Daryl Impey has managed to sign with Team MTN after the whole Pegasus debacle.

Huge step down. He is a solid Pro Conti/World Tour Domestique/Lead-out man. |

And finally, but not surprisingly: Stybar signs with QuickStep starting from the 1st of March. |

I wonder if he'll switch to road cycling completely. It would be bad for cyclo-cross. |

He stressed that this move didn't mean that he'd leave cyclo-cross |

So, his plan is to continue to train for the short intense efforts of cyclo-cross, while at the same time training for the marathon slow-burn efforts of the pavé classics?
Wow, that can't possibly fail. And by that I mean of course he'll fail. He clearly has no clue what he's up against. Also, his argument that they can be successfully combined because "road riders used to use cyclo-cross as a warmup" is wrong on so many levels.
1. They used it as a warmup, it wasn't their goal to win it;
2. It was decades ago, when riders were far less specialized;
3. Yes, so many did that. Even the best of the best like Bernard Hinault did it........remind me again how many of them won or even got good results at both? Right...

I don't know in your country, or even generally, but around here many local pros take part in local cyclo-cross all season long (they don't race one each week, but half a dozen during the winter season is a common thing).
I subscribe to your other arguments, although, even though I lack datas, I doubt RVV or Paris-Roubaix are that much of slow burning efforts (yes, they're long and all, but it's not like Paris-Brest-Paris, or Bordeaux-Paris or stuff like that, it's quite intensive past the first hour, even for pros). |

Franzoi and Boom's experiences relate well to this. At their first attempts (Boom has had only one so far) they were doing fine....and later in the race they completely disappeared from the map. From up-there to gooooone.
Simply they've trained for years for these small distances.
You know what cyclo-crossers usually excel at on the road? Flat stages with a single climb. Mountain even.

Gobernación de Antioquia-Indeportes Antioquia has signed Quique Gutiérrez. Yes, that one. Also, Sevilla.

So, pretty much as expected: Gazetta dello Sport says that Riis is interested in signing Menchov as Contador's replacement. |

Would be pretty interesting... I would've loved Bjarne to work with Karpets though, as I think he could make him a serious GC contender again...
Menchov will probably be 2nd in the Tour if he goes to Saxo, with Navarro and Chris bumping for top 10 Vuelta, and Porte top 10 giro... Would make a huuuuge difference to get a rider like Menchov on the team.

Let's see how much money Riis has...
Cancellara's huge salary off the books? Check
Severance pay from Leopard for Cancellara? Check
Contador's salary off the books for 2011? Possibly
I'd say he likely has more money than he can shake a stick at.
Getting Gianetti to fold and Menchov to be interested, shouldn't be easy at all.

But how much less than last year is the sponsor income ? It might be bigger than everything you mentioned... |

Doesn't matter. Riis did the math with Cancellara on the team, then barely signed anyone after Fabian left, so most of the money will be free.

Why is nobody reacting to the most important news of all season?
