The curse of the data sync failed message keeps getting me on Strava. Any other Android users having problems? All I can see of my rides where I had that problem on the app is distance, speed and profile. Annoying, as I wanted my segment times.
Your rides from the last 2 days show up fine on Strava.
I use the Android app aswell. When doing the initial sync I have to leave it for a bit - it usually comes up with data sync failed before finally uploading. Sometimes the app will crash before it has synced, but it remembers the ride and syncs it when i re-open the app
No idea, whereabouts?
Ah I see the Strava trend is expanding to these parts too I've used for about a year starting with using my phone, but now Garmin, which I'm sure you find much more accurate and the Garmin Edge 500 is very affordable
There's a PCM.daily Strava group too, incase you werent aware!

Send it off for warranty?! Unless you crashed they might replace it. Take it into where you bought your bike/groupset from. Unless of course you got it online somewhere, in which case, shame on you. |

Sadly got it from Halfords who are worse than useless (especially since it's not under warranty; although it is a known fault) so I rang up Sram pretending to be Halfords and they said they'd see what they can do... |

Yeah, it's not up to Halfords to make a decision as to whether something is or isn't under warranty. That's up to the manufactorer. I should know as I'm the warranty guru for my shop. |

The Getaway update.
I've eventually reached the 1 000 km mark. I' not sure whether I'm now supposed to keep putting km in until late Augst, or if the goal was simply to reach the 1 000 km mark.
I've ordered a Garmin 510 with a cadence sensor and a heart rate watch. I'll buy a Powertap later this year (it's a bit expensive, so let's save money first), and it's compatible with the Garmin, so I'm really looking forward to start using them next week or so. It should provide some interesting figures for analyzes and serious training. |

Anyone here use a windows 8 phone to record their rides? Am thinking that the best option for me will be using theEndomondo Sports Tracker app then taking the file to import to Strava but any insight appreciated.
Also, while I think of it, if anyone knows a decent professional cycling news/video app for a windows phone then let me know too, cheers. |

That's what I do and never had any problems at all. I think that without pro membership on Strava you can't export your rides so that's the only way to have the same ride on both endomondo and strava unless you want two apps recording your ride at once but that will eat your battery pretty much.

I understand that, it'd just that Halfords weren't willing to help at all... |

Does anyone know how I can export rides from my Garmin 510 (or garmin connect) to Strava? Or do I need Strava Premium?
If I can figure that out I may have to join your Strava group |

Connect your device, click on "upload an activity", then it'll search your computer for installed devices, select the right one and the right ride, and voilĂ .
edit : the last half-dozen of emails I've received this week were all for lost KOM on Strava
Oh well, only two of the six (?) I've lost were actual efforts, the others were just merely passing there during a long ride without doing anything special.

Totally different now, but as mentioned previously, I've been trying to draw my profile of record powers, using Strava data (but it seems rather coherent with other online tools for measurements - I don't have a powermeter yet), and I think I have gathered enough material now to draw some conclusions.
I already explained the different zones of power, most of this is coming from Fred Grappe's work.
As it was expected my power curve decreases like a logarithm (see the attached picture).
My infinite power (power I could virtually sustain forever) is 115 W, whereas my maximal power output (in aerobic efforts) is about 365 Watts. That's the value I should be able to sustain for five minutes.
So, my infinite power is about 32 % of my MPO, which is coherent, given Grappe thinks it should be around 35 %.
Any work below that power can be considered useless, whatever distance I'd be preparing for.
In my case :
- I1 (basic endurance - 35 to 50 % of MPO) becomes 115-180 W.
- I2 (endurance - 50 to 65 %) should be 180-240 W (most of my rides averages are in that range)
- I3 (tempo - 65 to 75) : 240 to 275 Watts. Interesting figure to determine the speed I should ride at on certain slopes for a given exercise.
- I4 (threshold - 85 to 80 %). 275-295 Watts. TT stuff if it's more than 20 minutes long (but less than one hour).
- I5 (maximal aerobic power output) - 295 to 365. For efforts shorter than 20 minutes. What I use to mean business in climbs.
- I6 and I7 can't really be determined through Strava, that's for lactic and sprint efforts anyway.
Apparently that'd still be enough for a third category or a low second category rider (there are three categories, then lower categories).
Now, given my weight and my MPO I can calculate my VO2max, which is less flattering
V02max = (MPO x 0,01141 + 0,435) / weight (kg).
In my case the figure is around 62 or 63 ml/min/kg. Not quite enough to win a TDF it seems, and hardly worth an average 3rd category rider.
In other words, if I started racing again, I'd feel relatively comfortable on the flat but I'd struggle when I'd need to climb. I've heard that story before. Difference is I can't sprint for shit nowadays...
Conclusion : don't ever sign a licence again.
Yes, I get bored (and selfish) sometimes, I still hoped it interested some of you.

I like a good graph. Interesting to see the figures, better than a younger cyclist ie me so not all hope is lost
Next week I'm aiming at 18 hours per week. Watch as I do 6 or 7. I want my KoM back as well. |

Thanks for that. I'd be happy if my battery lasts a 2-3 hour ride just using Endomondo - fingers crossed when I get a chance to test it... |
