The goal for this stage was to avoid getting seen (especially in the rear end of the peloton)...
Success!

@BikeX It was actually only slightly uphill, like 2% or so. It was hard to see at the race profile, only at zooming in actually. That's why I only mentioned it that late

A shame he will only win the youth jersey from that list. |

Cannondale and races without Sagan aren't a great combination so far. |

still not a top 100, I'm demanding that Pyroli if you finish 112th or higher you above the 100 average
finishes 191th you're dissapointing now Pyroli. if you want to keep your first place in the average finish ranking you now need to finish lower that 110th. (yeah I keep that for my riders )

Ok, some words from me, guys as I've not been very active in the last days. I've been pretty busy. Sorry for that as there were no stages from Dauphine. But in the next days, I promise, there will be some more racing again.

Nice to see Accent get a top 10
? Anyway, that's a 5th goal failed I think Goss has a better chance of winning Philly than Sagan, due to our immense sprint train.

Welcome to the Philadelphia Cycling Classic!
In the coming hours it will be decided if big race favourite Peter Sagan can take the expected win. Or will Orica or Belkin, both with a number of quality riders here crush the plan of the Slovakian?
Let's go. The American champion Timothy Duggan (Saxo Tinkoff) leads the pack on the first metres of todays race.
After almost 40 kilometres of racing finally a group of four riders, Klier (Garmin), Reimer (MTN), King (Radioshack) and Butler (Champion Systems), manages to get a gap of over a minute to the peloton. So two Americans and two Germans to rule the early stage of this race.
It's all green in front of the peloton the Belkin boys, Vini Fantini and Sagan's domestiques take already care with 100 kilometres to go that the gap decreases to now 5'20''. Around ~10/20 kilometres ago, the gap reached it's summit point at 6'00''.
We bridge the next 60 kilometres and jump into an entertaining finishing phase. The first to show his cards is Leigh Howard (Orica) he attacks with 38 kilometres to go and is now 30 seconds ahead of the peloton and 1'20'' behind this mornings break.
His attempt would show unsuccesful. With 25 kilometres to go he is reeled back in. The break is showing strength and is still 1'15'' in front!
The penultimate time up Manayunk wall there is also movement in the break. Klier seems to be dropped but finds his way back very quick. The lead is at 1'08''.
In the break the next Orica rider Kruopis chooses the Manayunk wall as the place for his attack. He quickly establishes a lead of around 15 seconds.
But also his try would fail in the end. With 14 kilometres to go it's over for him. Is it now all in for Goss at the Australian team? Meanwhile the break is still 43 seconds ahead.
Next one: Gerrans. But he gives up very soon. His attack only meant game over for the break with 7,5 kilometres to go. It seems like we will get a mass sprint today. Sagan will be happy about that.
Orica is not happy with the prospect of a mass sprint. Their next attacker is their best sprinter at the same time. Matthew Goss with 5,5 kilometres to go.
One kilometre later Belkin finally shows themselves too. It is Sep Vanmarcke who powers out of the peloton with an incredible watts output. Goss is 15 seconds ahead.
With 2500 metres to go Goss and Vanmarcke unite and with their lead of 23 seconds they seem to have a decent shot at the win!
Behind Cannondale seems superior. Only De Negri of Vini Fantini is on one level with Sagan and his leadout Sabatini. Gerrans tries to catch Sagans wheel. Then there are also Brouwer (Belkin) and Finetto (Vini Fantini).
In the front Goss launched his sprint. Vanmarcke on his wheel.
Sagan is coming very fast out of the slipstream of his leadout under the red kite. The lead is already reduced to 13 seconds. Only the Vini boys Finetto and Gatto seem to be able to keep up. Manayunk wall starts now!
With 500 metres to go Sagan is on even level with Goss. Vanmarcke is done. Besides the already mentioned Oget (Movistar), Impey (Orica), Petit (Cofidis) and Kakhi (Champion Systems) contest.
This win can't be taken from the big favourite anymore. Vanmarcke is still ahead of Finetto and Gatto but is slower.
Sagan can already raise his arms before the line. He has taken the win in a dominate way.
Goss hangs on to second. Brouwer found some energy left and claims the last spot on the podium. Overall a good performance of Belkin with Vanmarcke just hanging on for fifth. Vini Fantini also with a respectable result with Gatto in fourth and Finetto in 7th. They could have been better both of them had a shot at the podium. Kakhi in sixth, he was for sure one of the fastest up Manayunk wall considering his bad position on the foot of the hill. Also a nice result in his home country for Maxime Oget. Orica overall showed themselves a lot and besides Goss on the podium they also get rewarded with Gerrans in ninth. He for sure could have done better if he hadn't attacked in the last kilometres. Adrien Petit rounds of the top 10!
