Napolitano can win that.)
I've not given up on promotion yet - but it'll be tough.
EDIT - Also, having followed the PT with Eurosport, any of these teams who go up are going to need serious strengthening in the transfer season.

They will need strengthening yes, but theyll have a nice big space in their salary cap to fill with riders, one of the benefits of going ProTour. And there are also a few PT teams who arent that much stronger themselves.

I'm just thinking of who I'd want to sign if it was me.
First thing any of them need is a top quality stage racer. Valverde and Menchov would be the names I'd think of first.
Then of the teams who'll go down Devolder and Gomez Marchante.
Should be some scraps over transfers. |

4 teams go up, 2 go down, and only Menchov is currently free.
Although it really depends what happens to the PT standard riders in the CT.

My feeling is that when it comes to contract renewal time, Valverde, Devolder etc might be extremely difficult to hang on to if the team is not in the PT.
The likes of Ginanni and Gilbert maybe too - but in the PT, Valverde would be far more valuable due to his mountain ability. For me, the hilly specialists would be a bit of a waste of time for a PT team if they can't also climb.
Just my feeling. I'm sure Ginanni will ask for a shed-load of money anyway. |

I would say next season's new PT teams will have a great chance at success. When i was promoted, my best rider was Wegmann and I really had no leaders to speak of. Same with Sony i believe. Not to sound arrogant, but with some luck and planning you can rise from the bottom to the top in this game. This year the 3 bottom squads are 2 PT holdovers and one that rose from the CT "artificially". The top ranked CT teams that were promoted look safe barring a large turnaround.
Now, it seems as if many of the top CT teams have 1 PT level leader. Combined with the growth in strength of the CT, and unpredictability of transfers, these teams will have a great shot. I can see some PT teams having to shed some really good riders because of the salary cap or being unable to bid on the quality ones available.

You say that but Hagen did really well in the classics and Ginanni is just as good. Gilbert and Kessler less so. Also I can see Evans and Brajkovic going back up, also with a few riders on the decline, and no doubt a couple more new teams, the transfer season will be pretty intense.
Also I don't own Valverde, he is on loan so he is not automatically on the market.
EDIT: sorry was responding to fenian

Wikipedia are without doubt the prime example - since not only was your best rider only Wegmann, you didnt even keep him for your season anyway.
At the bottom of the ProTour this year, ignoring British Airways, are Eurosport, American Suzuki, Unicef and Warner Brothers. Its no coincidence that these 4 teams were the 4 worse non-relegating teams last season.
Of those who promoted, B&O are lowest, but still safe - and they didnt really make any big signings in the Transfers, they kept with Pluchkin and Hagen and its worked. White Bear were the weakest team to promote, they even sold their team leader Kohl, but are doing well for themselves - while p3druh has turned SIC Radical from the worst continental team when he took over them, to a Top 10 PT team, in 2 seasons.
4 teams will go up - and yes next season there will be 4/5 going down, rather than 2 - but I am confident that at least 1 of the promoting teams will stay up.

You missed the point of the post, mb2612.
Someone like Ginanni would do well in the hilly classics in the PT. But he doesn't have the mountain stat to do well in most of the shorter multi-day stage races in the way that Sammy Sanchez, Cunego or Schleck can. Therefore I'd say that kind of rider is alot less valuable.
Anyway, the riders I've mentioned are the kind that the teams going up will need to do really well in the PT. And the bidding wars may be even more intense than last season. |

I think the best way to do good in the transfers is sending a lot of private messages suggesting transfer and not beeing afraid of trading riders, which is the reason I didn't do that well after promotion last time, cause I simply don't like sending pm:s that much.

If all was fair, all dealings would be done in public view. But because of PMs and MSN thats just not going to happen, so yeh, its always worth sending PMs if you want a rider somebody has - or else they might just do a deal using that rider with another team, and do the annoying thing of refusing to then listen to better offers
