(Race) Update
Hi there,
The Tour now finished about two weeks ago. Finally I started to really understand what happened there. I'm still not over it, it's so amazing. But I won't bore you with an overload of joy here again! Just a small update from me today!
I had a sit-down with my coach and the team managers, to discuss my future; the rest of the season and for the coming years.
Distant Future:
They confirm that Team Argos may well be a sinking ship and they understand I (we, with Stijn) have to go, to ensure a World Tour spot next year. It could be that Argos survives just fine, but we don't want to take any risks. They are releasing us of our contracts without any fines of penalties.
Vacansoleil and Garmin are the two major possibilities for us, with some other teams on the side. Vacansoleil was our first choice, but there's a chance they will delegate to Pro Continental Tour... If that's the case, we are better off in another team, that's guaranteed of World Tour races.
Near Future:
What I do the rest of the season is very important for the development of my career, said my coach. The season I've had, the stress and tough situations my body had to go to, was a major burden on my body. So, in discussion with everyone, we decided it would be best to stop my competitive season right here. In the next few months, we'll concentrate on specialized training. However, If I'm selected for the World Championships, I will ride some races to prepare for them, but preferably without exerting myself too much.
Hey everyone!
It's been so long since I've raced, it's killing me. Unfortunately, it's not over yet. The Eneco Tour starts tomorrow, but I'm not up for it. I have to be wise and forfeit, otherwise I might ruin a lot more than the Eneco Tour. Instead, I'll be starting in the Dutch Food Valley Classic, where I had my ninth victory last year (and again, I can get my ninth of this season!). I will be racing there, followed by the Hamburg Classic, Overrijse, Plouay, World Port Classics, Paris - Bruxelles and some more races in October (Paris - Tours...)
See you then,
Stijn |

Its sad that you both have to leave to be able to save a sinking ship, but when you do you can both hold your heads up high as to what you have achieved with Argos-Shimano
Next stop has to be Garmin |

TTspecialist - Garmin does sound right. Especially since I got the message that Wilco Kelderman has joined Garmin for a two-year contract
sutty68 - Team Argos and the two guys have had a beautiful relationship and helped each other out tremendously. Now it's time to part ways |

Dutch Valley Classic
Stijn: Last year I forced the win here. Now the cards are different, though. I've been out of competition for months. However, my back is perfectly okay and I feel fit. I don't really know how I stand though, so I'll be sprinting as well as possible. We'll see!
Stijn Van Gent
Either way it's great to be back. Tamboer went into the breakaway and saved us all a heap of work.
The team showed its complete confidence in me by setting up a strong lead-out for the sprint in the streets of Veenendaal!
Kristoff launched me, he had an absolute top day!
Just when I was about to launch my acceleration, Petit (NetApp) blocked me in! Very unfortunate, I still had a lot of punch left! But I wasn't going to take risks here, I've been injured long enough for one season.
About 40 meters from the finish, space opened up, but it was too late. In the end I finished third. Not bad for my return to the pack!

Well, this result makes me very optimistic about my second part of the season. I'll be racing about 10 more races before the season's finished, ambitious as I am, I want to win three more races, to have a total of 11 victories this year (1 more than last season).
I could've won today, which is very important for me, mentally. Last year I came close in Hamburg and Plouay, it'd be nice to take home the win in one of those races this year. Overrijse shouldn't pose a problem either.
See you in two days, in Germany,
Stijn |

Atlantius - Thanks His back seems all right!
sutty68 - Indeed. But the main thing is his form seems quite fine!
dienblad - He should've won, though Though Stijn is coming here every year and I think he'll continue to come here, he'll snatch away some more wins here over the years, don't worry about it |

Okay, at first, nice result for Stijn in Veenendaal. Some sprinters that have probably quite developed were ahead of them.
Secondly: YEEEAAAHH, GO TO GARMIN! WILCO KELDERMAN IS THERE, SIGN AT GARMIN!!
(This is less fun when people are expecting it btw )
And no, Wilco shouldn't be a water carrier, he should be co-leader with Willy. It would be amazing for me
@Luigi I'm no spammer. I just post a lot
Edit: Just checked, I'm over 3000 posts already. Well, there are some guys who post more, but my post count is developing quite fast now
