But nowhere comparable to anyone else who came out of the relative nothing.
Even Isidro Nozal when he became 2nd in the Vuelta wasn't coming THAT much out of nothing like Froome. |

To my opinion the season says only 1 thing to me. That the riders are closer together. This is according to me a result of the progress in proffessionalism. Teams will better care for that their riders peak and have rest on good moments. Also to not let them ride to many days. Like we have seen with Contador. Winning the Giro and wasn't good enough for the tour. This is just because it isn't possible anymore because teams and riders are more focusing on goals. Look at our Tour winner. Didn't do much more than preparing for the Tour. That is what Armstrong did and that make him in a strong position.
So the improved professionalism at teams can be a big factor to the results. So Cobo and Froome maybe could have an ultimate preparation for the Vuelta. And Zaugg was just the fittest of the peleton at the GTL. So he win and well deserved i think.
I don't say the sport is totally clean but they are on a good way. Stimulate the teams then and don't try to break the moral of teams and riders with your suspicions. Support them and we will have one day a clean, unpredictable and professional sport. And lets celebrate the nice outcome of the GTL because i really enjoyed it. |

Unpredictable, with no one worrying or talking about dope (well, little did).
Too bad they started doping in 1998, good thing they were caught soonish though. |

They started doping in 1998?
You of all people should know the gigantic unreal increase in watts beginning 90'ties. Van Hooydonck was one of the first victims of that, where he was winning RVV before, he now couldn't even follow the 20 best, mainly Italians.
And in the Tour we saw a gigantic jump in mountain performances from 390 to 430W and beyond.
And thing of Gewiss and other doping system teams where a lot of average riders suddenly became superman |

I heard a rumour that doping was involved in the sport for some decades. That even the tragic death of Tommy Simpson had something to do with it.
