To be honest, I haven't noticed this as being a problem. Maybe it's because I usually look through forums which are much more plagued by spam posts, thus making this one look better than it actually is.
I agree, though, that there's several better ways to show who the valuable members are - e.g. 'karma', which is used on many of the newer / more updated forums. I also agree that the number of posts never can nor will give the full picture.
If I find some time, I'll look into the issue and see what we can change. |

I love this forum,
However I think it takes away from it that there is something underneath everyone's avatar (Stars and Posts) that also quantifies how "valuable" they are as a forum member (Whether there's an actual reward or not) and it encourages people to post on every thread they see and try to be the most recent post on all of the posts on the main page, and to ultimately make either irreverent or unproductive posts or to make a post saying absolutely nothing such as "I agree completely" or "Oh yeah, I like him too blah blah blah."
Not saying those kinds of posts are always done with that motivation or that they never contribute to the discussion at hand, but a lot tend to be.
I also think everyone should be able to speak their mind here and not get flamed for a differing opinion, which is why I'm taking the time to write this
Edit 1: I also think it makes other members who have been around the forum more disregard those who only have a few posts and are relatively new, If someone's an active forum member then you'll know.

I heavily endorse this new activity/attraction/post/waterpark/monument (cross out appropriately)
I personally feel post counts "shift" respect away from people who deserve it and to people who don't. Respect should be earned by quality, not quantity.
That's my view, at least. I like forums where you can't see in any way if a member has 1 post or 127000. Makes it less biased.

I don't see this as a problematic thing and neither think that it is really relevant. I just don't care about how many posts I've writen, and I read posts without thinking "oh this guy has 78687875 posts, so he should be very [fill with something good]". Anyway, the possibility of voting if a post is good/bad/spam/etc and that karma thing which I don't fully understand seem good ideas. |

spelling it out like it is as usual isso (and you managed to hide your panic about everyone not being able to see your ~15000 posts well )
I reckon the karma system would be a good way to go Crue. See whos contributing valuable stuff even though I doubt I'll be figuring much.

You can't possibly be right,m you have less posts than me and so, your opinion is invalid
Seriously though, this thread has a good point, it happens on every forum though, not just here and i don't see a way to change it

From my experience, Karma seems to work very well as long as post count isn't displayed.

Maybe a karma system could work, or just no post counts, that way nobody will know. I don't think it's as bigger issue as it's made out in this thread though.

I didn't have the intention of conveying this as some huge issue when I made the thread, I was just trying to say that it's something that I find annoying and I was wondering what others thought about it is all.

I can remember talks about this in the past, and then Crue said it was not possible to remove the post count because it's part of the PHP code which the forum is based on.
But I can't find these posts... |

The problem is, with the ease of setting up an account here it is easy to just ramp up your karma.

Actually, there's usually a certain number of posts you can make (around 10 or 15 or so. not many at all) before you can give karma, precisely to prevent that situation

Karma stay a good solution.
I hope crue will find a good and definitive solution, but there a lot of chance that I will dream for nothing...

Why do I still see your posts then?
No seriously, a karma system would be good. Only problem is that people would give person x karma "because he gave me karma". And people leaving posts with "+karma" without anything constructive. But I'd prefer it over the current system though.
