RIP Frank VDB.
One of Belgium's great talents, but he couldn't cope with that status.
I remember he once said: "When I won LBL I was doped, but not more than the rest of the top 10." (or something like that) |

some guys just "burn" and live to fast..and is not made for "normal" life.
At the same time I envy and pity them. |

He was my hero.
I decorated the books with his pictures in the high scholl.
Some we see you won in Liege or in Avila, we dream ever since those attacks.
For those who remember him not only tell you that what makes today Cancellara on the plain, I saw VDB on all fronts.
never forget you.
You were always my hero. I decorated the books with pictures.

For those who remember him not only tell you that what makes today Cancellara on the plain, I saw VDB on all fronts.
I feel that this year La Vuelta not done any tribute-memory by 10 years of his victory in Avila. Since the days of Coppi not seen a similar exhibition. |

VDB was the greatest cycliste since the days of Sean Kelly.
Only a few cyclistes have hoarded so much talent like him |

I read Lucien Van Impe saying that he was too trusty towards people and that way ended up with the wrong people who got him into cocaine and that part of his life.

probably yeah. I know the place where he lived when he won LBL.
Ploegsteert it isn't a big town(rather small for a fact)
Mostly farmers live there
I always thought that sudden change in environment was the cause of the rapid decline in results

To sum up the major problem, according to an interview with one of his closer friends a while back:
He didn't really have a home at this point. That was a big part of the problem. Italy or belgium, he didn't feel at home in either place.
Another large part of the problem was that he and his wife/girlfriend.... couldn't stand to be apart, to the point of each of them attempting suicide when they were apart.
Yet they fought constantly whenever they were together.
Sad.

Wow, this morning I was just being bored out of my mind working. I went on Wikipedia and clicked Recent Deaths. Frank Vandenbroucke showed up. I have to say I really wasn't prepared for it even though I know he's had a bunch of problems. It took a little while before I actually realised what had happend.
Sad to see someone so talented pass away, RIP. |

He told the press beforehand he'd attack on La Redoute. Notice how even Bartoli can't follow him
