Garmin - End of 3rd Season - Continue in PCM11
VladuuTs
sagan it's showing you that you must sign with him =). anyway, too bad that goss missed the podium Sad

roturn
@Pellizotti: Thanks. Indeed quite bad as I hoped to win the stage. His form isn`t that bad actually. Biggest problem was that there were again lots of waves all over the stage. So Goss struggled on some of them. For some reason Napolitano obviously felt better. Wink

@VladuuTs: It could be a sign. But actually he already told Liquigas tht he won`t renew his contract. So he must show some great results to be more interesting for all the big teams.

Next stage will be from Kissaha. As I mixed the order a bit to have as similar stages as possible to the previous variant the stage names might be a bit strangely mixed.

Tour de Suisse - Stage 4
Vaduz - Serfaus

The favourites will have to show their form today. It`s not the hardest climb in the end but still the first opportunity to gain time on other riders.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-4-2.jpg
11 riders in a quite strong breakaway. Veelers (Skil), Traksel (Vacansoleil), Sieberg (NetApp), A.Efimkin (Ag2r), Finetto (Liquigas), Bertogliati (Androni) are soem of them. Especially Efimkin could be a danger as he can climb pretty well.

Contador has the overall lead and is also the top favourite. So all teams are looking on Astana to do the work. That`s quite a luxury problem for them with Soler, Schleck and Velits as helper in the mountains.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-4-4.jpg
The pace was quite slow on the first long mountain. So there were still more than 100 riders on the second mountain, where Astana improves the pace. Many riders now are falling back. 4 Garmin riders still in a good position but Kessiakoff and Löw won`t stay very long as they already ride on their limit.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-4-5.jpg
Just 23 riders were able to jump into the first group. Also Sanchez is still there of course. Unfortunately Stetina missed it as he struggled for a very short moment. He is now between this group and another big group and will fall back into the later one.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-4-6.jpg
Shortly before the last mountain sprint it`s Contador with an attack. Just Gesink tries to follow him. He obviously feels better than his team mate Andy Schleck.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-4-7.jpg
And Contador takes the win 15s to Gesink. With 2 mountain stages left this wasn`t the decision but a first big sign, who is going to win this race.

Sanchez finishes with 1'06 back. Unfortunately I made a stupid mistake and so he lost contact to the Astana and Leopard group with just +33s. This was definitely possible to stay with them. So Sanchez falls back on the 7th instead of being 2nd in the overall ranking. What a pity. ;(
But it`s easy to see how dominant Astana and Leopard are as also Euskaltel as next team with an very strong Txurruka today.

Thanks all. Astana and Leopard are very dominating over the whole race. Euskaltel was just seen in the end. Surprisingly Txurruka was very strong (76mo/76hi). He must peak at the moment. But without my own mistake I would have been somewhere between this 2nd group.

Tour de Suisse - Stage 5
Tubach - Schaffhausen

It`s officially a flat stage but with lots of hills in the end it`s not sure that all sprinters will be able to sprint in the end. Although Goss is peaking at the moment we will try to get one rider in the break. Especially Sagan and Ginanni won`t have big problems in the end and are the main favourites.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-5-2.jpg
In a very fast start 8 riders were able to create a gap. Murilo Fischer is our rider there after Millar`s try had no success.
Sijmens (Cofidis), Mata (Movistar), Voß (NetApp), Van Hummel (Skil), Blythe (Sky), Pavarin (Colnago) and Curvers (Vacansoleil) complete this group.
Voß, Sijmens and Fischer might be the best puncheurs.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-5-3.jpg
Meanwhile Lampre is doing the pace. With 60km to go it`s still 5'30 for the group. So it will be a close finish.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-5-4.jpg
But with 6km to go Voß gets caught last after most riders were caught 4km earlier in the hills.
LL Sanchez isn`t struggling at all and also Goss is showing how strong he can be. All other Garmin riders are struggling a lot including Kessiakoff, Löw and Stetina, who shouldn`t have that big problems on these hills.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-5-5.jpg
Goss really overtook Sagan and Napolitano on the last kilometer and wins the 5th stage. It`s his biggest win this season and one of his biggest in his career after lots of helper work in the previous years for HTC. Next season he will also get the chance to fight for the points jersey in one of the GT`s.
Also LL Sanchez proves his sprint skills, but actually most of the sprinters might have been exhausted due to the hard finish.
Biggest surprise is still Napolitano, who obviously found some unknown climbing skills.
Next 2 stages are hard mountain top finishes, so LL Sanchez will have to show something if he wants to improve.

Thanks all. Obviously Sagan and Napolitano are peaking. Probably they will be great in the tour, too if they are nominated. Hopefully Haussler can do better than. Wink

@sam1196: Thanks a lot. But there are also other great stories around like tsmoha`s Dark Dog`s. So there are a few stories that would deserve an adward.

Next report maybe this evening. Otherwise probably tomorrow.

2 awards you could win with this story. Story writer and Team story. I only see tsmoah topping this one.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-6-1.jpg
Another mountain stage with a hard finish. Hopefully Sanchez can gain some time again to improve.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-6-2.jpg
Just Clarke (Sky), Vona (Farnese) and Fario Da Costa (Movistar) in the break climbing the first hard mountain. Some other riders tried to follow but couldn`t stay on the mountain.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-6-4.jpg
Astana, Rabobank and Leopard are doing the pace. Contador and Gesink might be the strongest here but Ten Dam wasn`t that present so far.
In the background you can see all the beautiful mountains in this area. But the riders won`t have much time to have a look at the scenery.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-6-5.jpg
The whole Astana team including Velits, Schleck and Soler are doing a very fast pace now with the final climb coming. This will be a very high speed climb.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-6-6.jpg
Indeed it took just a few kilometers and the whole peloton was split into several pieces. Just 10 riders in the first group and Sanchez is not within them. He is as 13th in the background riding solo. The fast pace was too much for him and he felt back. Even more surprising that riders like Txurruka or Sörensen are still in the group.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-6-7.jpg
This time it`s Gesink with the first attack and just Contador can follow. Will this be the battle in the Tour, too? Or is Andy Schleck the main contender then?

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-6-8.jpg
But in the end it`s still Contador. He gains 9s on Gesink and 31s to Soler, who attacked later.
The first group around most other favourites finished with +1'10.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/TdS-6-9.jpg
Sanchez even lost 1'57 today. Not the best stage for us but at least Sanchez is still inside the top 10 and with a long time trial still coming he has good chances to stay there.
More important for us is that he will be in his best form during the Tour.

100 pages Banana

Not the best result with sanchez, but top10 overall is alright I guess

Thanks both. Top 10 is the minimum I want. One mountain top finish left and a hilly timetrial.

100 pages are just great. Thanks for all your comments.

Too bad Sánchez lost some time. I hope he can gain a little back in the final stages.

But most of all, huge congrats on reaching 100 pages! Great work! Banana
