Tour de Suisse Stage 3
There was a big breakaway with Botcharov in the first position. This looked like Halgand's breakaway in Dauphine a few days before
On the last climb there was a made a group with all the favourites. Contador, Kirchen, Menchov and Valverde were there
Botcharov still in front. 2 minutes advantage at the moment but he isn't the virtaul leader as he made a terrible TT and he lost 5 minutes there
Contador attacks and nobody can come after him. His now chasing the Russian
Kirchen cracked so badly that he was even caught by the pack
Botcharov finaly hanged on and got the stage win
Contador, who almost caught Botcharov in the last km is the new yellow jersey
Good day for Columbia: Kirchen 9th overall, Gerdemann 11th and Zabriskie 14th. Though there were some bad news as Burghardt came to the finish too late and he was eliminated.

Tour de Suisse Stage 4
The breakaway with Langeveld and Froome.
With Burghardt out of the race and Ciolek out-form and tired after the hilly terrain that we had today, Cavendish needs to go everything by himself
The last kilometre and Cavendish is blocked behind those 3 Milram guys
Impressive acceleration by Boonen from the other side of the road, right when Cavendish managed to get away from the Milram trap
Boonen gets it, Cavendish is second. Surely with the Columbia train there the Brit would won this...

yeah, I´m positive for maaskant, karpets, visconti or boonen for your team. nuyens won´t develop so much more I think. but I still say Boonen. then you have a great chance in the cobbles and stage wins.
if you take karpets, he´s like linus gerdemann.and I see your team more as a classic/sprint team than stageraceteam.
and I like that you followed my idea of the previous winners it´s easier to remember from year to year. |

I think that I will go for Maaskant for cobble rather than Boonen.
And for the fifth transfer it will be between Karpets, Nuyens and Fuglsgang |

Tour de Suisse Stage 5
Halgand inspired a lot of people with his breakaway in Dauphine. Again in Suisse someone wants to do like him, this time is a compatriot, Fedrigo who is the best man in the mountains from today's breakaway.
Kirchen looked good today and he attacked early on the last climb
But sudenly something happened and he was left behind by Van den Broeck
Then he got in the group of favourites, that was behind him and Van den Broeck a few moments ago, lead by Contador, Sanchez, Valverde and Menchov
He couldn't stay there either. Soon he was dropped off
He couldn't even stay with Gerdemann. The team managers decided to let Gerdemann to do his race rather than losing many time staying with Kirchen
Fedrigo wins the climb, now it's only downhill to the finishing line and I think the win is his
Contador, Gadret, Sanchez and Menchov are behind with Valverde right after them
Gerdemann looks good. He is in the second main group of the race with riders like Gesink, Piepoli, Botero, Larrson, Visconti or Arroyo. While Kirchen is far away from the race leaders, this was really a very bad day for him
Fedrigo gets the win. And somewhere in his mind he knows that this happened only because Halgand showed to the French riders that they can win
Contador is second and keeps the yellow jersey for Astana
Good day for Gerdemann but still he can't go into top 10 overall
Disaster today for Kim Kirchen. He is now 20th in the overall rankings with more than 7 minutes and a half behind Contador.

Tour de Suisse Stage 6
Piepoli went today in a solo breakaway, mainly for the KoM jersey
He starts the list climb with more than 5 minutes advantage, but he doesn't look to good after those previous five climbs.
Nobody is between him and the pack, who seems to have a little chance of catchinng Pieopoli and get the stage win
Barredo makes the first attack...
Gadret, Tiralongo and Menchov are the firsts to go after him...
And it was made a first chasing group behind Piepoli by Sanchez and Menchov
In the second group are Valverde, Kirchen, Barredo and Contador, who could lose his yellow jersey to Menchov if he isn't carefull
With 5km to go Piepoli is caught and his dream of winning the stage is over now.
Menchov knows that he need some more time gain over Contador and attacks. This time Sanchez can't go after him
While his team-mate, Robert Gesink, caught Contador's group
With Piepoli in real trouble at the moment. He is dropped off from any group that catches him.
Hearing that Menchov attacked, Contador sets up a higher pace and Kirchen&Barredo are gone from his group
But Valverde doesn't want to help him, neither Gesink whos team-mate is leading and needs to win time over Contador. And so Kirchen brough him and Barredo back in the group
Menchov gets the stage and probably the yellow jersey, we will see that when Contador arrives
Contador wins the battle for the 3rd place in the stage but he loses the one for the yellow jersey. Kirchen did a great job today and his back in top10, of course that means that Gerdemann lost a position and is now 12th.

Gerdemann and Kirchen aren't in great form so I'm just trying to get the best as I can from them in every stage, both are leaders to get as high as they can at the end.
And yes there too many mountains, that's why Kirchen and Gerdemann weren't too good, but I'm expecting a lot from the Tour de France as there are a lot of hilly, medium mountains stages perfect for Kirchen. |

Tour de Suisse Stage 7
The breakaway.
A group with 16 riders and lead by Piepoli is in front and going to fight for the stage win today
Perez Cuapio, Barredo and Kirchen were leading the group when we entered the last kilometre
With Menchov, Valverde, Sanchez and Contador not far away
Barredo is leading but Valverde is coming really fast
Valverde takes the lead...
But what an acceleration from nowhere by Contador
And he beats Valverde.

Tour de Suisse Stage 8
Pinotti was in the breakaway but today doesn't seem to be for the escapes.
Again problems for Kirchen as he is dropped off on the last climb, and no Columbia rider will finish in top 10 in Suisse this year
Menchov looked very good on the climb and so nobody could make an attack to try to get the yellow jersey away from him
But on the flat portion after the climb, Valverde took the lead
With Menchov behind him
The wind really seems to help Valverde
And this time he gets it.

Tour de Suisse Final Stage
Unusual train today with Gerdemann and Kirchen leading-out for Cavendish. But the Brit needs a lot of support as he is tired after those high mountain stages
And Kirchen does his job very well
Nobody could keep it up with us!
This is going to be between Cav and Kirchen but Mark's legs aren't in great form so Kirchen stops sprinting to let him winning
Very close finish, but the good news is that we are sure that the win is ours!
Cavendish celebrates and the foto-finsih showed that he was right, he is the winner! This 1-2 saved somehow our bad performance this year in Suisse.

after 5 high mountain stages the sprinters were pretty tired. I even had difficulties letting Cavendish win, Kirchen was way faster than him. |

USA ITT Championships
2008: David Zabriskie Garmin Chipotle
Phinney was the first rider on the road today. The young American has the potential to win this one in the future
But Danielson was the first real leader of the race
Vandevelde was close, but not enough to take the lead.
Hamilton was defenitly a real favourite for this in the past
Then Zabriskie came and destroyed them all
Hincapie wasn't great today. Probably he is affected by the news that he must find a new team for 2010
With the last dangerous riders, Julich and Cozza, finishing we now know the
name of the new champion: David Zabriskie!

German ITT Championships
2008: Bert Grabsch Team Columbia
Just like last year Grabsch was the first rider to start. Just that this time he wasn't so good.
So it wasn't to hard for Fothen to beat his time. Now it's for sure Germany will have a new champion
Gerdemann was better than Grabsch but not with much so he couldn't take the lead from Fothen
But Lang could. 1-2 at the moment for Gerolsteiner
Martin is our best rider today, still he can't beat those 2 riders from Gerolsteiner
