Pellegrini continues to prove he's an idiot:
Reporter: "It was pretty much a man-for-man substitution"
Pellegrini (shouting): "Of course it was!! It'd be hard to switch a man for a table!!!" |

Barcelona management excited by superkid Zacharie Lionel Enguene
Barcelona management are convinced Samuel Eto'o has delivered them a world beater in Zacharie Lionel Enguene.
Enguene arrived at Barca on recommendation of fellow Cameroonian Eto'o and has left coaching staff gobsmacked by his ability this season.
The 12 year-old is regarded by many as the best for his age throughout Europe and in a matter of months has already enjoyed THREE age group promotions.
We keep hearing stories of these types of small kids that will all be football gods, and it's been that way ever since I started following football 100% back in 1997 or so.
Until now, ONE of those dozens or hundreds or whatever has gone on to be a pretty GOOD player professionally.
Lionel Messi
About half or so never even turned professional.
EDIT: From what I've read of a few different Barça fans at a certain famous football forum, the only thing about the kid is that he is gigantic for his age, so nobody can take the ball away from him. And we all know what happens to kids who have that advantage: they end up being pretty average, or even crap as pros.

Bojan started gettin media attention at 15 or so. Extremely different from all these 8-to-12 year olds we keep hearing about. |

Interesting study, fastest premiership players from last season:
1. Gabriel Agbonlahor - 21.1mph to the ball, 20.8mph with the ball
2. Kenwyne Jones - 21.3mph to the ball, 20.4mph with the ball
3. Cristiano Ronaldo - 20.8mph to the ball, 20.8mph with the ball
4. Wayne Rooney - 20.8mph to the ball, 20.7mph with the ball
5. Aaron Lennon - 20.9mph to the ball, 20.5mph with the ball
6. Fernando Torres - 20.7mph to the ball, 20.6mph with the ball
7. Ashley Young - 20.3mph to the ball, 20.4mph with the ball
8. Obafemi Martins - 20.5mph to the ball, 20.1mph with the ball
9. Cameron Jerome - 20.3mph to the ball, 20.1mph with the ball
10. David Bentley - 20.1mph to the ball, 20.1mph with the ball
Bosingwa is (if the portuguese national team trainer is to be believed) quite a bit faster than Ronaldo (and indeed he does seem so), so I'm interested in this year's list, if they ever make one, purely to see where he fits in.

A study by OPTA on the maximum speed reached by each premiership player at any point in last year's premiership season. Only sprints lasting more than 7 meters are counted. |

that sounds reasonably comprehensive but the minimal difference between with and without a ball makes me suspicious about the validity of the results |

I had the same thought at first, but apparently "with ball" is simply sprinting with the ball, meaning when they knock the ball far forward, run onto it, knock forward, run, knock, run, etc.
You get what I mean?
Shaun Wright-Phillips isn't in the list (he was 12th fastest I believe), but is actually faster WITH the ball. |

Yeah, that makes sense.
but this is maximum speed and only over 7 meters, so the variations it distance are tiny. It would be better if they released an average of the 20 fastest sprints. |
