Low Point: Valverde & other proven dopers that were/are still allowed to race. while others get tossed immediatly.
I'd Rather forget...: Gesink failed Tour & Vuelta due to falls. hopefully next year a GT win
I won't forget...:Menchov (How many times did he crash this year?)
Best point of the season: End Season Gilbert
Race of the Year: Epic Route, Unexpected Finish: WC
Rider of the year: Andy Schleck : strong season only too bad he didn't race the vuelta.
Surprise of the year: Hoogerland (a good cobbler as climber).
looks to be a future great
Disappointment of the year: Greg van Avermaet: when will the major breakthrough come?
Young Rider: Andy schleck . Performs much better then Contador at the same age

I'm laughing pretty hard at this point
Just to clarify: it's that your "low point" is riders winning from breakaways and your high point is when a rider from your country won from a breakaway.
Partial much?

Low Point: Thomas Dekker Saga. Big talent lost for cycling, plus the credibility of the sport by the public eye took another major hit.
I'd Rather forget: The Tour de France. The route put together was awful by any standard.
Memorable Points: Johnny Hoogerland's late season raid. Was utterly ridiculous, in a good way of course.
I won't forget: A lot of things obviously. Carlos Sastre's two Giro stage wins were incredible for me as a big fan of the guy.
Best point of the season: Matti Breschel's victory in the Danish National Championships was very memorable for me.
Race of the Year: Worlds RR! No doubt. Especially Matti Breschel's performance litterarily kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the finale. I'd never been shaking in excitement because of a cycling race before that day.
Rider of the Year: I can't see how you can argue that guy not being Mark Cavendish.

- 2 stages against the best stage racers in the world at the Vuelta a Castilla y Léon
- Klásika Primavera ahead of Nibali, Cunego, Schleck, etc.
- Shows up at the spring classics completely out of shape to work for a teammate and still finishes 7th on the Mur de Huy and 20th in the other two.
- 4th at the Tour de Romandie again against many of the best in the world
- Won Catalunya again against most of the best
- Won the Dauphiné against even more of the best
- Won the Vuelta a Burgos against a good field
- Led the Vuelta for most of it and won it with comfort and mastery
- Top ten at the worlds
That's consistent riding at the very highest level, all season long.
I don't like Valverde, but I don't see how you argue that someone other than him was the best....especially someone who was clearly beaten for speed at the Giro against a man who's past his best

True, but no other dominated his 'field' like Cavendish did. I don't see how you can argue that

Valverde won all three races he aimed for. I can't see how that's not domination

i personally think you should look more overall. who is skilled best in all categories.
A rider who is decent in the mountains,an epic TT, good puncheur + a good cobbler stands higher then a superman in the sprints (my personal view)

Everything changes when a Norwegian is in the breakaway.

Impressive, yes.
However, but half of that was against crappy opposition. Every single one of Valverde's results came against great opposition.

Lets take two big ones...
Dauphine.. all aces for there to prepeare for TdF..heck even Contador helped him to win.
Vuelta..he was only team leader who was riding he's season first GT there.
(he was impressive..and finaly won a GT)
Also was great all season.. and choosed bad year to shine.
About Cav...I believe it was he's career best season. It will be damn hard for him to win Milan - San Remo again..

Agreed. Still isn't easy to win in Dauphiné.
Guido Mukk wrote:Vuelta..he was only team leader who was riding he's season first GT there.
Nope. Samuel was riding also his first GT, and Gesink only rode the first week of the Tour. |

Low Point: Doping, as always (Valverde/Dekker/Di Luca)
I'd Rather forget...: last 5 k of PR
Memorable Points (for good or bad): Contador cracking, Di Luca vs Menchov
I won't forget...: Being in Mendriso to see Evans win
Best point of the season: Giro last stage
Race of the Year: Giro
Rider of the year: Contador/Haussler are my picks because they need more of a mention.
