Time for the what-the-fuck fact of the day.
Drenthe wants to organize a world championship cycling in 2020.
And if you think that will be a flatter than flat worlds, no, not even that!
They are planning on building a cycling circuit on the old TT circuit (no longer in use) of 16.1km and, here comes the what-the-fuck bit, they are planning on creating an articial hill which "should challenge any cyclist from all levels".
An artificial hill/mountain...these guys are nuts |

Yeah, I read it a few days ago. Don't take it too serious.
Sure, they'd like that to happen but... I don't think it will.
A artificial hill, okay. But to make it challenging enough to drop Bos and Cav... nah, never going to happen in this country. There's going to be environmetalists saying it ruins the sigth, politicians not agreeing before 2050 etc. blah blah. |

Well, there's this motorway here, the A4. It goes from Amsterdam to belgium, but there's a few sections missing. These sections shouldvt been made back in the fifties, but it took politics until a few year ago to agree on it. Plans now are that it'll be finish in 2015-2020...
so 2050 is quite optimistic yeah! |

They created articial hills before, like the Vamberg (old garbage dump)
But to create a challenging hill, it should be at least twice as long as the Vamberg and at least 8% average with some serious steep ramps. Wonder how they want to build that.
I do think it's possible though. It will cost a shitload of sand/land/and thus, money. Maybe something for Qatar

That would be the biggest waste of money ever. Fine build it for the worlds, but once the worlds are done, then what? Makes no sense...

Olympics anyone?
I for one was glad that the Olympics aren't going to be in Chicago, I'd love it because I'd get to go to them and all but no country has ever made money from the Olympics to my knowledge and we don't need that right now.
And even if you break even on funds which I think is rare, if it ever even happens, then you end up with a load of facilities and things of the sort that are left empty afterward.
I went to Athens, Greece the year after they hosted the Olympics, and there were a lot of things done to make the city nicer and more tourist friendly but I kept hearing / seeing that there were a lot of things they spend tons of money on that were never used again.
So I guess my short response would be that wasting a lot of money on one-time things is nothing new.
Gotta stop writing so much I need to summarize at the end,
Shifty

Most countries do make money from them though. Tourism goes through the roof at olympics time, more people = more spending = more money.

Athens is famous for the "White Elephants" that has been left over from the Olympics. Why? The games went to the home of the olympics and then what? They planned NO legacy. Most other citites frequently use their events. (Beijing hasn't used their Athletics place, but frequently use the Water Cube, and the Velodrome).

Gerdemann's in hot water. The investigation into the T-Mobile team internal doping shows his haemoglobin fluctuated wildly.
Seriously, he's a guy who has proven several times he will stop at nothing to win and be "the hero" in germany, so clearly doping is something he'll do.
He also rode for Telekom and CSC.
He's also yet another Cecchini patient in hot water.

That is definately true. Here in Norway there are still loads of Japanese and Chinese people and tourists in general that visits Norway and Lillehammer only because they had the Olympics in '94. Actually it's quite funny (no offense to you that is Japanese..) to watch, all those from Japan that arrives in busses, takes 10-15 pictures and continues to the next attraction, takes 10-15 pictures and continues....
It gives me a nice feeling about Norway and that we mean something when all those tourists come to just take pictures |

Director of Tecos, Juan Manuel Navarro Flores, confirms that Michael Rasmussen will apply for Mexican citizenship. He also says, though, that Rasmussen will keep his Danish citizenship.
What he doesn't know is that that isn't possible. Danes can't have double passport. |

That's what happens when the extreme-right / nationalistic party decides everything.
The argument is that you don't love Denmark enough if you decide to apply for citizenship in another country, and therefore, you can only have one.

Weeks ago I tried to photoshop him a huge moustache and sombrero. I suck at photoshop, so I failed miserably

That rule is better than Hk where you can have dual citizenship only if you are ethnically chinese.
