2 hours today. Absolutely shattered. Still, its more mileage so just got to keep building and it confirmed that I can't manage 18 hours a week yet.
Saddle height is an issue. Following Aquarius advice it needs to be higher, but that means I can't touch the ground very well when I stop. Any advice? |

It doesn't matter. I can't have :
my bike perfectly vertical
my ass on the saddle
touching the ground with my foot
all at the same time.
Clip off one foot before you stop, bend your bike and put your foot on the ground when you stop, or the other way round when you start riding (or "sit" on the horizontal tube, then stand on one pedal, clip on, and voilĂ ).
As written before, the ideal height is very close to pedaling backwards with your heels with straight legs at one point, but with your pelvis perfectly stable (not bending to one side or the other to keep your heel on the pedal). |

Been getting a little bit of pain in my back and quads after long rides. Should l raise the seat height, lower workload, or combination? |

Rather lower it than raise it I'd say. Try both if you're not sure (+ 5 mm or -5 mm - that's 0.2 inch for you ).
The quads seem more strange. Lactates ? Lack of stretching ?
The workload shouldn't cause that, unless the pain comes from too much lactate accumulated in the muscles. |

Pleasantly surprised that running Endomondo on my windows phone was trouble free and easier going on the battery than I thought it might be. Easy to import into Strava too. Would recommend it as a cost effective workaround for anyone on a Windows mobile.
Just need a waterproof mount now and I'm good to go and under achieve publicly |

Mount on the way and loving using Strava and Endomondo at last. Only problem being that with hundreds or even thousands of people riding all the climbs near here my chances of getting on the first page of any KOM are somewhat slim - not helped by riding a 13kg+ hybrid bike...oh and my general level of fitness
Looks like my relatively low spec battery will happilly run Endomondo for up to 10 hours so good to know that's a non issue.

Wearing cleats for the first time tomorrow. Been practicing against a wall at home clipping in and out. Always get my cleat in the first part where the front of the thing goes under the pedal, but have trouble getting the back part of the cleat to click in. Clipping out seems easy enough. Probably going to be a hell of a lot harder without assistance though. |

Clipping (the rear) in is easier when you cycle for real. Just do as if you were standing on the pedals and your weight does the job.
Remember to clip the rear out as soon as you've stopped pedaling when you know you'll need to put your foot on the ground. When you think about it too late... you tend to fall ! *shameful traffic lights memories* |

Made a few adjustments to the seat height. At first l was riding a BMX bike, or so it felt. Knee crunching! |

I was wondering about Strava distance or altitude challenges that last over a given period of time (say one month). Do the km you've done during the challenge period, but before joining in the challenge count, or do they only count from the moment you've decided to join ?
Strava's explanation seem a little ambiguous about that.
edit : damn that sig. image, it mixes runs and rides... not going to be that fast when I'll start running again

They count from the moment the challenge starts providing you upload them by the cut off period the challenge states, the Rapha Rising challenge gave you something like 2 days after it finished to upload your rides from the challenge period.

Just got my first road bike! Got a Reid Condor 2010!
Its got flatbars. Should I swap to drop-bars? Any significant advantages? |

Strydz : thanks. I might take part in the September distance challenge then.
thechudude : a little more weight, but a better aerodynamics for the cyclist, plus more variety for hands position, which may allow you either to lower your gravity centre (in descents/flat sprints), to relieve your back, to get a better aerodynamics or to more or less stretch your chest bones to breath better. |

Finally, my holiday!! I'll go to Limburg, Amstel Gold Race-country in a few days time, and I'll take my road bike with me. We stay at the summit of the Keutenberg (max 22%), and with a great weather forecast, there'll be some rides and climbing the Eyserbosweg, Cauberg, Gulperberg, Kruisberg, Camerig. Really looking forward to it!! (And my wife let's me, as long I go on enough trips with her and the 16-month-old son )

Managed 1849.5 k's for August but only 24,000 metres of climbing which I am not so happy about, the weather has not been great but we are just coming into spring here so its time to start going nuts!
dienblad: That sounds like a cracking holiday buddy, I am quite jealous

Don't know if this is on-topic over here, but anyway.
Yesterday I had the opportunity to be signalman at the Belgian national test TT.
This event was organised by the Belgian Cycling Union in order to determine who will defend the national colours at the WC TT in Florence in the lower categories. So no real big names over there, biggest names were Frederik Frison and Victor Campenaerts (LTB) and Yves Lampaert (TSV), but it still was a nice experience.
Some details:
Spoiler The route was 24km flat with strong wind.
U23 results:
1. Campenaerts Victor (LTB)
2. Lampaert Yves (TSV)
3. Frederik Frison (LTB)
I don't remember the times, but I do remember that it was very close and Campenaerts (Belgian and European champion TT) rode an average of 48km/h.

Nearly got hit by an imbocile yesterday. People need to understand that the shoulder of the road is for broken down cars or cyclists, not idiots. |

I moved to Austria and Innsbruck this week for the next six months, and discovered that the climb up to Hafelekar and Station Seegrube is my closest neighbour. Did the climb to Station Seegrube (1905 meters) yesterday, starting at around 575 meters, and it was just amazing.
The climb is about 10 kilometers long, and the final six kilometers or so are on gravel roads. I didn't bring a bike computer with me, but I'll guess the steepest sections are about 25-30 %.
It was just an amazing climb I'll recommend to anyone off you that has the chance to do it. The view is spectacular once the landscape opens up and there are less trees. At Station Seegrube it was pretty nice indeed, I've definitely found a new friend
I've added a photo I took from the Station Seegrube, which shows the final 1200 meters or so, and the steep gravel roads.
